The last time
CHAPTER 68
THE LAST TIME
Ariella couldn't help but cry again.
"I had a miscarriage," she cried, so they approached her and tried to settle her down.
"Shhh... Stop crying. I know it hurts….but you have no other choice but to accept it,” said her Dad who was rubbing her back.
“It's all my fault that's why I lost my baby. It's all my fault, Dad,” she cried, so he hugged her to ease her feelings.
"Shhh... everything will be fine."
All she did was cry all day. She's so tired of it but she couldn't stop it even if she forced herself.
No matter how she tries to tell her that it's not her fault, she's still blaming herself. If she only ignored everything and just focused on her baby, maybe her child is still alive.
It's too late. Even if she regrets what happened, it will be too late. She still can't get her baby back.
"We didn't expect it. Actually, I already imagined my future nephew. But maybe this is what was meant to happen." Ara said.
"Don't blame yourself, Ariella. Your baby is with God. You have to accept it and move forward.”
"I can't, Dad. I can't accept it. Even though he was only 2 weeks old in my womb, I already planned our future. I made dreams with my child. I don't know how to accept it."
"But you can still be pregnant. Maybe God just made you feel the feeling of being a mother even though the baby is still in your womb. God has a better plan for you. Stop crying. It will be alright.”
She wiped her tears and slowly settled down.
"I want to sleep. I am tired," she said.
"Go ahead. Take a rest now. You will be okay tomorrow," he said and helped her lie down.
"We're leaving," he said. "We will come here tomorrow to pick you up."
She just smiled before she closed her eyes.
They left, so she was left alone.
Lance looked for the doctor to ask something, so he told Ara to wait for him in the waiting area.
"Good evening, Doc," he greeted.
The doctor greeted him the same way. "How can I help you, sir?"
"I am the father of your patient, Ariella Villafuerte."
"Oh, Mrs. Villafuerte? Yes, what's the matter?"
"May I ask what happened to her? She told us that she had a miscarriage.”
The doctor let out a deep sigh before explaining to him what happened to her and how she lost her baby.
After that they left.
The next day, Ariella is waiting for the doctor to visit her.
It's already 6 o'clock in the morning.
She was still lying in her bed and it occurred to her if Anton had really left and left her alone in the hospital.
Later on, Anton came with fruits and food for her, so she pretended to be asleep.
Anton put the basket of fruits on the table near her bed and gently lifted the bench so that Ariella wouldn't wake up, then he placed it next to her bed.
Thinking that Ariella was fast asleep, he looked at her and held her left hand.
He wanted to tell her so many things but he chose to put it aside in his heart.
Even though he wanted to talk to her, he couldn't because he knew Ariella would push him away again.
Now, he's free to watch her and to be with her because she's sleeping.
When she wakes up, he knows she will push him away again.
He did not realize that he had fallen asleep. He couldn't sleep all night. He didn't leave, actually. He stayed in the waiting area all night.
6:30 in the morning, Ariella finally opened her eyes and saw him sleeping soundly. His head was down on the bed as he sat on the bench. He was still holding her hand so she gently removed it.
When she got up from bed, she watched him as if there was something in her mind as she looked at him.
It took minutes before she took her eyes off him, then she left.
She went outside for a while while the sun wasn't too hot.
She just stood while observing the surroundings.
She took a deep breath and let out a deep sigh.
She still could feel it, feel the pain.
She looked up in the sky and asked, "Why? Huh?” until her tears gradually formed. "Why are you doing this to me?" she asked again until her tears fell.
It took a few seconds before she looked down, and then wiped her tears.
She stood there stunned for a few minutes until she decided to go back to the room.
She was almost in the room when she met Anton.
She was shocked when he immediately hugged her so tight.
"Where did you go? You didn't even wake me up," he said worriedly.
She just looked him in the eye and didn't speak until Anton got what she meant even though she didn't say anything.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
She still didn't speak and went straight to her room.
Now, she's a little calm somehow unlike yesterday and the previous days when she almost drowned in her own tears.
"Are you hungry? Just wait. I will prepare your break-”
"No, I'm not hungry. Thanks," she said immediately as she sat on the bed and was stunned.
"But you have to eat so you will regain your strength," he insisted.
"I said no. I am not hungry. It's so easy to understand, isn't it?” she said annoyed.
