Chapter 16
Sewa erupted in a fit of laughter as she held onto her stomach. The look on Lanre's face sent warmth in her stomach.
"I told you to play some more, didn't I?" She said in-between laughs.
"Didn't you play when you were younger?, Or all you did was read and top your class like a boring nerd!" She exclaimed.
"I just let you off, didn't want to see you cry," Lanre replied.
"Really?" She asked in-between laughs. She was laughing to the extent she couldn't stop laughing. Somehow, she loved how he forgot what to say in the process and how he bumped his fist together.
"You don't even know any tv series nor movies! How can you give up after mentioning two films?!" She asked.
"How are we dating again? Because I definitely can't be dating a boring man like you," she spat out intentionally to provoke Lanre who didn't seem to care that much.
"That's life, you win and you lose. But Seriously you don't expect me to keep track of movie names, do you? I don't even have time for myself most times," He lamented.
Sewa rubbed her eyes with her palm as she took in a deep breath. "Fine, let's do an easy one. Game of concentration, game of concentration, mention the countries that you know," She stated but Lanre cut her off.
"Nah! You are always starting, why don't I start this time around?" He suggested but Lanre refused it.
"Come on! You got to choose everything, let me start too," He tried reasoning with her.
"It's ladies first! Not men first and besides what do you even have to say? Don't make the game boring Ola and just let me start!" She deadpanned.
Lanre heaved a sigh, was there a winning against women?, Or was there a winning against the woman you love? There definitely was never a winning.
"Whatever, you can start but..." Sewa trailed off, creaking her fingers. "If you by chance ruin this game, I promise to break up with you!" She blurted her before realising.
Lanre shook his head, "Break up? So quick?" He chuckled. "I won't make it boring, you don't have to take this game to a serious level," Lanre lamented and Sewa frowned.
"Who is the Oracle here?" She asked him.
"You," he replied.
"Who is the girlfriend here?" She asked him.
"You," he replied again, clearly confused as to why she was asking him all of this question.
"Who is supposed to listen to who is mostly in a relationship?" She asked, folding her arms across her chest with a scowl on her face.
"Is that even a..."She shunned him.
"Answer it!" She demanded taking Lanre by shock by her voice.
"Relax, you are getting so worked up," he said and Sewa eyes got welled up in tears.
Lanre's eyes widened in shock, wondering why she was suddenly so emotional. Her mood swing must be a sickness, he thought.
"I'm so sorry, did I say something?" He asked her with confusion laced in his tone as he pulled her closer to him to wrap his arms around her and console her.
The loud voice of Sewa's laughter confused Lanre. Why was she laughing at him? He asked himself.
"You should have seen your face Ola!" She laughed out loud.
"Women!" Lanre muttered.
"You said what?" She asked him.
"Nothing," he replied. "So let's get the game started. Game of concentration, game of concentration, mention the part of the body that you know," Lanre stated.
"Vagina," he began. His words had taken sewa by shock as he made sure to drag the word VA-GI-NA intentionally. But she didn't let that distract her from slowing down.
"Eyes," she countered back.
"Pussy," he added, making Sewa's eyes widen.
"What are you saying?!" She exclaimed.
"What's the difference between vagina and pussy?! They are the same," she challenged, making Lanre laugh.
"They are spelt differently and besides I didn't repeat the same words. There are no rules that state that I can't say something in two different languages although they are both English languages," He lamented.
Sewa frowned, "You are doing this intentionally, aren't you?" She asked him. "Don't worry, I will definitely win you," she added immediately.
"But I won the round right?" He asked.
"No you didn't!" She shouted.
"Calm down woman, you are starting to scare me," he said.
"Hmph! Whatever, game of..." Lanre cuts her off. There was no way she'd get to start always.
"I'm starting, remember?" He said to her. "Game of concentration, game of concentration, mention the part of the body that you know and..." He trailed off taking note of her facial expression, he loved how pissed she was getting, she looked cute, he thought.
"How you say it doesn't mean, even if they have the same meaning it doesn't mean. Vagina," he stated.
"Legs," Sewa retorted.
"Pussy," he said. As quick as sewa could think, she knew he was trying to get her distracted and win.
"Eyes," she replied fast.
"Toto!" He said firmly.
Sewa frowned, he was doing all of this intentionally, didn't he know other part of the body?!
"Hands," Sewa said.
"Dick," Lanre said.
"Tongue," Sewa said.
"Penis," Lanre said.
