04. Sinful Book 2
It had officially been a week since I came back from my visit to Nigeria. Everything had gone back to normal, and work had fully resumed much to my dismay.
Dan and I were having lunch at one of the restaurants close to the office; Dan had become my lunch buddy, it reminded me of Noah-
"So, I was thinking; do you want to have dinner with Samantha and I?" Dan asked. I froze with my spoon in my mouth. When I recovered, I looked up at Dan, to be sure that he was joking; he wasn't.
"Dinner?" I asked him and he nodded.
"You can invite Antonio too," Dan added. I dropped my spoon carelessly on my plate and leaned back, looking at Dan like he just lost his mind.
"It was Sam's idea. She said she wanted to officially thank the both of you for taking Diego away from her," personally, I didn't have any issue with the idea of having dinner with them, but I was thinking about Antonio, he had been singing nonstop about how he never wanted to see Samantha. Of course, I reminded him that he was not in the position to condemn Samantha when he did the same thing; Antonio didn't speak to me for the whole day because I compared him to Samantha, he hated the thought of it; so asking him to come along for the dinner was like walking on broken glass.
"Oh I don't know, Dan. You know how Antonio is," I told him, I didn't want to hide the fact from Dan.
"I know, but I think it would be good for them. They need to let out all the hate they feel towards each other," Dan said. I let out a breath and told Dan I'd try to talk to Antonio.
And when I did, I received a firm "NO! I'M NOT GOING,"
"Come on, we don't have to spend the whole night, let's just go to show that we don't have any bad blood towards her," I tried to convince him.
"I have bad blood towards her! I'm never going!" He said firmly. Antonio laid on the bed, facing the ceiling; his position gave me an idea. I jumped on his body, putting my legs on each side.
"I can believe I have two seven years olds in this house," I huffed, rolling my eyes.
I looked down at Antonio and leaned in like I was about to kiss him, but instead, I got up from his body immediately.
"You play dirty woman!" Antonio laughed.
"You started it! So are you going or I'd have to call Dan to invite any of his friends to be my da-"
"Fine! But Thirty minutes, that's all; no room for negotiation!" He said, got up from the bed and hugged me.
"Fine! Thirty minutes is plenty of time. And please, be nice," I smiled at him. I felt bad for blackmailing him, but I knew that was the only way he'd agree to go with me.
"Never!"
Antonio picked out a simple black dress that had an open back for me, then picked out a black pant suit and a black dress shirt for himself.
We got dressed and when it was time, we went on our way to the location Dan picked.
The dinner was the worst, most awkward dinner I had ever attended in my life. Samantha that gathered us together wasn't talking, she had an awkward look on her face, looking at everyone then looking down at her plate.
Dan and I, the life of the party, as Antonio had sworn himself to silence, decided to talk about the most random things, like buttons.
"Okay, I guess we're done here," Antonio stood up immediately, dusting off his shirt that didn't have any spec of dirt on it.
I looked up at him and tried to pull him down, but he didn't budge. Antonio didn't even touch his food one bit.
"Antonio!" He looked down at me with a frown on his face, the frown that made me stand up, giving Samantha and Dan an apologetic look. Antonio grabbed my hand, letting me know that it was final, we had to leave.
"I'm so sorry, but we have to go," I smiled at Dan.
"The dinner was shitty anyway," Dan laughed. I looked over Samantha, she had a certain look on her face, but she wasn't looking at Antonio or me, she was in her own small world.
The impatient Antonio, led me away from the table.
"Wait!" Samantha's voice yelled, it was the loudest I had ever heard her talk. Antonio and I froze in our spot. What was her problem? What did she have to say? And who did she want to talk to, me or Antonio?
Thankfully, not many people were in the restaurant; there were about two customers, then three workers at the counter, but that didn't stop them from being very invested in what was going on at our table.
Samantha ran to Antonio and I, she looked at me for a split second, then turned to Antonio.
"I'm really sorry about Diego. I know you don't like kids and all, but I was hoping you'd come get him, forgetting what happened to you that night. I swear I didn't mean to be a bad mother. Sewa! Please, I'm really sorry. Everything messed me up big time, and I know that isn't a well enough reason for my actions, but I-" Samantha broke out in tears.
"Please, give me a chance to make it up to Diego. Please," Samantha cried. My eyes were on the floor along with Samantha. What the fuck was all this?
"Sam?" Dan ran to us and picked Samantha up, she pushed him away.
"Please, say something," Samantha looked from me to Antonio.
"Let's get out of there. This was the same stupid reason I didn't want to be here in the first fucking place! But you never listen to me! Now we have to deal with this shit!" Antonio's voice came like a thunderstorm. Samantha flinched and Dan held her.
"Don't talk about her like that!" Dan defended.
"I never wanted to talk about her, and I never want to be in a position where I have to talk about her, so make sure she stays away from me and my family, especially my son!" Antonio warned.
Antonio pulled me away from all the drama, leading me out of the restaurant and into his car. All the while, all the wheels in my head were spinning.
What night was Samantha talking about? What the hell?
