Chapter 47

"Once upon my birthday,I had a nightmare..........................

And it happened on my birthday."

On the fifteenth of August, few days to Juana's birthday, Selena drove madly into the parking lot. She had returned from her trip days earlier but had stayed back at her family house. When she entered the living room and greeted her, Juana returned the greeting. It was a surprise visit, and she was back with lots of things. But she looked worried. She looked angry even because she had driven crazily into the garage.

"Where's Baron?"

"He's inside"

"And granny?"

"She went to see a friend"

Baron soon joined them in the living room. He was very surprised to see her. Surprisingly, Selena wasn't excited to see him. It looked to Juana as if they had met previously somewhere else.

"You didn't tell me you were coming" he said pulling her towards the balcony

Juana wanted to eavesdrop but she decided against it. She didn't want to hear anything that'd make her mood sour. She heard them nodding and talking in whispers. Selena's voice was higher than his, and Juana heard her shout: "I told you, didn't I?"

And another thing, "No I'm staying here until I'm well"

And, "you're not sending me away,are you?"

After some minutes, Selena pulled her box inside the visitor's room.

"I'll not allow you touch me!" She said,and Juana's heart beat faster. What's going on?

She stayed for more three days. All those times, Juana studied her. She bathed like three times everyday unusually. She spat thick saliva on the grass at the back of the kitchen. Juana saw her do it more than five times. Was she pregnant? She studied her stomach but it was as flat as anything. That night, after she left, she heard Baron and her grandmother discussing in granny's room. It looked like he was sulking and she was chastising him.

She listened to every word they said through the keyhole. The truth was revealed; he impregnated Selena just like she thought. This must be the second calamity. She had caught them kissing three times but she didn't know they had gone to the extent of having sex with each other.

She was disappointed in her father.

She got over it temporarily because. she got a letter of admission into the University she chose. She was excited. Everything made her want to run away from home. Everything except Colin. She'd be going to school even before lectures start because Selena came back two days later and had a quarrel with her father. It could have been a nightmare. Only it wasn't a dream but the sad reality.

Selena was one of her nightmares. Selena, the bitch of a witch that walked into their lives and ruined it.

One thing that pained her though, and would keep haunting her was the fact that a perfect love life was ruined. Her father and mother were two people who were so much into each other that it became a wonder to her everyday. Sometimes secretly in her heart, she prayed for a man like her father, and she also prayed to be a woman like her mom. But not anymore.
