###Chapter 440 I'm Sorry, I Couldn't Be Your Hero
I pursed my lips. Jordan was really smart.
And the driver was really unreliable. I thought that he would at least help me call the police. I sighed. Strangers were really unreliable
He looked at me with a strange expression. "Don't you want to ask about Jordan's condition?"
How could I? Jordan blocked most of the sulphuric acid for me. He wouldn't be any better than me, but I didn't know how to ask him.
I looked at Liam. "Liam, am I very selfish?" I asked.
He frowned. "He premeditated for a long time, and it's not your fault. You didn't know that this would happen. You can complain about Jordan, but Ivelle, we can't deny that he has done his best for you."
Yes, he had done his best, and he didn't expect that Brad would harbour such hatred for him. We didn't expect that Brad was digging for a big trap against us for so many years.
But it was all because of him, and these were the facts!
I didn't know what kind of expression I had that made Liam sigh. "Ivelle, if you don't put down the things that burdens you, you'll become more and more tired along the journey."
I glanced at him and smiled bitterly. "What about you? Can you let go of Blair's past and live a good life with her?"
He was silent for a moment. "We're talking about you now."
"Yes, we're still talking about me. I just laid it out on you in a different way. To be honest, it's easy for us to talk about the things that we didn't experience, but when we did, it suddenly became a big deal."
My feisty attitude made Liam grimaced and he didn't talk anymore.
The anaesthesia was wearing off and I could feel a burning sensation slowly enveloping my burnt face. I laid on the bed, thinking about the scar this burn would left in my face after it healed.
Andrew and Erin must have heard about my accident as they both came to see me. Erin's eyes were immediately filled with tears when she saw my current state. When they learned that I got hurt because of Jordan's affairs, they were livid. Fortunately, they also learned that Jordan had blocked most of the damages for me and the expression on their faces lightened.
However, two people got injured from this incident. Someone must be held accountable.
Even with just normal means and procedures, Brad was arrested and was proven guilty of intentional wounding. No matter how powerful and influential Silverman family was, they couldn't argue with it. After all, people got hurt.
Jordan was badly hurt. He blocked almost all of the sulphuric acid aimed for me. Unlike me, a large area of his body was burned. Additionally, if he was not taken care of, he would lost his life. He stayed in the intensive care unit for a few days before things got better.
When I was transferred to the general ward, I was still lying in bed and could not move. The gauze on my face had been removed and there was no big problem with my eyes, but a scar on my face was left behind.
It wasn't a big scar. It was as small as a thumb and it was located near my left eye. But it was my face, so of course, I still felt dissatisfied at the small scar.
Jordan was yet to wake up. The doctor said he needed to rest as the burned area was too large and it damaged parts of the nerves.
I moved a stool and sat by his bed to stare at his handsome profile. He was lying on his stomach because he was burned to his back.
For so many years, we were unable to tell whether the relationship between us was caused by love or the debt we owed to each other.
Did we owe each other that much that we couldn't let go?
Jordan woke up that evening.
The doctor changed his bandage and explained his current condition to me. "It will be very painful after the anaesthesia wore off, and the patient can't get out of bed for the time being. We should pay attention to changing his urine bag and scrubbing his body, so as to not to make him uncomfortable."
I nodded. When I thought about it, this was the first time I would take care of Jordan after so many years of being together. He was rarely ill. Even if he was, it wasn't anything serious.
When the doctor left, the nurse carefully changed the bandage on his back. "The medicine for the wound needs to be changed every three hours. Remember to come and call us."
I nodded and thanked the nurse.
Not long after the nurse left, Jordan lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't. "I'm glad you're okay." He said, after many failed attempts of speaking.
It was strange that the first thing this man said when he woke up made me cry.
I tried to suppress my tears but it was futile. "Jordan, you are a jerk."
Even if looked exhausted, he was still handsome. His eyes went to the scar on my face and smiled. "Don't worry, it's just a minor injury, just take care of it." He said that, but there was a hint of relief in his tone.
I grimaced. "Small injury? I almost lost my life and you said it was a minor injury? You really don't take my life seriously, do you?" I said fiercely, but there was no actual blaming in my voice.
He just smiled. "I'm thirsty."
I wanted to be a cruel wife and let him die of thirst, but my heart softened when I looked at his eyes. I gave him water while my uncontrollable tears hit the back of my hand.
When he saw it and he sighed. "Why are there so many tears? Girls shouldn't cry for too long because it was easy to get ugly."
I stared at him. "I'm disfigured and ugly, Jordan." I choked out. "I don't need you to sacrifice for me. I don't appreciate you doing this."
He hummed. "I wasn't asking for your gratitude, silly. The real target was me, you are innocent. And didn't I hurt you before? That's why I deserve to suffer this time, you do not need to blame yourself."
I bowed my head. "That's what I thought." I said in a low voice.
Jordan smiled and reached out his hand to hold mine. I wanted to take it back, so I tried doing so, but he gasped in pain. Probably, because his wounds was stretched.
Forget it. I guess it was okay to hold hands.
His hand was cold when he spoke again. "Ivelle, I'm sorry. I couldn't be your hero. Every time you get hurt, I can't show up on time to cover everything for you. This time, too. I thought I could block all the injuries for you, but I couldn't. You're still hurt."
He raised his hand and tried to touch the scar on my face, but because it hurt too much to do so, he withdrew his hand.
