Beta Kelvin
I sighed in relief when Kiara changed the topic all by herself. I was wrecking my brain, trying to figure out how I was going to reveal the truth to her, when she suddenly said, "Nevermind. I have another question.“
"MMh." I hummed and nodded, giving her the go-ahead.
“The truck that was driving in when we were leaving looked far more familiar, don't you think?“
“I don't know. I didn't stare much at it.“ I shrugged and stood to walk by the river. ''Are you hungry? We can get some fish.“ I then told her.
“I am not. I just want to leave here. Will you take me back to Alpha Maseno's?“ She asked.
“Of course I will. But you need to have something first.“ I responded.
“Fine then. I'll eat a little." She pouted and went to sit under a tree.
Her eyes followed my every step. From when I cut out a stable and wavy branch to make a fishing hoop from it to fishing and removing their scales to roast them
"Come and have some, I called when they were ready.
“They are really delicious,'' she commented in a mouthful of it. She wiped her lips with the back of her hand and then continued,” I would have beaten myself to pulp if I hadn't eaten this.“
“Why would you? You wouldn't have known how delicious they are if you hadn't eaten them,” I retorted as I watched her want to shove a whole head in her mouth. "Careful princess, they got bones,” I warned.
“I am a big girl now.“ She moaned and licked her fingers. Chuckling, I walked to the river to wash my hands, then to sit under a tree for a short nap.
I knew that we would soon need to be on the run once again. I may have masked our scents through the clothes we had worn, but not for long.
With the wolf's bane I had added to Alpha Benna's drink and his minions, I knew for sure that it would wear out soon and they would be out, following our tracks.
“Hey dude, do you still have the girl or has she escaped?“ Speaking of the devil, it was Alpha Benna, through the mind-link.
“She escaped, but don't worry; I'll find her. What about you guys? Are you now okay? Before I dashed after Kiara, I heard you cussing that you guys can't shift.“ I asked, faking concern even though I knew I was the culprit for that.
“Not yet. But the pack's doctor is here. We will be fine in the next ten minutes. I hope you have left scents in your tracks because that's what we will use to find you and help you out.“ He responded.
Almost panicking, I responded, ''Of course I have. Do let me know when you start tracking me down. Just in case.“
I immediately shut him out and walked to Kiara, who was now lying beside the river. “We need to leave, now!“ I demanded and started walking toward the way that would lead us to the woods.
“Huh, now? Why? I thought we should stay here a little bit longer. You even promised to teach Raika how to swim.“ She rose to her feet, dusted her dress, and asked all those questions in one breath.
“I know I promised you that, princess, but we can't anymore.“ I replied while pushing away the branches blocking our path with my hands to make a clean way for her.
“Why can't we?“ She asked, almost catching up with me. “
“Because my plan kind of backfired. I hoped the wolf's bane would keep him weak for an hour or two, but he just told me that he called the pack doctor and he'd be okay in ten minutes.“ I wiped the sweat forming on my forehead with the back of my hand.
“Okay. Do you have any idea where we are going, and I mean, how we will do it?“ She asked me.
"Are you ready for a run?“ I turned to ask her, a smile crossing my face.
“Mmh,” she hummed, tilting her head sideways as if she were in deep thought. After a minute, she giggled, ''Why not?“ And then she brushed past me.
Before I could take a run toward her, a voice stopped us dead in our tracks.
“Stop both of you!“ It was a familiar voice. I looked behind me and gasped. My eyes went toward Kiara, and she was as scared as I was.
“John, I thought I had asked Benna to tell me before you guys started coming after us.“ I said, and I hurriedly walked to catch up with the scared Kiara.
John ignored me and started talking to Kiara. ''You know you can't run away from us."
She remained silent, looking at me as if asking what we would be doing next.
I pulled her toward me and whispered against her ears, ''Run, Kiara. I'll take care of him.“ Letting go of her, I watched as she dissapered behind the thick shrubs.
“What the hell, she is getting away!“ John yelled and started running toward me. “Come on, let's go.“ He grabbed my wrists.
“No one is going after her.“ I said it, my voice low and serious.
“Stop kidding, dude. Benna said he'd reward anyone who would get her.“ He responded, trying to push me out of his way.
“I mean it.“ I pushed him backward and looked him in the eye as I said that. He wanted to argue, but seeing the look in my eyes, he pressed his lips in displeasure.
After a short silence, he asked, “Aren't you afraid of going against Benna? He trusts you, and you know that."
“I am not afraid of anyone. You can go back and tell him that I said no one would be going after her. That's what you are itching to do, right? Go be his good boy and get rewarded.“ I told him.
“I won't; trust me. But what will you tell the others?“ He asked me while scratching the back of his head.
“They won't know what happened here. We will lie and say that she escaped and we couldn't find her."
“Well, that's a lie,” A voice spoke from behind us. I and John turned only to see a group of Benna's guards with Kiara. She was bleeding all over, and the way it looked, she had passed out.
What do you think Beta Kelvin will do? Talk John into helping him fight those guys and take Kiara with him, or let fate take its course. Let me know in the comment section.
