Chapter 49 She Can't Walk Way

"I think you'd better not know."

Veronica is not happy when she said, "Are you scaremongering?"

"If you don't believe it, you can go ask Nick yourself."

Veronica angrily said, "How could I ask him?"

The last Veronica tried to ask about it, her neck was almost bitten off.

It's not like she's getting impatient.

Toby then said, " So you can only trust me. You must leave the KING Group before Nick finds out."

She replied, "Why should I listen to you? It's none of your business!" With that, Veronica hung up the phone.

She then thought she might as well change her cell phone number.

For a man who betrayed her for another woman, he probably must have no shortage of women that he kept bothering her to do something.

However, Veronica's mind was preoccupied with what Toby had said. She was afraid that in the end, this could turn out into something even more serious. After all, with what the KING Group was known for, Toby was saying the same thing.

Although he didn't say exactly what it was, it left the same amount of panic in her chest.

'What bad things did Chloe, my mother had with the Cage family to sever the relationship between Nick Cage and his family?'

'If that's the case, what's with Chloe and the happiness she was pursuing?'

Veronica felt the pain in her chest as she got out of the taxi and paid.

She hadn't been in a taxi for years.

After paying, she got out of the car and looked up. The lights in the house were turned on, and one of them belonged to her.

She thought, 'Should I leave the KING Group?'

The next day in Kay's office...

Kay was surprised as she asked, "You're going to resign?"

"Yes," Veronica said firmly.

Kay explained, "I thought you already knew what your situation was. You are here, which means Mr. Cage wanted you to be here. Of course, that's what I meant. You work hard and carefully, and your colleagues will love you. So, it's a little awkward." Kay said jokingly said, "If I let you leave without his permission, I'll be in trouble. You're not going to be so heartless, are you?"

"You're exaggerating, aren't you?"

"It's no exaggeration. You still don't know much about Mr. Cage."

"What if I don't want my salary and just leave? What do you think will Mr. Cage do?"

"I'm afraid you will get caught by Mr. Cage even before you can leave Illinois."

Veronica was speechless as she thought, 'Caught? Must the word 'caught' be used? I'm not a fugitive!'

When Veronica returned to the secretarial department, she was very negative about her predicament.

'I can't stay and be afraid. And yet, I can't just walk away even if I want to.'

'What should I do now?'

The phone on the desk rang. It was Kay. She said, "Make two cups of coffee and go to Mr. Cage's office."

"Two?"

"Yes."

She hung up and thought, 'Who else was there in his office? It must be someone not from a high position level, otherwise, he would have requested a cup of tea.

She stood and went to the pantry to prepare the coffee.

She knew resistance was futile.

The staff next to her pushed the door open for her and Veronica went inside with a tray of coffee.

There were two cups of coffee on the tray.

Upon entering, she saw Nick's long legs. He was sitting on the sofa. When he was in that demeanor, people were usually afraid.

But Veronica shook her hand when she saw who Nick was with. The tray she was holding almost fell off.

Toby looked at her calmly as if nothing had happened between them.

Veronica's heart was pounding.

'Why was Toby here? What is he doing here? Would he talk about her relationship with Chloe Bowen?'

When Nick's sharp black eyes looked at her, Veronica immediately came to her senses, steadied herself, and bring the coffee to the table.

The first cup was placed next to Nick's arm. He was wearing a valuable watch on his wrist as if it had its own poise and charm.
