Chapter 5
Chapter 5
After seeing that his attack had no effect, the orc pulled back his axe, gripped it tighter and swung it at the barrier again to no effect.
Instead of stopping like most people with common sense would, the orc just kept swinging his axe at the barrier over and over until a magic arrow pierced the back of his head killing him instantly.
His corpse fell towards the barrier and bounced off rolling on the ground.
Everyone turned their heads to look at the person who shot the arrow.
It was the Dark elf.
“One down”
After hearing what he said, the other candidates’ eyes tuned serious, excluding Ziro who had already finished his fried griffin meat and moved on to eating a light purple watermelon three times the size of a regular one, but the others were no longer paying him attention.
The lich’s shadow expanded behind him and out of it came hundreds of undead creatures of all races: Humans, demons goblins orcs elves and a dragon.
The lich climbed on the undead dragon’s back; it parted its wings and started to fly, but then the oni came flying at it with his sword swinging.
The dragon deflected the oni’s sword with its right index fingernail; the oni landed on the ground and so did a big chunk of the dragon’s fingernail.
The oni leapt at the dragon again and the dragon swung its whole right hand at him, but this time not just its fingernail but its whole hand landed with a loud thud on the ground completely and cleanly detached from the rest of its body.
Upon witnessing that the lich tried to call for some of his other undead on the field but sensed no response.
With an irritated look on his face the Lich looked to where his undead were and there he saw every single last one of them impaled on the ground with hundreds of purple magic arrows.
The lich stared at the sight with a stupefied look on his face and so he failed to notice the arrow flying directly at his forehead.
It bounced off of the lich’s auto magic barrier leaving a large crack in it.
Only then did he realize that he had almost been shot.
His face crumpled up in anger as he levitated from the dragon’s back.
The dragon swooped down towards the oni and dark elf with its mouth wide open with flames on the verge of spewing out, but before the flames could leave its mouth the oni jumped up and slammed his left hand holding the orc’s axe that he pick up while the lich was being shot at upwards into the dragon’s chin knocking its mouth upwards launching it’s flame breathe through the clouds then while its neck was wide open the oni swung his left hand holding his sword at the dragon’s neck completely cleaving through it.
The dragon’s decapitated head landed on the ground with a thud much louder than the one its arm made, but before the oni could rejoice in victory, a large shadow completely engulfed the trial grounds.
The oni, elf and even Ziro looked up to see what was making the shadow; all 3 of them gaged in surprise because what they saw was the lich launching a meteor at them.
Ziro scuffed and pulled out a bag of blue peanuts
The oni poured a third of his mana into the orc’s axe and threw it at the meteor with all his might.
It bounced off the meteor only leaving a crack too small for anyone to notice unless they were deliberately searching for it.
“Well shit. I surrender.”
After the oni spoke he got teleported outside the trial grounds
The elf smiled, pointed his bow up at the meteor and started charging a magic arrow.
“Hahehahahahahaha! IT’S NO USE! What do you think your puny arrows are going to do against my meteor?!”
The Dark elf ignored the lich’s shouting and kept charging his arrow until the arrow turned from purple to black with a faint purple outline; only then did the elf fire his arrow.
When the arrow and meteor met, the world went silent for a split second before a large explosion lit up the skies of the whole demon continent.
The lich very expectedly got vaporised in the explosion.
Now the only candidates left on the trial grounds were the dark elf and Ziro who was still sitting comfortably inside his barrier.
“Now that we’re the only ones left are you still going to keep hiding inside that barrier?”
Ziro stood up from the black box and started clapping.
“You are exactly as strong as I thought you would be.
Everything has gone according to my predictions.”
“…Are you saying that you predicted me defeating the others?”
“Correct; now the only thing left is your imminent surrender”
“I Have no reason or intention of surrendering to you; if anything you’re the one who’s more likely to surrender; a barrier that durable has to have a time limit since it was summoned from a scroll and not a magic artifact, and since you hid in that barrier the moment the fight started instead of fighting yourself clearly means you lack the confidence to do so, so the moment that barrier’s time limit runs out you’re finished.”
“…”
“Tell you what, if you surrender now you get to live, but if you make me wait for that barrier’s time limit to run out while you hide inside it, you’re dead the second it does.”
After hearing all that the dark elf said, Ziro pulled a black key out of his storage artifact, turned his back to the elf and placed the key inside the keyhole on the black box he was sitting on before.
The dark elf tilted his head.
When Ziro turned the key, the black box completely burst apart; the pieces all shrank and flew towards Ziro’s outstretched left hand.
By the time they landed on his hand they had already attached themselves to each other forming a smaller version of the black box.
In place of where the big black box was were two female elves of differing age completely gagged and tied up; the older one was a regular elf while the younger one was a dark elf with slightly lighter skin than the average dark elf; they were the dark elf’s wife and daughter.
“YOU! HOW DARE YOU!”
Ziro ignored the dark elf’s shouts of anger and pulled a machete from his storage artifact and placed it against the younger elf’s neck.
“You have until the count of five to surrender.”
The dark elf instantly charged and shot 12 arrows at the barrier under a second to no effect.
“One.”
The dark elf charged another arrow this time with twice as much mana as the one that blew up the meteor.
“Two.”
He fired it at the barrier.
BOOOM
When the dust cleared the barrier was still completely intact but the ground around it was gone.
“Three.”
The dark elf tried to charge another arrow, but he was out of mana.
“Four.”
He hurled himself across the massive crater separating him and the barrier slamming is bow into it.
To the dark elf’s surprise, the tip of the bow actually pierced a small hole in the barrier getting stuck in the process.
The dark elf looked up and saw Ziro’s face looking amused.
Ziro raised the machete above the elf girl’s head ready to slash down.
“Fi-”
“I surrender.”
After surrendering the dark elf got teleported from the trial grounds or from what was left of it.
Immediately after the dark elf vanished Ziro’s barrier’s time limit ran out and the barrier disappeared.
“Exactly as I had planned.”
===
“And that’s how the current demon lord came to power.
Any questions?”
After hearing the story, some of the other students started to chatter amongst themselves.
“What kind of scumbag kidnaps someone’s family just to win a fight?!”
“Right? The Empress should’ve just finished him off.”
“Was what he did even that bad though?”
“What are you saying?!”
“If it’s to become the ruler of your whole race, isn’t something as insignificant as kidnapping two people a small price to pay?”
“Tch, I’d expect nothing less from you nobles.”
“Don’t lump us all together with him!”
“Yeah! No noble worth their name would ever stoop so low.”
After listening to the conversations of the others for a while, Zary turned to me and asked:
“Whadoya think?”
“That Mira’s father is a bit impressive for planning all that.”
“Don’t let her hear you say that. She doesn’t seem to like him much.”
“Is that why she left when the va-….. when the teacher brought him up?”
“Probably.”
“So, what do you think of that whole trial?”
“I think it should have been me, not him!
If it was me I’d’ve fought them all instead of hiding behind a barrier.”
“Well only the lich and orc seemed to have died so, you might run into the other two in the future.”
The bum saintess opened her mouth from where she was laying and spoke.
“That lich’s main body is definitely still hiding somewhere. Those fuckers never show up in their main body; you gotta find their main hideout where them and all their stuff is and blow it up along with them to kill them for good.”
Zary’s smile grew wider.
