Chapter 75: Leaving
I thought Lisa would object to going with Nate. Yet she stared at Nate for a few seconds as if it were the first time she looked at him. Then she accepted his hand. They left the building hand in hand. Maybe after hearing what had happened, it would soften Lisa’s heart. Even if the drug effect would still last, knowing what had happened surely would change her mind.
I pitied her because her father was the one who betrayed her. She could have a happy life with Nate, but his father’s interference changed her life. Then I glanced at Bill. He was Lisa’s brother, but he was also responsible for agreeing with their father’s plan. I didn’t know how far Bill’s role was in the matter, but for sure, he wasn’t innocent either.
Thinking about the whole thing, I wondered if we’d better leave now. Maybe Nate and Lisa only needed time and a lot of talks alone. I hoped they could reconcile because regardless of what had happened, they would have a pup.
I leaned my head to Cameron’s chest and whispered, “Let’s go. I want to rest in our pack.”
Cameron nodded and lifted me into his embrace. I snuggled my head into his chest and sighed. I felt safe in his embrace. However, we couldn’t leave yet.
Bill blocked our way. “Not so fast! I won’t allow you to leave. Unless you leave Anna here, I won’t let you go,” he said, standing before the door so we couldn’t pass.
“Be reasonable, Bill,” Cameron said in an icy tone. “If you don’t want to let us go, I will fight you. I’m sure I can beat you down. But it’ll humiliate you if you lose in your own pack, won’t it?”
“Not if I can prevent it.” Bill creased his forehead.
“You can call anyone, but I won’t keep my mouth shut. Everyone will know your family is the one to blame. It will expose your father and your sister too in this matter. Is that what you want?” Cameron asked. “Not to mention, I will tell everyone how you covet my woman until you almost raped her. I’m sure the Elders of your pack will be interested in hearing the details. Maybe they will start thinking of choosing someone else as a new Alpha.”
“Shut up!” Bill glared. “You have no right to say that. Anna is mine!”
“At what point? Anna is my pack member. She is my mistress. Currently, she is pregnant with my pup. Attacking and attempting to rape a pregnant she-wolf is a grave offense. Even if you want to kill me here, my people will know and attack your pack. Do you want to start a war?”
“You!” Bill pointed his finger at Cameron, but he said nothing.
Then Cameron walked forward and said firmly, “Step aside. I won’t say it twice!”
Bill finally stepped aside and let Cameron bring me with him. Melanie followed behind Cameron. When we were outside the building, some pack members of the Hurricane Dawn Pack spotted us, but they only bowed and let them pass through.
At the gate, two guards approached and greeted Cameron. “Alpha Cameron, it’s a surprise to see you here.”
Cameron nodded. “I don’t have a lot of time, but I’ll appreciate it if you open the gate.”
The guards glanced at each other and nodded. “Yes, Alpha Cameron. Have a safe trip.”
After the gate opened, Cameron and Melanie left. They walked farther until they reached a parking lot. Melanie opened the front door of the car and Cameron sat Anna there. After Melanie took the backseat, Cameron drove back to their pack.
“Cam, Nate is still there. I wonder if it’s better we wait for him,” I said. With me leaving the Hurricane Dawn Pack, I was sure Bill wouldn’t treat Nate nicely. I wanted nothing bad to happen to him.
Yet Cameron only smiled and shook his head. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. “Nate can take care of himself. Besides, he won’t go. He has many things to discuss with Lisa.”
I said nothing, as it was true. That was when my stomach growled. Cameron glanced at me, and both of us laughed. Melanie also laughed when she realized the growl came from my belly.
“Our pup is hungry. Let’s stop first at a restaurant. We need to feed our pup.” Cameron grinned.
“Good idea!” Then Melanie coughed. “Uh, Alpha, can you stop here? You two may need time to catch up. I feel like being a third wheel.”
I shook my head. “Oh, Mel, don’t feel that way. Thank you for coming.”
Cameron didn’t comment. After a while, he grinned again at me.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing.” He was still driving. After reaching a gas station, he said, “We will fill the fuel first. Someone will pick you up and send you home, Melanie.”
Melanie shook her head and waved her hand frantically to refuse. “Oh, I can go to the bus station, Alpha. No need to ask someone to fetch me.”
“Nope. You have helped me a lot. I can’t leave you just like that. At least I will feel better knowing you are in safe hands.”
Melanie tilted her head to the side. “Uh, who did you ask to pick me up, Alpha? Do I know them?”
“For sure. He will treat you well. He promised me.”
Melanie furrowed her forehead. Then she widened her eyes. “Don’t tell me you asked—”
Before she finished her words, a car moved behind us and honked. Cameron grinned and raised his thumb.
“Your driver is here.”
I turned my body to see who would pick Melanie. When I saw Jack, I gasped. “Jack Black?!”
Cameron opened the door. Before he reached the back door, Jack moved faster and opened the door for Melanie.
“Let’s go!” Jack said.
“What are you doing here? I won’t go with you.” Melanie glared at Jack.
“Hey, don’t be mad at me. I only do what my Alpha asks me.” Then he glanced at Cameron. “Brother, tell her it’s you who asked me to bring her home.”
I nodded. “It’s true, Melanie. Besides, you said you wanted to give Anna and me time. You will help us a lot if you go home with my brother.”
Melanie pouted, but then she stomped her foot on the ground. “Fine! But only because our Alpha asked me.” Then Melanie and Jack walked to Jack’s car.
