Chapter 50 Give Her To Me
Chapter 50 Give Her To Me
For a big shot like Nick, others treated him respectfully and with fear wherever he went.
Now Toby was sitting here, without any sign of respect to him, lazily sank into the sofa, and was staring at Veronica's face.
As soon as the second cup of coffee was placed next to Toby, she heard him say, "There is a shortage of people in my company recently. This girl here is nice. Why don't you just give her to me, Nick?"
Veronica suppressed the inner tension she was feeling. She really wanted to lift his face, spill the coffee in it so he couldn't talk any nonsense here.
She was afraid to look at Nick's face, but the atmosphere in the office became depressing and it made her nervous.
Suddenly Nick asked, "Did you hear what he said?" Nick looked up and looked at her with falcon-like black eyes as if he would swallow her and tear her apart.
The air smelled of danger, that Veronica did not dare answer.
"Even if I signed a contract with the KING Group, I can't be kicked around like a ball to be passed around, can I?"
Veronica looked at Toby angrily and continued, "If you are so short of people, you might as well go to the front desk and have a look. That's where I came from before being promoted to the secretarial department."
Toby's eyes fell on Veronica's face, gave her a meaningful look, and then stood up. He said to Nick, "In that case, I'll forget about it. I have something to do, Nick. I must go."
With that, he really left the office. The door closed leaving only Nick and Veronica inside the office.
Inside the room, it felt as if there were already a lot of pressure between them.
Since Toby left, she was about to get the cup of coffee and go out.
Suddenly, Nick asked, "You're going to resign?" The sudden sound of deterrence from Nick made Veronica straighten up.
Kay had told Nick about it.
Nick opened the cigarette box next to him, bit it on his lips, lit the lighter, and snapped as if it had hit Veronica's, fragile heart.
The white smoke spread out, and Nick's oppressive expression was even deeper and harder to read. But that pair of black eyes were sharp and seemingly undiminished.
It was like he was trying to pierce through Veronica's body with it.
Nick played with the silver lighter on his hand and spun it faster. Finally, he asked, "Why can't you just follow?"
"I am just a staff of the KING Group. Why waste your time with someone like me? I resigned because I want to leave Illinois."
Nick's voice was low but strong and fierce when he said, "You can't even touch the edge of Illinois without my permission."
Veronica asked, "Why is that? I just want to leave Illinois. It wouldn't affect you, would it?"
Nick did not smoke the cigarette in his hand after two puffs. Instead, he put it on the handrail. It left a trail of smoke burning silently. His long, bony fingers, seemed casual but with a sense of beauty. A pair of black eyes locked on her in a deep and sinister way, that made her feel she had nothing to hide.
Nick's voice fell as low as a dumb voice when he said, "Come here."
But there was a kind of resounding momentum and it made Veronica's body tense in an instant.
"I... I have work to do. I'm going out first," Veronica said as she forgot about the cup of coffee and turned around to leave.
Analyzing their position in the room, the only way for her to get to the door was to walk behind the sofa where Nick was sitting.
Veronica thought that as long as Nick wouldn't stand, he couldn't stop her.
However, as soon as she was behind Nick, his arm was suddenly tightened around her. The fear made Veronica numb with fear and it reached her scalp.
