My Sunshine
Kimberly ate her dinner in silence. Her mind wandered. She had too many things on her mind. That was the second day Nicholas had left her overseas. But the man never once took the initiative to contact her. Was Nicholas mad at her? It wouldn't be funny if she had to contact him first.
Am I not the victim here?
I was the one who let you down, Nick. Now I'm the one who was silenced?
CK! Damn it.
Kimberly rolled her eyes, looking at herself, trying to find flaws in her. "Am I not pretty enough that Nicholas thinks I'm not his type?"
Kimberly took a deep breath. Keep holding her cheeks.
"Gosh, what else had to be perfect for Nicholas to accept me?"
Kimberly grimaced, not yet finished thinking about Nicholas. Another matter crossed her mind. And now, he thought about the diagnosis of the disease that the doctor had given her yesterday. To recover, she needed a lot of money to perform surgery. And right now, there are only two choices. Go back home and ask Arthur for help or tell Nicholas everything. Because only those two people can help her, she must make a decision quickly, and even the doctor has given the warning to take immediate action. Of course, the cancer cells in the body do not spread to other vital organs.
Kimberly took a deep breath. Her eyes closed. She was trying to shake off the creeping fear. All the bad images even swirled in her brain.
"I have surgery. Yes, I need surgery immediately."
Kimberly reassured herself, steeling her resolve. But it didn't last long. The doctor's words yesterday about all the risks and side effects echoed in her head again. I run the risk of not having children. So, which man wants a woman who can't give birth. If Nicholas finds out, she may be further away from me. Kimberly's appetite was even gone. She struggled to force her throat to swallow the food she had just shoved into her mouth. When she tried to chew, the doorbell rang out. She immediately stood up and directed her feet to open the door quickly.
"Good evening, madam. I'm from the reception tower, and I'd like to deliver flowers from Clara Florist."
"Flowers?" Kimberly asked, confused. "Of whom?" she continued curiously. The receptionist tried to check again, turning the bucket of flowers she was holding. But it looks like she didn't get what he was looking for.
"No sender's name, just a greeting card."
Kimberly's forehead furrowed deeply, but her hand was still stretched out to accept the flower's hand from the woman in front of her. While smiling, Kimberly said politely. "Thank you very much."
The receptionist then said goodbye and left Kimberly, still filled with confusion and curiosity. She checked the greeting card that was still attached to the ribbon wrapped around the flower she was holding. "You are My Sunshine." Kimberly flipped through the greeting card she was holding. But that's all that's printed on the card. There is no sender's name or other words to clarify her meaning.
Kimberly shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, lazy to take a headache for a moment, then she put the flower she was holding into the vase until not long after her cell phone rang. She reached for the flat object lying on the dining table, and there was a little sense of pleasure when he found Nicholas' name appearing on the screen. Asked to be picked up immediately.
"Hello..." Kimberly started the conversation. However, only silence and sighs could be heard other side instead of an answer. She waited long enough for her patience to run out. "Nick, are you mute? I'll hang up on you if there's nothing to talk about." Kimberly was not kidding, and she kept the phone screen away from her ear to press the reject button, turning off the call from Nicholas.
"Wait!" the man finally spoke. "Gosh, are you so emotional?"
"Me? Emotional, you say?" Kimberly squeaked in annoyance. "You should know why I behaving like this. Besides, if there's nothing important, end this call." Kimberly missed the man's voice on the other end, but prestige overcame her now.
Moreover, the man did not apologize immediately after what happened a few days ago. Was Nicholas never taught how to apologize to a woman?
"Kimmy, why should I end the call so quickly? I still miss you. That's why I chose silence, enjoying your voice from a distance."
Kimberly's face was bright red. Nicholas' words were capable of evoking a strange tingle within him. For a moment, she felt lulled until not long after that consciousness returned. Don't get carried away by Kimberly. You have to sell hard. Besides, you know for yourself that Nicholas is an unstable man.
Kimberly took a deep breath. She was trying to keep herself from falling for Nicholas's seductions. "I'm sorry, Nick, I'm not interested in your sweet words. Don't talk too much."