He was intentionally calling those parts of the body to get her pissed off. He was sure he'd win this round and make sure to laugh her back.
Just as she was about to reply, the sound of the bell interrupted their moment.
"I will check who that is," Lanre said to her, walking towards his door. Once he opened the door, he saw his friend Damola.
Damola looked different in the sense that he had a sad expression on his face which meant something was bothering him. Lanre wondered what could be wrong with his friend.
"Damola?" He called his name to get his attention. Damola is married, he got married last year.
"Can I come in?" Damola requested. Lanre left the door path to let Damola in.
Sewa eyes met with a friend of Damola she has never seen before. He was bothered and she wondered why.
"Good afternoon," Sewa greeted once he was seated on the couch. He lifted his face to take a look at her.
"Sewa right?" He asked. Sewa nodded her head confirming his statement.
"Good afternoon," he greeted.
"Sewa this is Damola, a friend of mine and Damola, you know her right?" Lanre introduced.
Sewa sensed they wanted to have a serious conversation, so she decided to excuse herself and give them privacy.
"I will leave you both," She muttered walking away from their premises. Once she got into her room, she fell down flat on her bed. Picking up her phone that was there, she switched it on.
Her eyes widened in fear as she saw the message she received. The rate at which her heart beat was so loud that she heard sounds in her head.
She knew there was no escaping to whatever she had signed up for and no matter how much she tried to, she'd be risking her life.
You can't eat your cake and have it!
Was the message she received, she knew the message sent was a code. It had more meaning than what was sent.
No one knew she was in Lagos except for Denny, Charity and Priscilla. One of them must have exposed her and she was very sure it was Priscilla.
She contemplated if she should call Denny and ask but that would be jeopardising the situation she was already in. Her mind was set up and she knew just what to do.
After laying down on her bed for some minutes, she walked back to the living room to join Lanre and his friend. Luckily for her the mood wasn't like before and they seem to be chatting well.
"See the glow on your face now that you are on speaking terms with her, I know your weakness now," Damola mocked Lanre who chuckled at Damola's statement.
"Those weeks were crazy weeks for me to be honest but I'm not letting go anymore," Lanre said.
Sewa knew they were talking about her and she wondered what Lanre went through those three weeks they weren't speaking to one another.
"My friend is seriously in love," Damola muttered.
She cleared her throat getting their attention. She wasn't going to let the message she read earlier affect her. "He isn't!" Sewa deadpanned with a serious expression on her face.
Both men turned to look at Sewa whose presence wasn't known to them until now. "What?!" Lanre asked.
"Lanre doesn't love me as he claimed," Sewa repeated with a frown on her face. She took a seat on the couch and crossed her leg over the other.
Damola chuckled, "And why do you say so?" He asked him.
"He didn't speak to me for three weeks and is fine with it! That's not love," She muttered.
She wanted to see Lanre's reaction, teasing him was something she really loved doing. The look on Lanre's face wanted to make her laugh but she wasn't done yet.
"Hmm...And your definition of love is?" Damola asked her.
"Ask Lanre what he did to me last night?" Sewa retorted. Lanre recalled last night and how he had not helped her when she burnt her finger and how he didn't let her finish her food. She must not have forgotten that easily, he thought.
Damola looked at Lanre expecting an explanation from him, Lanre lips twisted into a lopsided grin. Sewa smirked, she wasn't one to forget easily even if she was over it.
"I guess I'd have to leave now. I don't meddle in couples affairs, goodbye for now," Damola stated getting up on his feet.
"Okay," Lanre replied, doing the bro shake him Damola. "How about drinks next week ehn in that bar?" Damola asked.
"For sure," Lanre replied, escorting Damola out of his house.
Lanre moved towards Sewa, wrapping his arms around her waist tightly, "I'm sorry about last night, but to be honest that pot handle wasn't hot," He muttered.
"Really? You are apologising yet defending yourself? You are not really sorry, not at all," She lamented.
"I'm really sorry, and besides you didn't let me finish my food," He retorted.
"You shunned me that's why!" She spat out.
Lanre wondered why he was arguing with her knowing well he wouldn't win. "I am wrong and you are right, you are always right, so please let's get over this," he begged.
"Bribe me!" Sewa demanded.
"With what?" He asked her.
Sewa smirked, "let's go out this evening, it's been long we went out on a date," She whispered.
"That's true. Okay then, get prepared, we are going out tonight," Lanre replied.
