Chapter 76: At Home
We waited until Jack’s car passed Cameron’s first. Jack honked and waved his hand, then left us. I was sure Melanie and Jack would quarrel along the way. I shook my head and smiled. After paying for the fuel, Cameron drove again.
“What?” he asked. “You smiled after seeing Jack.”
“No, it’s just I feel weird to see Melanie and Jack because he often bullies her. I was worried as you asked him to fetch Melanie.”
“No need to worry. I made him promise not to bully Melanie anymore. Besides ….” Cameron winked his eyes.
“Besides what?” I curiously asked as Cameron hid something from me.
“Do you know why Jack bullied Melanie?”
I shook my head. “No. Why?”
“Because he likes her.”
“What?!” I gaped, as it was quite an unexpected answer. “You must be joking! They are like a cat and a mouse, you know.”
“Jack didn’t know how to approach Melanie. He was clueless about expressing his feelings to her. That’s why he loved to tease her. But he admitted it had been out of hand. He has never wanted to harm or hurt her or you.” Cameron stopped the car at the side of the street. He stared at me. “Are you okay?”
I nodded. “I’m fine.” After shrugging, I continued my words, “I was scared when I was in the Hurricane Dawn Pack with Bill, but you came on time.” I closed my eyes and bit my lower lip. My body shivered as I recalled what had happened. “If you were late even a minute, Bill would rape me.” Then I sobbed as it was quite terrifying. “I’m sorry ….” Then I got a hiccup.
Cameron adjusted his seat so he could have more space, then removed my seatbelt. He pulled my body and sat me on his lap. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me to rest my head on his shoulder. “Don’t say sorry. You did nothing wrong.” He stroked my back and whispered, “I got you, my love. You are safe now. No one will harm you.”
I whimpered and hugged him. He stroked my hair and kissed my forehead.
“Everything will be okay. I will protect you.”
We stayed like that for a few minutes until I stopped crying. He touched my cheek and stared into my eyes.
“Better?”
I nodded. “Thank you.”
“Now, we will go home. You will soak your body in warm water, and I will spoil you. Then you can have dinner. Afterward, we will enjoy the night together.”
It sounded like music to my ear. But then, I let out a heavy sigh. “What about Lisa?”
Cameron raised his eyebrow. “What about her?”
“She is your Luna. We can’t just act as if nothing had happened.” I bit my lower lip. “What about the peace treaty? You have sacrificed a lot for the peace and alliance between the packs. Because of me, you must ruin everything.”
He shook his head, and his eyes were hard. “Don’t feel guilty. You are not the wrong one. It’s Lisa and Bill who did it first. If I want to take the blame, their father is guilty too for drugging Lisa. If he didn’t do it, Lisa wouldn’t be my mate. None of this would happen.”
“B-but—”
Cameron stopped my word by placing his thumb on my lips. “It doesn’t matter. No need to burden yourself to think about it. Don’t stress yourself.” Then he rubbed my belly. “Remember our pup. You must stay happy and comfortable.”
I nodded. He was right. So I snuggled my head into his chest and inhaled his scent. I felt much better afterward, knowing I was safe with him.
“I will face the Elders. If they contradict me, I will do anything to defend you.” Then Cameron put me back in my seat, placed the seatbelt again, and drove to our pack.
I was asleep as I was exhausted emotionally. Feeling a whisper in my ear, I awoke to find myself on the bed. I yawned and smiled to see Cameron. “What time is it now? Sorry, I fell asleep.”
“It’s ten p.m. You must eat first. Come!” He offered his hand.
I held Cameron’s hand, but my body couldn’t move. So, he lifted me up from the bed and carried me to the dining room. Mimi was there. When she saw me, Mimi smiled and pulled a chair.
“Anna, it’s good to see you here. I hope you and our Alpha will enjoy the dinner.” She bowed her head.
“Psi Mimi, I ….” I was speechless because she was my superior. Yet, she was here and acted as if my position was higher than hers.
Then she kneeled and held my hand. “I’m sorry …. I shouldn’t do what Luna Lisa asked.” Mimi bent her head. “I was stupid and blinded because of a glimpse of power. I’m sorry!” Her tears dampened her cheeks. “I put you in grave danger.” Then she bowed her body in Cameron’s direction until her head was on the floor. “Alpha, no words can express how sorry I am. I’m ready to accept any punishment.”
Cameron said nothing. “Please rise and serve us. We will talk after we finish dinner.”
Mimi nodded and bowed. “Yes, Alpha.”
Then Mimi served us as if she were our maid. I felt uneasy because of that, but Cameron only smiled and kissed my hand. “Get used to this.”
“But—”
I couldn’t utter any words, as Cameron kissed my wrist and stared at me with a hot and sexy gaze. I blushed as I knew what his stare meant. He wanted me. It was a while since the last time we mated. I missed him and our togetherness. It was not only about sex, but how he made me feel safe and comfortable within his embrace.
Mimi brought oyster as appetizer, lambchop for the main dish, and chocolate pudding for dessert. She poured red wine for Cameron and a glass of orange juice for me. After finishing my pudding, Mimi finally kneeled again, waiting for Cameron’s punishment.
“Are you ready to hear your punishment?” Cameron asked.
“Yes, Alpha.”
Mimi’s face was serene. I admired her, as waiting for a punishment wasn’t an easy thing to do. Besides, placing our pack member in danger was a hideous crime in our pack. My heart was beating fast to hear what Cameron had decided for Mimi.
