Now everyone call me stupid and completely insane. And sure, I could never defeat Devin in combat, but I had to try. And even if we shouldn't fight. Then maybe he can tell me what's going on here and I could forward that information.
I just had to try it. I could do it somehow. At least that's what I told myself...
I'm not here to fight, I'm here to stop Devin. After all, I've known him longer than anyone else in the pack, so I would definitely have an advantage.
So yes. I chose to follow Devin no matter what the consequences of my actions. And if I have to sacrifice my life to stop this, then I would. If I can use it to protect my mate, too...
Still in my wolf form and in attack position, I followed him deeper into the forest. Beside me, one of those monstrous beasts just landed and looked at me through its bloodshot black eyes. I wanted to jump at him to fight back, but he didn't do anything. He just looked at me closely. As out of nowhere as he had come, he was gone again and attacked another wolf of the pack.
As much as I would have liked to help the other wolf, I didn't have time for that right now. I need to find Devin and make sure this all ends once and for all.
After a few minutes I was so far away from what had happened that the sounds of battle could no longer be heard. It was pretty quiet here and even the shells could hardly be heard.
"Silva, Silva, Silva," I heard the redhead's psychotic voice. It came from behind me.
When I turned around, he was just emerging in his human form between two bushes. Funny that I hadn't scented it before.
"One chance and you're cheating on me." He just kept rambling on. I, on the other hand, growled menacingly at him and showed him my lips. That asshole can fuck me.
"You're lucky I'm still interested in you." With every sentence he said, he came closer to me. "I think I'm in love with you."
Love? Was he really just talking about love? When you love someone, you don't attack their family, because that's what the pack is for me. you are my family
I couldn't resist commenting on this, so I turned back to face him in the same form and give him my opinion.
My bones cracked and my body twisted until I finally faced him naked.
That's exactly what he apparently wanted, because he started to grin widely.
"It's not love," I hissed. "Maybe you could have experienced it if you hadn't just murdered your mate in cold blood. BUT PROBABLY A MAN LIKE YOU IS NOT ABLE TO LOVE!" I got louder and louder towards the end. And what did I get as a reward? Of course, a juicy slap in the face from someone who just babbled about loving me. Devin is ill. A sick psychopath.
My head flew to the right. I kept my head in that position for the time being, but then slowly turned it back to Devin to look into his cold brown eyes.
"You're a monster," I hissed. Then I took a few steps away from him and spread my arms out in command. "Fight. I challenge you quite fairly now. If I win, you hiss, your hunters, and your hybrids out of all attacked packs. If you win, I'll go with you voluntarily, without resistance."
Devin seemed to find this funny because he started to laugh. And how he laughed. He laughed heartily. But then he became serious again from one second to the next and looked at me coldly.
"Even though I would very likely win this fight, I haven't played fair for a long time. I also don't have the time for that because I still have something to do."
What did he mean? What is he up to now?
Before I could think about it, he was suddenly right in front of me again. I couldn't react that fast, so he bit his arm and pressed the wound on my mouth.
"Drink!" he said, very calmly. I looked at him with fearful eyes. His eyes glowed red, but what was frightening about it was how bloodshot they were, just like the longer fangs in his blood-stained mouth.
Then it dawned on me. He was one too. He has also had himself transformed into a hybrid. I would never have had a chance against him. How could I think for one second that he's playing fair?
I shook my head in terror and tried to resist it.
"DRINK!!!" Devin was beyond angry this time and his voice had taken on a demonic depth. This scared me so badly that I accidentally swallowed the blood in my mouth. Which means swallowed. I literally choked on it and caught to cough.
"Nice job, princess." Devin let go of me and pushed me to the ground. "Well, as you know, princess, that's not all." Devin squatted down next to me and stroked my cheek. "In my blood is only the remedy I told you about then. You only get the vampire poison through the bite."
I widened my eyes in horror. I headbutted Devin which was a pretty stupid decision since now my head was hurting too. However, he was distracted by this action for a second, which I use to get up and run away from him.
As soon as I took the first step, a hand grabbed my ankle and I fell again. And shortly after, I felt a searing pain in my leg.
Startled, I turned my head back and unfortunately had to realize that Devin just bit my leg.
I fell back onto the mossy forest floor, paralyzed. I turned my head to the side and looked longingly in the direction my mate would have come from if he had managed to save me.
But he wouldn't make it. i was lost There was no cure for vampire venom.
Black dots came into my field of vision and I knew it was going to end now. I took one last deep breath. Then I closed my eyes and said goodbye to my life while deflating my lungs.
