Stevens P.O.V.
I rushed to Arsen to help him. The hybrid above him still has his claws buried in his chest, while the alpha tried to snap at the attacker's legs with his maw.
Meanwhile, Costa had his hands full with the other hybrids, who were now back on their feet. So I took over and pushed the hybrid off the Alpha.
In that second of distraction, I take my chance and bit his neck tightly. It was clear that the only way to kill these things was to rip their heads off, there seemed to be no other way. Unfortunately, that wasn't as easy as it sounded.
With all my strength I bit my throat through this hybrid, which of course tried to fight back. But no chance, I just couldn't separate his head from his body.
With a jolt, it happened after all. I let go of my neck and looked up. In front of the Alpha's front legs lay the wolf's head of this hybrid. Apparently he helped me.
"We have to remove their heads." , I said for everyone else through the Mindlink. Of course we had almost no chance against these monsters, but we had to at least try.
"How? It seems their throats aren't that easy to cut," complained one of the other men.
"It's best if you work in pairs." Arsen ordered.
"How are we supposed to fight them together? They clearly outnumber us. More likely that two of them will fight one of us. In addition, Cody is seriously injured. I have to try to protect Cody." It was Marius who said this. He sounded quite worried and desperate.
"I don't know how..." Even in the Alpha's voice there was little hope left. He knew Marius was right. We 're going to lose this fight " FUCK !"
I looked over at the Alpha, who was being attacked by a hybrid again. But surprisingly, this very hybrid got hit with a pan.
Moment? A pan?
I looked at the woman holding the pan.
"Get your hands off my husband," the blond woman yelled. Arsen seemed to have the same reaction as I did, as he looked into his wife's eyes just as surprised. "Damn it. Rapunzel was right, a frying pan really is the best weapon."
The next second, Arsen was standing in front of Aurelia as a human and asking what she was doing out here: "I told you to hide, so what the hell are you doing out here???" he snapped at her angrily at.
"Inala said that in the mindlink you said you were short, so we thought you could use some help," my best friend defended I won't do that. I will fight by your side out here whether you like it or not. I will protect my family and my children just like you do. I'm not a helpless person, I'm the lun-... "
Aurelia couldn't utter, because just then one of the hybrids attacked again, only this time I was the one who got knocked out.
"Bad, bad, bad wolf," Aurelia snapped immediately, hitting the hybrid above me with the frying pan. Even Arsen wasn't that quick to react, but he put a stop to it by transforming and taking the hybrid from me He sank his fangs into the attacker's neck just as a sandstone-colored she-wolf, Inala's she-wolf, snatched the other end, and they ripped him in two and severed his head.
Only now did I notice how the battlefield was filling up with more and more female wolves.
But where was my girl?
Suddenly, an incredibly burning pain went through me. I couldn't stand it, so I turned back into my human form. I curled up into a ball and somehow tried to push away the pain, but I couldn't.
I had never felt anything like this in my life. It was terrible.
"Steven? Oh God, what's wrong?" A super excited Aurelia came to my side and tried to check me for wounds. "I can't see anything. So what's wrong? Where's the pain?"
I didn't answer, instead I started screaming as the pain only continued to mount immeasurably. He should stop. I do not want to any more. It hurts so bad.
"Silva", it came out softly and under my roar. I could only think of her, because I didn't feel any more feelings coming from her. There was nothing anymore. Pure emptiness.
Aurelia looked around. "I don't see her anywhere," she voiced my worst fears. Oh please, make that not true.
Shouldn't she stay close to me? Oh fuck, I think... I think she's dead.
"SILVA?!" I yelled, hoping she was close, but she didn't come. She didn't come to my side and try to take the pain away. She wasn't there.
Suddenly there was silence around us. At first I thought I was just not aware of anything anymore because of the pain, but then I noticed that the sounds of fighting had stopped.
The hybrids all lined up in a corridor to the left and right of us. And the hunters who were left stood by their jeeps and held their weapons, ready to fire at surrounding wolves of our pack.
"What's going on now please?" asked the beta.
"It can't mean anything good." That said Arsen.
No, that really couldn't mean anything good, because unlike them, I've already spotted them.
At the end of this makeshift passage formed by the hybrids, a redhead emerged from between the dense trees. And the worst part was that he was holding a brunette woman in his arms who was hanging lifeless in his arms. Her head was hanging toward the ground, and her loose hair almost reached the ground. I recognized this woman immediately, of course. I would never forget her body, because it was her, my mate, my Silva.
"No," I whispered, still in pain, trying to get some sign of life from her. She couldn't be dead. This can't end like this. Where was our happy ending?
This psycho Devin seemed to find my pain very funny because he just started laughing.
When he stopped in front of me. He put down my wonderful mate in front of me. Of course I crawled the last meter that separated us to her. I bent over her and tried to check if her heart was still beating, if she might still be breathing, anything, as long as it was a sign that she was alive.
"Silva please." Tears found their way to my eyes as I realized that Silva had really left me.
"I'm so sorry, Steven." Aurelia whispered behind me, on the verge of tears herself. But I hardly paid her any attention. I didn't have the nerve for it.
A silver wolf next to us transformed, revealing Jaxon, who aggressively charged at Devin. "YOU PROMISED NOT TO HURT HER. YOU PROMISED NOT TO KILL THEM. YOU PROMISED YOU ASSHOLE." Towards the end his voice cracked more and more. He tried to hold back his tears too.
In addition, I heard a dominant growl, which clearly came from the Alpha, who was also standing behind me. Still, I hardly noticed it. All my thoughts were with my mate, with my dead mate. That just couldn't be true. Silva can't be dead. Please Goddess don't let her die here now!
As if the goddess had heard my prayers, Silva opened her eyes as if by pressing a button and my pain passed immediately. But there was nothing in her eyes but emptiness.
