Chapter 22
“Leah… It’s so cold…”
I was awakened by Dominik's groaning voice. Slightly lazy, I opened my eyes and saw Dominik, who was currently shivering with cold. He still closed his eyes while his hands gripped the blanket peeled for him, trying to cover his entire body with it.
When I saw Dominik like that, I quickly got up from my bed and checked his forehead, comparing it with mine.
"Seems like he has a fever." I muttered, while my eyes were still on his face, which seemed to try to endure the pain in his body.
"Hmm ... It hurts ..." he groaned, pulling my hand towards him and hugging me as if I were an extra blanket. I let him do it while my hand took his smartphone and turned off the song he had been playing all night. Then I put it back on the nightstand and stroked his hair slowly.
"Which part hurts, Dominik?"
"Everything ... hurts ..." he replied in a low voice.
I carefully let go of his embrace from me. But he realized my movement that wanted to release his embrace and tighten his hug even more.
"Dominik?" I asked, trying to get his embrace away from me.
"Don't go anywhere. What if you leave me alone?" he asked, opening his eyes.
I stroked his head and kissed his forehead. "Calm down, I'm not going anywhere."
"Xiao'en said that too, but the next day, she left Tianxing alone at his house." he replied, burying his face in mine.
"You really watched too many dramas. I just want to take a thermometer and a basin to reduce your fever."
He lifted his head, looking relieved by my answer earlier. "Oh ... Thermometer huh? It is in the bathroom."
"Thanks." I said, kissing his lips briefly, then getting out of bed and walking toward the bathroom. My hand looked for the thermometer, which turned out to be on the shelf under the bathroom sink along with the towel he had also kept there. Then I walked towards the kitchen, looking for something that could be used to hold water to compress his body, and finally, I found a medium-sized pot and boiled hot water. Once the water was cooked, I added cold water to keep it from getting too hot and brought it to his room.
He was still lying on his bed, closing his eyes to endure the pain in his body. I put the smartphone in the nightstand drawer and put the pot of warm water and the towel on the nightstand. Then I took the thermometer and put it in his mouth.
39 °C. It’s pretty high, I thought, clutching his burning forehead. I put the thermometer next to his pillow and took the towel that was in the pan and squeezed it so that it wasn't so wet, then took off the blanket.
"Don't open it. It is really cold." he whined, opening his eyes.
I rolled my eyes to see him whining so that I did not open the blanket he was wearing. "If I do not open it, I won't be able to compress your body. When it's finished, I'll put it on again."
He looked relieved when he heard my answer earlier. "Oh. Okay ... Please do it slowly, okay?" he asked.
I said yes to his request, opened his blanket, and washed his body carefully like his request earlier. His face seemed to be trying to endure the pain, even though I had done it carefully. While looking at him with an anxious face, I turned the towel back into the pot and dipped it in warm water, then I squeezed it out and again compressed his body until the water in the pot was no longer warm as before. When finished, I put the blanket back on and kissed his forehead. It seemed that he was already asleep because he did not respond when I took the pot and stepped my feet out of his room.
I threw the contents of the pot into the sink and washed it, then put it back in place, while I carried the towel along with the dirty clothes in the basket for dirty clothes and washed them in the washing machine in the bathroom. While waiting for the laundry to finish, I plan to cook the chicken porridge that I always cook whenever I have a cold or flu. Unfortunately, as he said yesterday, there is nothing in the kitchen apart from cup noodles with various flavors.
I clicked my tongue, annoyed that my dog was really "paying attention" to his health. I was forced to return to his room and take my bag. Before I left his room, I looked at Dominik, who was still groaning in guilt, then I closed the door and left his apartment.
Arriving at the supermarket near his apartment, I bought the ingredients I needed to make chicken porridge and fever-reducing medicine to reduce his fever. Just in case he catches a cold, I also bought cold medicine and vitamins. Then I walked over to the cashier and paid for the items. After that, I returned to his apartment.
While I was waiting in front of the elevator door, the old man and the old lady who we met yesterday came to me with happy faces.
"So how was that? Did you like the view last night?" asked the old lady, looking so excited when she asked me that.
"I really loved it! I did not know there was such a beautiful place near here until yesterday."
The old lady looked so relieved to hear my answer earlier. While the old man nodded his head at my answer earlier. "Fortunately, I knew there was a place like that here. Just so you know, he even asked all the residents of the apartment where he could see the stars and the moon clearly. Nobody knew of a place like that until I overheard his conversation with some people in the lobby and I told him right away." said the old man, looking proud of what he had done.
I was stunned to hear the old man’s words. He had to figure out a place where there was a clear view of the moon and stars just to make me feel good. I feel even more guilty about my dog, who is now sick because of me.
"Thank you for the help." I said, bending my body towards them. "If it weren't for the two of you, we probably would not have known a place as beautiful as that existed."
The two of them looked at each other while laughing. "It is okay. We are both happy to know that he finally have a girlfriend as beautiful as you. No wonder he's desperately looking for a place like that." said the old man with a smile at me.
The old lady added the old man’s words. "We already think of him like our own grandchildren. Seeing him who still doesn't have a partner at his age make us feel worried. But it seems we don't have to worry about him anymore. Please take care of him, okay?" said the old lady, before they both left me who was still waiting for the elevator door to open.
I bent my body and waved my hand while smiling at the two of them, who had now disappeared from my face. As soon as the elevator door opened, I quickly got into it and pressed the elevator button to the floor of his apartment. Arriving at the floor where I was headed, I immediately ran to his apartment and entered it.
"Shit. He's really cool." I said, wiping my tears which now fell down my cheeks. "How could I know that he went to such an extent just to make me feel happy?"