"I just want you to eat. I'm sorry if you got irritated. I will just prepare your meal so if you feel hungry, just eat it. I will put it here.”
Ariella just lay down and turned her back so she wouldn't be seen anymore.
There are no tears in her eyes now but her heart is broken. She's emotionally weak now and even if she tries to be okay, she can't.
Anton knows that Ariella does not want to see and talk to him, but he is still trying to fix their relationship.
Even if he forced himself to be brave and bear everything, he was still hurt. He still feels weak emotionally. He is also a person who knows how to get hurt.
"Can't our relationship be fixed?" he suddenly asked.
Ariella heard it clearly, so she thought for a moment.
Even if she remembers the good memories of the two of them, she still can't make up for the pain he caused especially every time she thinks of her baby.
"Please give me a chance again," he added.
“We have discussed this. We don't have to repeat the discussion again," she said.
"I can't lose you, my wife. I already lost my baby and I don't want to lose you too. Please, let's just fix it. I believe we can save our relationship.”
She stood up and turned to look at her.
"Do I still have a reason to come back to you?" she asked.
"Our marriage. Don't you love me? If you love me….then let's fix it.”
She didn't know what else to say to him now that she had made up her mind. She couldn't change her mind even if she tried.
Even if she remembers all their good memories, her decision will not change. She had already decided and it was final.
"You don't love me, so you hurt me and made me a fool, do you? Because if you love me, you won't put me in this situation. It's all your fault! It's your fault that's why we end up like this. It's all your fault that's why I lost our baby! Because of the emotional damage you caused me!”
Just like before, she ended up crying again.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I am really sorry," was all he could say.
All of a sudden, her Dad arrived and saw him.
"You f*cking bastard!" he said angrily and quickly punched him in the face causing him to fall.
“Dad!”
"How dare you come near my daughter!"
When he was about to punch Anton again, Ara immediately pulled him away as well as Ariella.
Because he was punched so hard, his lip bled but he didn't care about it.
“I'm sorry, Dad.”
"You thought I wouldn't know? Why did she get emotional stress? Huh? It's because of you, isn't it?!” he said angrily and tried to approach him but Ara and Ariella held him tightly.
Ara said, "Dad, stop. Stop it, Dad.”
"Dad, please. Don't hurt him.” Ariella said, so he suddenly looked at her and got confused by what she had said.
“Did you hear yourself, didn't you? That man made you stressed, didn't he? Who else will be the reason for your emotional stress but this man! Tell me what he did to you. I swear, I won't let him live anymore."
He was looking at Anton angrily.
"I'm sorry, Dad. I'm really sorry-”
"You're guilty! It's true! What did you do to my daughter? Huh? Did you cheat on her? You did the same way again, didn't you?!”
Anton couldn't speak.
Ariella said, "Dad, please. Stop it. Let's just go home.”
"I will teach him a lesson first. Tell me what he did to you.”
"I'm really sorry, my wife. I'm really sorry, Dad.”
"Dad, let's go home. Don't make a scene here. It's embarrassing, and also he's Ariella's husband. Just talk to him properly," Ara said.
"Shut up, Ara. Can't you see your sister? Huh? You won't understand how I feel unless you become a parent."
"Dad, let's go home, please. Please, let's go now,” Ariella cried but she's trying her best to stop her tears from falling.
When he turned his gaze to Ariella and saw her crying, his heart seemed to break with so much pity. He couldn't bear to see her cry.
He came closer and hugged her to make her feel better somehow.
"Stop crying. Okay, we will go home," he said.
He took Ariella's things and put them in the bag so that everything was ready. They will just wait for the doctor to give the discharge slip.
"We will go home but you will not return to him. Is it clear?”
They were all shocked by what he said but for Ariella it was better and even if he didn't say that… he would never go back to Anton again.
"Dad, please. We will fix it," Anton said.
"You are not the one to decide," he said.
He looked sadly at Ariella. Ariella turned her gaze to him for a moment.
"We are separating, Dad," Ariella said, which shocked them, while Anton held back his tears.
He couldn't do anything because it was her decision. He just has to accept what her decision is whether he wants it or not.
Everything wouldn't have ended up like this if he chose to stick to one.
"What?" he asked.
"We're going to separate," she repeated.
"Are you sure?"
"My wife, let's talk about it. Please.”
"My decision was final. I won't change my mind. Nothing can change my mind.”
