Chapter 29: The Past and the Secret
Alpha Fred coughed. “I think it’s time for us to rest. Nathanael, you may talk with Lisa and get to know each other in the living room.”
“Thank you, Alpha Fred.” I stood to respect him as he left the room.
Then Cam let out a sigh and said to Lisa, “I hope your father will accept Nate. He is a better man than me. Your brother is also too much.”
Lisa didn’t react. She held my hand; her hand was cold. “Let’s go elsewhere to talk.”
“Lisa, I hope you don’t get mad at me. I have never intended to humiliate you. I’m sorry,” Cam said.
Lisa pouted at Cam. Her eyes weren’t as warm as she stared at me. “As we have nothing in common and it was only a political marriage, I have no regrets about you canceling our agreement. But,” she stopped in the middle, “the only thing I regret the most is you didn’t come sooner to avoid this. I dislike being rejected publicly.”
“I have no other excuse. I’m guilty, indeed. Do you want some retribution? If you want more dowries, I will give Nate more jewelry to give to you.”
Lisa pulled her hand from my hand. Then she clenched her hand on her lap. “Do you think the Shadows are poor? We don’t need your jewelry! I don’t need your jewelry!”
Cam touched his nape. “I have never thought your family is poor. Please, don’t think that way. I only feel guilty about what I did to you.”
“But you didn’t want to fix it. You pushed your best friend to resolve it for you. What a great friend you are!”
I let out a long sigh to hear Lisa’s sarcasm. “Lisa, can we talk?”
Lisa nodded. “Sure!”
I glanced at Cam. ‘Don’t worry. I will persuade Lisa to forgive you.’
‘Thanks, Bro.’
Lisa and I left the dining room. I thought she would guide me to the living room, but she walked out and led me to her house instead.
“Lisa, your father asked us to talk in the living room.”
“And let his spies hear what we will say? No, thanks.”
Before Lisa could open the door with her key, Susanne opened the door and bowed. “Miss Lisa, Delta Nathanael.”
“Susanne, you can rest. I don’t need further help tonight.”
Susanne nodded. “Yes, miss. Have a good rest.” She stole a glance at me and grinned.
I caught Lisa’s hand, but she pulled her hand and walked swiftly to her bedroom. “Lisa, we need to talk.”
“Yes, but after I change my dress.” She entered the bedroom. “Please wait inside. I won’t be long.”
I nodded, then sat on a couch. Lisa closed the door and locked it. I frowned. Would we talk a secret, so she needed to lock the door to ensure no one could eavesdrop? But then, Lisa startled me. She undressed as if she did a striptease.
Lisa removed her white high heels first. Then she lifted her legs on a small chair and pulled her stockings inch by inch, showing me her slender legs. I gulped. Did she indeed expect me to bed her tonight? Then she answered my unspoken question by unzipping her dress and showing me her white and sexy back.
I took a deep breath. Seeing Lisa now with only black underwear was testing my self-control. “Lisa, don’t do this.”
Lisa turned her body and smiled. She licked her lips slowly, then removed her bra to show her pretty bosoms. My hands were itchy to touch her. Finally, Lisa removed her last piece of clothing—her panties. I stood and approached her.
She circled her hands around my neck. “Kiss me.”
Then I kissed her. It was my first deep kiss with a woman. I only wanted to kiss her gently, but Lisa licked my lips and inserted her tongue. I moaned as she knew well how to turn me on. But before I crossed the line, I kissed her forehead and moved a few steps away.
I took a blanket and wrapped it around her body. Her eyes stared at me, questioning me. “We need to talk,” I said.
“About what?” She asked, playing with her hair; she seduced me without words.
“About what Bill said.”
Lisa moved her body a little, dropping the blanket to show her perfect naked body to me. “Don’t you want me?”
“I do.”
“Then what do you’re waiting for? Come and get me.” She lifted her chin and blinked an eye, challenging and seducing me simultaneously.
“Is that what you want?”
“Yes.”
I let out a long sigh. “I will do that, but after we have talked.”
Lisa said nothing. She turned her body so I could only see her back. “What do you want to know?”
“What happened to you and your ex? Why did Bill call your ex a scum?”
Lisa was quiet. She hugged herself, took the blanket, and then covered her body. “I want to forget it.”
“Is it that bad?” I approached her and sat next to her. I touched her face and looked at her. Her eyes dimmed. “If it’s a dark secret, you don’t need to tell me. I don’t want to know.”
“Are you sure?”
I nodded. “Yes, because I have fallen for you. Your past is meaningless. What is important is our future.”
Then Lisa bent her head on her knees and covered it with both hands. Her shoulders moved a little, but she didn’t make any sound.
“My dear one? What’s wrong?” Did I say something wrong? I messed my hair. Uh, I didn’t know what to do.
She still said nothing. Then finally, she whimpered, then sobbing. I pulled her into my embrace and caressed her hair.
“I’m sorry. I won’t ask anymore. You are safe with me.”
But Lisa wailed and wetted my shirt with tears. I kissed her forehead and dried her tears with my kiss. After a while, she finally could calm herself. Only a few sobs left. I stroked her back as if I were taking care of a pup.
Then she looked at me, biting her lower lip. “I’m sorry for dampening your shirt.”
“No need to apologize. Do you feel better now?”
She nodded. “I don’t deserve you.” Lisa bent her face so she didn’t need to look at me.
“Why? You are everything I want.” I lifted her chin.
Her eyes glistened with tears. “I’m a ruined one. You must find a good woman.” She was silent for a few seconds. “Please leave me.”
“No, I won’t! You are my mate. I won’t find someone else. I only want you.”
“Even if you know what happened?”
I looked at her face. She still didn’t want to glance at me. “I don’t know what happened in your past, but I know you are mine,” I pulled her head to lean on my chest, “and I want you—only you.”
