Chapter 65: The Truth
Cameron wrinkled his forehead. “Go to your pack? Why? You’re just here for a day. It’s even only a night.”
I shrugged. “I miss Susanne, my maid. That’s why I want to bring her here. Besides, I feel awkward alone here without someone I know well. I promise I won’t be there for long.”
“I see. You can always come to me whenever you need anything. I’m your Alpha,” He stared at me, “and your mate too. You will get to know our people in no time. I will bring you to visit our people. What do you think?”
“It’s thoughtful, and I’ll love that. But meanwhile, I will have Susanne first with me. Then we can visit our people here.” Later, I sighed. “I need to rest for a few minutes. Are you okay with me going to my pack?”
“Sure! Why not? It’s your pack, anyway. If you need me to accompany you, I will go with you too.”
I was shivered to imagine Cameron finding out about Anna. I wouldn’t let them meet again! So I smiled and shook my head. “No need. Mimi will accompany me, so I will be fine.”
“Okay then.” Cameron stood and kissed my forehead. “Don’t be too tired. If you need anything, you can ask Mimi to help you. If you need me, you can contact me too.”
I inhaled and nodded. “Yes.”
Then I left Cameron and went back to our bedroom. I sat on the bed for a few minutes. Finally, I knew the truth! The one who spent the night with me wasn’t Cameron. Last night, the one who mated with me had a calloused hand. Then who mated with me last night?
Suddenly, I remembered what Mimi said. Could it be Nate? But why did I see Cameron last night? I shook my head and let out a heavy sigh. Recalling last night, I wore a blindfold. I might only imagine that it was Cameron. But why did Cameron let Nate do that? I was his mate, not Nate’s!
My temple throbbed hard. I stroked it and took a deep breath. Mimi entered the room and immediately sat on the floor near my bed.
“What’s wrong, Luna? Do you need any help? I can massage your head.”
I shook my head. “No, I’m okay. Is everything ready?”
Mimi nodded. She whispered, “Your dowry has been ready. She is sleeping.”
“Sleeping?” I asked, raising my eyebrow. What if she awoke and screamed?
“Well, not naturally, Luna,” Mimi said, still whispering. “I think one of the guards might drug her as she lay on the floor, unmoving even when I talked with the guards.”
“Good! She won’t be a problem, then. Let’s go!”
Before we reached the front door, Melanie called me, “Luna, Psi Mimi.”
“Melanie, Mimi will go with me to my pack. I’ll return soon with my former maid. She’ll serve me here as my maid too. I hope you won’t be disappointed as my former maid has been like my family to me. I need her.”
Melanie nodded. “I understand, Luna.”
“You can still serve as the housemaid, but my maid will be my former maid.”
“Yes, Luna,” Melanie said. Then she opened the door for us. “Safe travel, Luna.” Then she nodded at Mimi too. “Psi Mimi, have a good trip too.”

My heart beat fast when I heard Lisa would visit her pack. Would she bring Anna with her? But how could I check it? Then Melanie knocked on my door.
“Alpha, Luna and Psi Mimi left already. They will go to the Luna’s pack.”
I nodded. “Yes, I know.”
Melanie stared at me. “Alpha, will you follow them?”
I shook my head. “I can’t do that. We just had the marking ceremony yesterday. If Lisa spotted me following her, she would be suspicious. I need to keep my distance.”
“But what about Anna?” Melanie asked. She voiced my concern because it was what I was worried about.
“I would ask my spy to find info about Anna.”
Melanie stared at the floor. “Luna wanted to have her former maid back, Alpha. I won’t be her maid any longer.”
“It is okay. If everything goes well, you may not need to serve her anymore.”
Melanie’s eyes widened as she glanced at me. “I don’t get it. W-why?”
If I shared my plan, it might burden Melanie. But if I told her nothing, she might wonder. I couldn’t let her ask Lisa herself. So I only said half of the truth. “Well, I have a plan regarding Lisa. Besides, Nate is her real mate, not me.”
Melanie nodded. “I see.” She said nothing for a while. “I was shocked to see your marking ceremony. I could feel how devastated Anna would be if she were there. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that she wasn’t there.”
It hurt my heart because I knew how it hurt Anna. Yet her sacrifice would be worthy, and hopefully, we didn’t need to keep the drama for too long. “Please go back to your work. If I have any news about Anna, I will let you know.”
“Yes, Alpha. Thank you! I’m worried about her. She’s a good friend, even more like a family to me.”
“I know. I hope we can find her soon and set her free. But we can’t ruin the peace treaty between our pack and Lisa’s pack, either.”
“But I still don’t get it why Luna wanted to send Anna to her pack. Anna is our pack member. Her place is here with us.” Then she gasped. “Unless ….”
“Unless what?” I asked.
“Unless Luna fell in love with you. She may be jealous or mad at Anna. Considering Anna stopped the first marking ceremony attempt.”
I let out a sigh. “It may be a pride. How could an Omega beat a Delta to get an Alpha’s attention? But I may be wrong. It’s possible Lisa has been drugged, so she can’t think clearly.”
“Drugged?!” Melanie gasped. “But ….” She didn’t finish her words. Yet from her eyes, I could see apprehension formed in her mind. “No wonder she can’t recognize Beta Nate as her real mate.”