Nicholas chuckled at the call. "I'm not flirting with you, Kimberly. I mean it. Maybe you're still mad at me. Okay, I'm sorry for everything I did to hurt your feelings. Will you forgive me?" beg the man seriously.
"Hmmm..." Kimberly didn't answer, choosing to clear her throat loudly. She had forgiven him since yesterday. Again, she was just too proud to admit it since yesterday Nicholas had not once contacted her. It makes Kimberly even more annoyed.
While Nicholas understood Kimberly's response, he spoke again. "Oh yeah, have you received a flower delivery from me?"
Kimberly nodded in understanding. The person who sent her flowers a moment ago was Nicholas. "So you sent the anonymous flowers, then?"
"Of course, who else is it?" asked Nicholas.
"Who knows, Mr. Edward sent me flowers," Kimberly joked. She deliberately mentioned the man's name to hear what reaction Nicholas would give.
"Ck! Impossible. I've asked the apartment to blacklist Edward from there. Let alone a gift. He couldn't even step foot into the apartment."Nicholas spoke confidently.
"Gosh, Nicholas!" Kimberly uttered a half-screech. "How could you do that to Mr. Edward. You're too much."
The intention was to see Nicholas' reaction, and even Kimberly was surprised by the man's overprotective attitude. Kimberly couldn't understand what Edward had done wrong that Nicholas always considered him an eternal rival.
"Kimberly Aurora ..." Nicholas called brought Kimberly's consciousness back to where she had been previously.
"Huh, what?" Kimberly replied in a surprised tone.
"How was your examination this afternoon?" Nicholas probed. Of course, he needed to make sure Kimberly was. He didn't want anything bad to happen again. Kimberly gulped, steeling herself, she answered.
"There's nothing to worry about; The results are pretty good." Kimberly chose to hide her situation from Nicholas. She thought she needed the right time to tell the man. Maybe she will also tell the background that he had been hiding. But not now. Someday, Kimberly promised in her heart.
"Right, like that?" again Nicholas confirmed.
"I mean it, Nick." Kimberly tried to convince.
Nicholas breathed a sigh of relief. "That's fine then. Now you can rest. I have to get back to finishing my work."
"Okay ..." Kimberly answered shortly. "Oh yeah, Nick," Kimberly said suddenly before ending the call.
"What else?" Nicholas asked, confused.
Kimberly was silent for a long time, but her voice was heard again not long after. "I miss you, Nick. Want to meet you soon."
Nicholas didn't flinch. Not the slightest reply to Miss Kimberly's words. He even impressed mediocre.
Did he not open his heart yet?
"You don't miss me?" Kimberly asked when she found Nicholas did not react. Nicholas just laughed softly, then replied, "It's late. You should get some rest. See you the day after tomorrow." The call just ended, causing Kimberly to curse loudly in her position.
"Oh, Lord. What else do I have to make that man love me!"
***
Kimberly glanced at the clock on the nightstand. It was already ten in the morning. Then she got ready to take a shower. When he was about to step into the bathroom, the doorbell rang more than twice. Without thinking, the woman walk to the door and immediately opened it.
"Sorry to bother you this morning, madam. I want to deliver another flower from florist to you."
The receptionist, who delivered flowers last night, is now back standing at the door of Nicholas' apartment unit. Kimberly reached for the offered flower bucket without saying much and thanked her.
"My goodness, Nicholas. Why did he send me this many flowers? Does he want to make a flower garden here?"
"After all, instead of giving life interest like this, he'd better give me deposit interest. It's more useful."
This time Kimberly chose not to move the flowers into the vase immediately. She just put it on the nightstand and then continued the bath ritual that had been delayed. He had been in the bathroom for almost an hour. His body was so tired, and he had to stretch all his stiff muscles with a warm bath. Comfortable playing in the bathroom, Kimberly immediately rinsed and then wrapped her body with a bathrobe. When she stepped out, she almost jumped in surprise. There was the figure of a man quietly sitting on one side of the bed in his room. The man turned his head, then grinned sharply at Kimberly.
