Chapter 50: The Messed Up Memory
~ Lisa ~
After having his pup, Cameron suddenly changed. Why did he hurt me? Did he only want my body? I massaged my temple because I suddenly got a severe headache. Susanne knocked on the door and glanced at me.
“Miss Lisa, are you alright?”
I only sighed as an answer. “Cameron denied my pup as his.”
Susanne approached me and asked, “What did you say?”
“What? To Cameron?”
“No, I mean, what did you just say to me?”
“Oh, Cameron denied my pup as his.” I moaned and put my hand on my forehead. “How can it be? We spent hours mating. How could he forget that?”
“Miss Lisa—”
“I love him, Susanne! But he wanted to give me to Nate. Imagine that!”
“Miss Lisa, but it’s the right thing to do.”
I frowned and glanced at Susanne. “What did you say?”
“It’s the right thing to do. I don’t know what happened to you, but the one who mated with you was Delta Nathanael, not Beta Cameron. The pup is not Beta Cameron’s pup.”
“Out! I don’t want to see you!” I glared at Susanne.
“Miss Lisa, something terribly wrong must happen to you. You love Delta Nathanael. Remember, you asked me to send him some shirts? You said you wanted him to look his best at dinner?”
“Out!”
“Please, miss. I’m always loyal to you. Even if you throw me out of the pack, I will keep telling the truth. Delta Nathanael is the first man you ever let approach you. I know you mated with him that night.”
I sat on the bed. The throbbing in my head was unbearable now. But I must listen to Susanne. The more I thought about it, Susanne was right. She served me not long after I experienced the tragedy. She was my fiercest supporter.
“Miss Lisa, do you remember someone wanted to kill your pup?”
“When? Ten years ago?”
“No, miss. It’s yesterday. An Iota came with a food supplement for you, but none of us knew him. Then I went to our Theta to check the pill. It was an abortion pill, not a food supplement.”
I gasped; I was too shocked to know that. “Did you tell me yesterday what had happened?”
“I did, miss.”
“Why can’t I remember that?”
Susanne kneeled on the floor and held my hand. “Miss, I swear to the Highest One I didn’t lie! There is no benefit to lie to you. I have been serving you for ten years, and to me, you are not only my superior, but more like a family. I will fight for your happiness, miss.”
“Susanne ….”
“I think someone tried to delete your memory and made a mess so you can’t remember correctly. That’s why you can think of Beta Cameron as the one you love. While in reality, you love Delta Nathanael.”
“Who will do that? Who wants to hurt me?”
Susanne bent her head. She didn’t stare at me, but at the floor.
“Susanne, who do you think wants to hurt me?”
She still didn’t want to look at me. But then she said slowly, “Who do you think will get the most benefit if your memory is messy?”
I thought for a while. For sure, it was not Cameron. He had already had a mistress, and it was only a political marriage for him. I knew it wasn’t Nate. If Susanne was right, he was the one who suffered the most because of my ruined memory. It happened here in my pack. Then I gasped. “No!”
“Miss?”
“How can he do that to me?”
“Miss Lisa, calm yourself ….” Susanne stood and held my hand. “Please, you are carrying a pup now. Don’t distress yourself.”
“How can it be that my father wanted to harm me? My father ….”
Susanne shook her head. “Don’t say that, miss. If someone hears you, they may report it to Alpha Fred.”
“What should I do? Cameron must think I was crazy!” I sank myself into bed, too tired to think more. “Nate …. Cameron is his foster brother and best friend. He must tell Nate what happened.” I touched my belly. “My pup, don’t be mad at Mommy. I will meet with your daddy. I will make things right.” Then I stood and walked to the door.
“Miss Lisa, where will you go?”
“To Nate. I want to explain everything.”
Susanne nodded. “Be careful! If Alpha Fred knows, he won’t let you go.”
I bit my lower lip. Susanne was right. But I could pretend I knew nothing. I would tell him I wanted to meet Cameron. He would permit me. “Susanne?”
“Yes, Miss Lisa?”
“Please pray for me.”
Susanne smiled at me. “Always, miss. Be careful!”
I went to my father’s house to let him know I wanted to meet Cameron. He tapped the table and stared at me.
“Why do you want to meet Cameron?”
I pretended to blush and smiled. “I miss him, Father, and want to talk to him.”
“Only talk?”
I bent my head. “Well, I have already had his pup. So, maybe I want to kiss him too.”
My father only chuckled. “Okay, I was once young too. Go to the Wild Wolves Pack and enjoy your time with your mate. But remember, you will mate with him in three days. Don’t bore him.”
I nodded. “Don’t worry, Father. I will go there with Susanne. So, if I need something, she can help me.”
“Good. Take care.”
I walked to the door when my father called me, “Lisa?”
“Yes, Father?”
“Have you thought about what name you will give to your pup?”
I smiled and rubbed my stomach. “Not yet. I want my mate to give me the name.” Then I shrugged. “Besides, I don’t know yet if the pup will be a boy or a girl.”
“You can ask Cameron to choose a boy’s and a girl’s name. So in two months, after giving birth to the pup, you won’t trouble yourself to choose a name in the last minute.”
“Thank you, Father. I will ask him to do that.” I deliberately didn’t mention Cameron’s name because he was not my mate. As I didn’t know why my father ruined my memory, I was alerted when talking with him. “I will go now, Father. If I need to spend the night there, is that okay?”
“It’s not a good idea. Don’t give Cameron too much access to you before the marking ceremony.”
I let out a sigh. “Okay, Father. I will follow your advice.”
