Chapter 6
Chapter 6
After history class ended the three of us were walking to Mana class.
Well, Zary and I were walking; the bum saintess who fell back asleep was being caried on Zary’s back.
Off in the distance there was a male student with shoulder length blonde hair glaring in our direction or rather in Zary’s direction.
“Someone you know?”
“Someone not worth fighting; just ignore him.”
From what I know about Zary so far, the only people she won’t try to fight are those weaker than her.
“I don’t remember seeing him in our class.”
“He’s from class 1B.”
“??? There’s more than one class one?”
“Yeah, there’s four.
How don’t you know this? Didn’t the principal or someone tell you anything when you signed in?”
“Not really.”
“Sigh. Well basically there’s classes 1A to 1D and we’re obviously in 1A.”
“There aren’t class competitions between the 4 classes are there?”
“Yeah; those competitions are one of the few ways for students to make money in this school.”
“?”
“We only get one meal a day for free and this school sells basically everything you can find in a city, only problem is everything is overpriced as fuck so any money brought into the school at the beginning of September will all be spent before the end of the month.
Outside this Academy, 5 bronze is enough to get you a loaf of bread, while in here its 5 silvers!
That’s literally 100x as much, and that’s just bread; the cheapest wine outside already costs 12 gold and in here its 1,200!”
“So, those empty wine bottles I saw under that bed?”
Zary glared at the bum on her back.
“Seriously just how much gold did you take from the church to have been able to afford all that? And why’d you spend it all in one month?!”
“Not my fault they left all those offering boxes out in the open.”
“So, you were awake; get off.”
“Zary tried to put her down, but she tightened her grip around Zary’s neck and waist.”
“…Tch.”
“Do churches make that much?”
“Nobles pay tons for holy healing magic”
“Doesn’t that mean the whole church is broke since she ran away with all their money and blew it all in one month?”
“…”
“…”
“Ain’t like I’m the only one in that church who can heal people; I’m just the best at it.”
“You still stole all their money though.”
“I did all the healing, so all the money is mine!”
“…”
“…”
“Anyways, Zary I got a few coins from the dungeon if ever need any”
“A few my ass! You definitely cleaned the whole dungeon out!”
“It’s fine Kurai; I still have a few coins left ever from the last class competition myself.”
“If you still got coins, why aren’t you handing it over?!”
“What was the last competition about?”
“I KNOW YOU CUNTS CAN HEAR ME!”
“It was about which class could kill the most monsters in a dungeon in 15 minutes.”
The bum saintess bit Zary’s neck.
“ah!”
Zary fell to her knees and the bum saintess finally got off of her back.
“Hmph”
She walked off leaving Zary and me behind
I looked down at Zary.
“Why’d you blush though?”
Cough
“You must’ve been seeing things.”
“Your ears are still red though.”
She immediately covered her ears and stood back up.
“You were asking about the class competitions, right?”
“…Right so this school has dungeons?”
“Yup.”
“Why’d that saintess leave the Academy grounds to find one yesterday instead of just going to one of the ones here then?”
“Cause the ones here don’t have any coins in them; plus, anyone who successfully sneaks out of the school gets one gold coin and loses two if they get caught.
She probably collected it yesterday while we were choosing your classes.”
“With that principal who randomly pops out anywhere around is it even possible to sneak out without being seen by her?”
“Probably not, but we only have to avoid the teachers’ eyes to get the coin not hers.”
“Is sneaking out 100,000 times in a row not an option?”
“You only get one gold coin a day no matter how many times you sneak out, while you lose 2 every single time you get caught.”
“Tch. Stingy”
“Exactly what Sena said.”
“…Let’s just get to class.”
“Pffft sure~.”
And so, we made it to mana class.
When Zary opened the door what I saw inside was another outdoor class with everyone standing near a river except for a bald lady who was standing on the water.
“She the teacher?”
“Yup.
Ms. Ryolin.”
The bald lady started to speak.
“In Swordsmanship nothing is more important than your stance.
Any good swordsman worth their sword should be able to stand on anything, so today you learn how to stand on water.
Wrap some of your mana lightly around your shoes then try stepping on the water.”
A few of them tried doing what the teacher said, but none of them got it on the first try; some immediately fell into the water while other slowly sank like they were in quicksand.
*cough* *cough* cough “Damn it, is this even possible?”
“Almost had it that time”
Achoo “This time for sure”
Over the next five minutes the closest anyone came to succeeding was when that dude who the bum saintess smacked upside the head back in the wooden sword class actually managed to stand on the water for 4 whole seconds before falling in.
After everyone else kept failing, Mira who was sitting on a rock a few feet away from the others finally got up, walked towards the water and stood on top of it without the slightest bit of visible effort.
Everyone stopped and looked at her, some in shock, some in frustration and some in resignation.
“As expected of the demon lord’s daughter”
Mira sharply turned her head in the direction of the person who said that and glared at him.
He flinched and subconsciously stepped back, then she turned her head away.
..Should’ve been me not him.
“Congratulations. Since you’re the first one who succeeded I’ll give you a silver coin”
The teacher tossed a silver coin and Mira caught it.
After seeing that the other students’ eyes started to glint and the bum saintess who was laying in the grass got up and immediately ran to the water without stopping until she was standing beside Mira on the water staring at the teacher with a look basically screaming where’s my coin.
“Where’s my coin?”
Well, if she’s just gonna say it out loud
The teacher tilted her bald head for a few seconds before responding.
“This isn’t a class competition but sure why not?
The next 10 people who can do it gets one silver coin each.”
After hearing that everyone seems to have gotten motivated.
Are they all that broke already?
“Every mickle makes a muckle.”
After Zary said that, she jumped from right beside me and landed on her feet standing on the water right beside the saintess.
After collecting her silver coin, she turned in my direction and shouted.
“What’re you waiting for? Come on over!”
“Damn it there’re only 9 coins left; it’ll be 8 when that red head goes over, we have to hurry!”
The other students started trying even harder and 2 of them actually managed to pull it off though it seems they can only stand in place on the water and can’t take a single step.
“Tch as long as you’re standing, I guess.”
The teacher tossed 2 coins at them.
After noticing that I still hadn’t gotten on the water, Zary jumped back over to me.
“What’s wrong?”
“…….I don’t know how to use mana.”
“…”
“…”
“That’s a joke, right?”
“…”
“..But you broke Sena’s barrier, you destroyed a dungeon and kept up with me during our spar!...Though come to think of it you didn’t put any mana into the wooden sword that time.
If what you said is true and you really don’t know how to use mana, how are you so strong?”
“I’ll tell you later.”
While it seems like no ones paying attention to our conversation, I’d rather not take any chances with the secret to my strength just in case.
“It’s not a divine art, is it?”
“…”
“…”
Zary’s face bloomed into the biggest smile I’ve seen from her since we’ve met.
She started approaching me slowly still with that smile on her face; I slowly started backing away from her until I hit a wall.
She slammed both her hands against the wall on both sides of my head with her face just a few CMs from mine.
“We never did get to finish that fight in the wooden sword class, did we?”
“Didn’t we agree that you won?”
“If you think you’re getting out of finishing our fight with such nonsense especially now that I know you’ve got something special up your sleeves, you’re more delusional than a person who tries to cross a flashlight bridge.”
So, this world has flashlights too
