Who’s Boss-Magma
I peak at Igneous through the part I made in my hair. He stands there with one of his arms braced on the door and one on the frame. I find myself momentarily distracted when he still wears nothing to cover the top half of his body. I shake away the distraction fast even though his heavy breathing causes my beast to try harder to break the maze I have put her in.
Trying not to show that I care that he barged into my room, I roll over and threw the cover on me. Once more I find myself enclosed in darkness where I want to be. Here I am completely alone just as I feel out in the world. It matches my mood perfectly. I hold my breath under the blanket when I hear his footsteps come closer. I make myself breath knowing that he stands over me.
He should just walk away. I wish he would see that I am no good for him. My wayward body betrays me as I shiver. I close my eyes willing him to leave when suddenly his arms scoop me up. I fight to find something to hold onto know that I am going to fall. The blanket tightens around me, and I feel myself rising up. The air leaves my lungs as I land with am oomph. When I wiggle I realize that he has thrown me over his shoulder.
I growl at being manhandled and begin to wiggle in earnest against his shoulder. “Put me down” I scream as we start to move.
I feel a slap against my ass that has me freezes. “Calm yourself woman. I have things that I need to say, and you are going to hear me out.
“I don’t have to listen to you. I ended things remember. Why won’t you just go like I asked” I bellow. As I scream the air changes and I know that we have gone outside. Inside I am fuming. He can’t just treat me this way. I kick my feet freely because he has my arms trapped on his shoulder where he holds me. I curse at the situation feeling embarrassed.
I sag against him after a few moments trying to catch my breath from the struggle. He continues to walk along as I bounce on his shoulder. I let my anger build ready to lash out at him as soon as he puts me down.
“What are doing human” I hear Maximus ask.
“Thank god, would you tell him to put me down” I ask raising my head up and looking in his direction even though I know he can’t see my face.
“Not going to happen. And for your information I’m handling my woman. Now if you’ll excuse we have somewhere to be” he says as he begins walking again.
I hear Maximus chuckle as I walk by and get even angry. “You have no right to betray me like this. Your supposed to stick with your own kind you coward.” I hear him laugh harder as I berate him. When Igneous’ shoulder starts to shake beneath me, my vision turns red. “And as for you, I am not your woman. I don’t belong to you.”
He slaps me on the butt again and I growl viciously. I look in on my dragon and see that she sits in the middle of her maze swishing her tail like this is some kind of game. I sag back against him when I realize that she won’t be any help either. I scream loud and strong at the fact that I feel so helpless. I scream until my voice is hoarse and a part of me hopes that I really hurt his ears.
“Are you done having your little tantrum” he ask. I start to wiggle once more when I hear the amusement in his voice.
“Go ahead and let me down so I can show you a real tantrum” I growl at him.
“Now Magma, I know you have better manners than that. All you have to do is listen to what I have to say, and you can decide where we go from there.” He says this so calmly I cock my head in his direction. I notice that the movement is easy, and I no longer bounce. Curiosity threatens to intrude on my anger as I wonder where he has taken me. “Now that I have you calm, I want you to agree to behave before I put you down” He threatens.
“To behave! I am not some insolent child that you get to control. I am a grown woman, and you have no right to tell me what to do.” I bellow.
“uh, huh. You notice my breathing Magma. It’s not even strained. I could simply take a seat while you stay trapped on my shoulders and barely get tired.” He pauses for affect as he feels me still as I listen. “You forget sweetheart. I am not only a man, but a smoke jumper too. Im used to carrying weight for a long time as well as waiting something out. I have nothing but time while you hang in there” he ends with a chuckle.
As I bite my tongue on my rising anger my dragon swishes her tail and makes her scales shimmer. She’s playing along with whatever this is going on.
Suddenly I feel defeated as I completely relax. Apart of me knows that he won’t be able to keep this up forever. However, I recall that even human smoke jumpers take on seventy-two hour shifts while they wait out a fire carrying those sacks. Even the ones I hefted to test seemed pretty heavy for a human to carry for that long.
“Fine, I will hear what you have to say. After that I get to leave, and you can’t stop me” I say caving under the pressure.
“Well, Alrighty then” My weight shifts and I am lifted off his shoulder. I feel my feet hit the ground as the blood rushes from my head rushing back to where it came from. I feel his arms steady me and I jerk away from the movement. I quickly maneuver the blanket to release my head but still hold in my nakedness. When I see his face come into view he is pressing his lips together to keep from laughing.
I quicky turn away from his face before I slap him and move to exit the clearing. He sidesteps in front of me and crosses his arms over his bare chest and plants his feet wide to block my exit.
“You know I could just shift and fly away, right” I spit out
“One, I won’t be letting you get far enough away from me to shift. Two, you wouldn’t risk harming me by shifting too close to me” he says holding up his fingers to emphasize his point. “Three, you said you would behave and listen to what I have to say.”
“Ooops, I lied. Now move out of my way” I say as I begin to walk around him.
His stance cools and he lets me get right beside him as I move to pass him. “Okay, we can play this way. If I can’t talk to you then I would like to talk to your dragon instead.”
I groan aloud at his words as my dragon fiercely beats against the top of her maze now. I lift my hands to grab my head as she starts to give me a headache. “Fine, all right, all right” I say to her.
When she calms I whirl around to him and walk past him to sit on the rock. “let’s get this conversation over and done with” I suggest as I stare off into the distance of the trees.
He sighs at my words, and I hear as his footsteps approach. What he has to say better be good because so far he isn’t gaining any brownie points.
