CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"Welcome back, Madam Victoria," was a polite greeting from the mansion servants when they got there. In total there, were ten servants in addition to the butler, and 5 bodyguards in addition to the bodyguards in front of the mansion.
"Good evening, Ma'am Ariella and Sir Anton," greeting for both of them. They immediately took the suitcases.
"I cooked you your favorite food," said Anton to his grandmother.
"Spanish cuisine?" she asked and raised an eyebrow. Anton nodded.
A maid pulled the chair, so she could sit from the end of the dining table. Anton pulled the chair for Ariella.
Various types of food are on the table as well as drinks and fruits.
They started eating, and the moment of silence was broken when Madam Victoria spoke.
"I was not informed that my dear grandson was married," said Madam Victoria without even looking at them.
When they heard this they stopped eating. She looked coldly at Anton as if she wanted to say something that she didn't say.
"Because I wanted to surprise you," Anton replied, then looked at Ariella for a moment and smiled.
"I was surprised, actually." She looked at them meaningfully, and fixed her gaze on Ariella.
Ariella suddenly felt strange. She had been noticing Anton's grandmother for a while. She knows Madam Victoria doesn't like her.
"I never expect that a man like you, Gosh, a son of a billionaire, the heir, will marry a..." she didn't finish what she was saying. Her gaze was still focused on Ariella and her hand was pointing at her.
Ariella suddenly felt so ashamed that she couldn't speak.
All of a sudden, she laughed suddenly.
Anton signaled to her to be quiet, but his grandmother didn't even pay attention to him.
"Who would expect that a man living in heaven will marry a woman like..." She looked insultingly at Ariella. Ariella could feel that her husband's grandmother was insulting her, but she did not want her to be reprimanded in case she defended herself.
"Grandma, stop. Let's not talk about these things," he scolded her. Even he was annoyed with his grandmother for insulting Ariella. Somehow he cares about Ariella especially since she is his wife. He did not want anyone to insult or oppress his wife.
She looked evil when he turned her gaze to Anton. Frowning, she said, "¿No estás pensando? Eres el heredero, Anton. Eres un Villafuerte. No es bueno ver al príncipe casarse con una esclava. Ni siquiera me pediste permiso..."
'Aren't you thinking? You're the heir, Anton. You're a Villafuerte. It's not good to see the prince marry a slave. You didn't even ask for my permission—'
"La amo, abuela. Es mi esposa. Lo que sea que decida o haga, lo pensé cuidadosamente. No la menosprecies". He defended without being able to hold back any longer.
'I love her, grandmother. She's my wife. Whatever I decide or do, I thought about it carefully. Don't belittle her.'
Meanwhile, Ariella's heart is beating fast because her husband and grandmother are arguing in front of her because of her.
Why can't Madam Victoria accept Ariella when she already has the qualities that a woman should have? Are her standards really that high in choosing a woman for her grandchildren?
"Elegiste un tipo de mujer muy bajo. ¿Por qué ella? ¿Por qué no Cindy? Deberías haberlo pensado antes de casarte con una mujer como ella. Sabemos que todo lo que quiere de ti es dinero. Solo te está engañando".
'You chose a very low type of woman. Why her? Why not Cindy? You should have thought first before you married a woman like her. We know that all she wants from you is money. She's just fooling you.'
Ariella couldn't eat and only bowed her head. She was quiet, but her emotions were overflowing. She felt like she was about to cry.
"Abuela, ¿por qué me dices eso? No es correcto decir eso porque yo la elegí. No importa cuál sea su estado en la vida, no me importa. Por favor, deja de juzgarla. Conócela primero, abuela ."
'Grandmother, why are you saying that to me? It's not right to say that because I chose her. No matter what her status in life is, it doesn't matter to me. Please, stop judging her. Know her first, grandmother.'
Before she spoke, she wiped her mouth with a tissue. She slightly moved away from playing with only food, and she looked seriously at Anton.
"Use your mind, Anton," she said emphatically as she pointed to her senses. Anton was speechless when his grandmother spoke again. "...and you, Ariella," she called Ariella, so she looked at her.
She hid the weight of her feelings and forced herself to look at her, and did not say a word but waited for Madam Victoria to say.
"What is your status in life? Are you a businesswoman? Or a low-life creature?"
"Stop, grandmother," Anton scolded.
"I want to know her just like what you want me to do," she insisted then smiled annoyingly and then returned the meaningful look to Ariella.
Ariella could not speak. It was as if her tongue was being bent and her chest was very heavy.
She is not a businesswoman nor is she a low-life creature as she said. She is simple. She grew up in hardship, but her heart was pure.
Admitting that she wanted her life to be as comfortable as she had now when she married Anton, but she couldn't admit to herself if she loved Anton. Sometimes she feels, but sometimes she doubts her own feelings.
Does she love Anton?...
"Can't you hear me, Ariella?"
"STOP—"
"I'm not a businesswoman, Madam Victoria, and not a low-life creature," she replied calmly causing her to laugh out of annoyance at her answer.
"You are from a poor family, aren't you?"
She was about to answer when she slightly raised her hand to signal that she should not speak. "I knew it. Do you have an idea how wealthy your husband is? Huh? He is a professional and you..." she stopped and looked down then immediately returned to her eyes.
She hides that she is hurt by what Anton's grandmother says, but as long as she can be patient, she extends her understanding.
This kind of scene came to her mind like the ones she watched on television that when you fall in love with a rich person, there will be many obstacles especially if you cannot match their high standards.
"Grandmother, please stop—"
"Don't tell me to stop, Anton! Do you know what you are doing with your life? You married her, a woman like her! All she needs from you is money. People like her don't suit you , Anton!"
