Chapter 4
Chapter 4
After the wooden sword class ended, we all headed towards each of our next classes.
The other students were keeping their distance from me, Zary and the bum saintess for some reason though.
Must be the saintess’ fault.
“Almost everyone is headed in the same direction. Did they all pick history class too?”
“Yeah. Since we don’t have to take notes or answer questions, half the people who chose it was so they could slack of during the class.”
“And the other half?”
“To hear about secret history not written in any books.
All the teacher’s stories have tons of info that could basically be classified as national secrets.”
“Is this school allowed to just hand out secrets like that to anyone who enrols?”
“The ruler of this country doesn’t seem to care, and this school’s got more authority than the noble’s that do.”
“Is this school that serious?”
Before I realized it, we arrived at what looks to be the history classroom.
The three of us were the first to enter, but Mira was already inside sitting in a seat at the back of the class.
“You’re staring at her again.~”
After hearing what Zary said, I turned my head away towards the front of the class, and there in the teacher’s seat sat a child sized girl with pale skin, white hair and red eyes tossing small iron spheres in her mouth which seemed to have two long sharp fangs.
chomp*crunch* crunch
I looked at Zary with a questioning look.
“She’s the history teacher. One of the few 500-year-old vampires still alive today. Rosa Umidori.”
10/10 name
“Why you trying not to laugh Kurai?”
“…Are all vampires few or just the 500-year-old ones?”
“…”
“…”
“Let’s just get to our seats”
“You have not yet answered my que-”
Zary started pushing me from the back with my shoes sliding smoothly across the floor towards the seats in the back row where Mira was sitting.
I took the seat beside her on her right; Zary took the one on my right and the bum saintess took the last four on Zary’s right completely laying herself across them.
The Vampire levitated from her chair and landed on her desk.
“Now that you have all finally arrived, I have decided the grace you with the story of how the Empress came to power.
When she had just turned fifteen and was still just an imperial princess her father the previous ruler of this country announced that she was to be engaged to the prince of an enemy country.
And so, the princess proceeded to do what the majority of you nobles did.
Run away from home to enrol in Sword Fein Academy.”
A random male student raised his hand.
“Speak”
“My parents told me that the reason the empress enrolled in the Academy was to gain strength and allies in order to root out the corruption in the imperial family.”
“Oh, she gained strength and allies alright, but that girl cared less about corruption than she did about the colours of her female classmate’s underwear.
She wasn’t even aware of the existence of the corruption.
She only came to this Academy because she didn’t want to marry a man.
Half the time you could hear her lamenting why the enemy prince couldn’t be a princess instead, though even if it was a princess this country didn’t allow same sex marriage back then.”
The student looked at the vampire with a look of half doubt and half shock.
“When she first arrived at the Academy all she did was flirt with girls and passively went through each class. Yet before she knew it, she became the top student.
She unknowingly had talent for the sword.
And so, after her graduation she immediately slaughtered her father, her elder brother, the enemy prince and all his servants who came to the country with him right outside the gates of Sword Fein Academy in plain sight of everyone.
She then gathered the imperial army and invaded the enemy country before word of their prince’s death could get back to them.
She slaughtered the rest of the enemy country’s royal family and more than half their soldiers.
A week later she officially became Empress and sole ruler of this country, The Phenix Empire.
She gave a speech spouting nonsense about how her father was corrupt and was trying to sell off the Empire to the enemy kingdom. With false testimony from a stand-in of the enemy king that she prepared, everyone believed her nonsense.
The very next day she changed the law to allow same sex marriage and murdered all the nobles who openly complained.
The day after that she brought some of her female classmates to the castle. One of them was the former student council president who always treated the whole academy like her own country, the empress made her the first queen consort and gave her full authority to manage the country so she could slack off and go fool around with her other classmates who all also became queen consorts days later.”
Sigh
“Alright story’s over. Any questions?”
I raised my hand.
“Speak.”
“What happened to your speech pattern?”
“Pffft”
The vampire rolled her eyes at me and Zary who barely managed to hold back her laugh then plopped down on her desk.
“Only questions related to the story are permitted.”
Tch.
I was gonna ask her how a vampire who’s lived for over 500 years went all that time without learning how to read next.
Mira raised her hand.
“Speak”
“Do you really expect me to believe that the only person who’s ever fought the demon lord to a draw was someone so frivolous?”
“What draw? That was completely one-sided. The only reason that demon lord is still alive was because he begged for is life offering up a third of the demon continent as a piece offering and offered to sign a nonaggression magic contract. And the only reason she agreed to it was because her first queen consort told her to.
She didn’t even ask her for an explanation or anything, she just agreed immediately while rubbing her face against the consort’s chest.”
“Do you expect me to believe any of that?”
“Whether you believe it or not is of no concern of mine.”
Zary raised her hand.
“Speak”
“How strong is the queen consort?
If she was on the battlefield of the fight against the demon lord, she must be pretty strong right?”
“She’s on the same level as one of that demon lord’s Four Malevolent Knights.”
After hearing that, Zary turned in my or rather in Mira’s direction and asked.
“Yo, Mira, how strong are you compared to those Four Malevolent Knights?”
“…I’ll be stronger than all of them by the time I graduate.”
After hearing her say that I reflexively began to speak.
“So, what you’re saying is that the current you is weaker than all of them.”
She glared at me for a few seconds before turning away.
Kinda wish she’d have kept glaring; her eyes looked nice.
“Since we’re on the subject of demons, I’ll tell you the story of how the current demon lord won the demon lord selection trial.”
Mira got up from her seat and left the classroom.
But why though?
I stared at her till she completely left the classroom.
The vampire didn’t seem to care that she left. She just continued on with her story.
“The demon lord selection trial is just a free for all among the demon lord candidates.
Anyone who surrenders gets teleported from the trial grounds.
You could fight with any weapon or object at your disposal.
There were five candidates: An orc king, an oni a lich, a dark elf man and last and least in my opinion, the demon who would become the current demon lord, A.K.A Mira’s father.
Ziro Akabane”
This demon lord’s already giving off fraudulent energy
“The fuck you lookin at?”
I turned my head away from the bum saintess back to the vampire.
===
All five candidates gathered at the trial grounds with their respective weapons and tools.
The Orc had a big battle Axe, the oni had a glowing blue great sword, the lich seemingly had nothing, the dark elf had a black bow with purple markings and Ziro had a scroll, a storage necklace and a black box four times as wide as a person.
Immediately as the fight started, Ziro activated the scroll.
It created a cubic barrier that surrounded him on all sides, then sat down on the black box, took out a plate of fried griffin legs and started eating all while staring at the other candidates with a look in his eyes that was basically screaming “Oh don’t mind me I’m just here to watch.”.
Speaking of watching, the whole trial was being shown to the whole demon continent through holographic screens made of magic.
After seeing what Ziro did, the Orc gritted his teeth loud enough to sound like nails scraping against a black board, raised his axe, ran towards the barrier and slammed his axe right into it.
Though the Impact was loud, it didn’t leave a single scratch on the barrier.
