Chapter 107
Xander-----
When Prince Xander declared war on the rogue king, all packs under his father were attacked by rogues. The attack was overwhelming, like being attacked by colonies of cockroaches which seem to multiply and infect all those around them.
There were so many rogues that it almost resembled the head of a hydra. As a result of killing one rogue, two more rogues will replace that rogue.
My unicorn kept telling me to get the other unicorns together and we will be able to beat this foe.
Using an irritated laugh, I asked, "How are you going to accomplish that?"? We don’t know where Clair is yet and my sister and her mate are fighting off rogues in their own pack right now.”
I replied in a huff, "I never said it would be easy, but that is how you will prevail." Once again, my unicorn huffed and faded into the background of my mind. That was fine with me, he was too bossy anyway.
As we were approaching our destination, we landed the helicopter in a field that was about five miles away from it. It was time for each of us to strip off and tie our clothes to our legs. We took off running towards the rogue kings brothers pack, with me leading the way, and I made sure to run as fast as I could. My forces were advancing on every side of this pack from all directions. If he doesn’t already know we are coming he will soon.
Once I got past his sad idea of forces, I was almost surprised at how easy it was once I got inside the pack grounds. Could this be a trap?
There were no sounds coming from the pack. I knew this was a trap when there was a deadly silence. I mind-linked the forces to stand back and be aware. As if bait for a shark, I was standing in the open. As guards stand on either side of me, I walk over to the pack house and knock on the door.
It was not surprising that no one responded. As soon as I grabbed the handle, the door popped open easily.
It was possible for me to smell my mate in various areas of this place, the first being the dungeons. As I walk silently, I notice that the doors are open to everything. Did this pack abandon its members because we are here? It is difficult for me to imagine that would be the case. It was my responsibility to have men check everywhere in triplets. I just wanted to be sure there was no setup to kill us while we were unsuspecting. It is my goal to step on each step as quietly as possible.
Despite the smell of all the blood, I am still able to detect the scent of my mate. The only thing I can do is pray that she is not injured. We never experienced a break in our bond, so I am confident she is still alive.
The lantern on the wall flickers with shadows dancing around it as I grab it. In my attempts to reach the solid concrete floor, I almost trip over a dead body. There were dead bodies all around me. Having killed his own men as well as prisoners, what type of Alpha would do such a thing to his pack?
Among the dead women were wolves, fairies, elves, and even some dragon women of various magical clans. There was no sign of my mate in any of those cells. By following her scent, I was able to find her cell. There was no longer a presence of her. In addition to the empty cell she had been in, I also smelled another scent that I was unable to place. My attention is drawn to the dead body of the Fairy King as I turn around. Having signed some alliance papers with him a few years ago, I immediately recognized him.
The king is dead, but I would like to call some of my men to come and retrieve him. It is likely that the fairies will want his dead body to celebrate and mourn his passing.
Despite the fading scent of the cot my mate had slept on, I am still able to find some comfort in the knowledge that she is still alive. The moment I put my head in my hands, I was still unable to believe what a horrible mate I had turned out to be. Shaking my head, I realize that I must remain calm emotionally and mentally in order to save my mate and pups.
Standing up, I proceed down another corridor, and I am intrigued by the light emanating from the last room on the left. I motion for a few more men to follow me into this lit room. The odor emanating from the room could kill a bear.
Several of my men kneeled down and threw up. My jaw dropped when I saw women with large bloody holes in their abdomens. It was heartbreaking to see dead babies torn apart. There were blood lakes on the floor and blood smeared on the walls. Joining the men, I throw up whatever may or may not have been in my stomach. If there was a hell this room was it.
There were test tubes and saws and I was unable to look at them any longer. I instructed the men to grab the hard drives and then we left. There were some kinds of experiments being conducted on women down here. The rogue king and his brother will be killed by me. There was a tear in my eye as I cried for these women and hoped my mate and pups were doing well. As a result of seeing this.
Considering the number of dead bodies around us, we made our way out of the dungeons as quickly as possible. After making my way out of the dungeon, I follow the scent of my mates up to the top floor. It is here that I find a suite with large doors. The suite occupies the entire floor. As I enter the bedroom portion of the suite, I observe chains affixed to the bedposts. In addition to my mate's scent, I can detect several other scents as well.
Here, Clair's scent is slightly stronger, but it was still fading as if she had left a long time ago. Is she still alive? My first action is to throw a lamp against the wall, shattering it.
It's that unicorn again, asking me something I hardly pay attention to. "Ask me" He says.
“What? Tobias?” I reply exasperated.
Tobias replies, “Why am I here?”
Angry I answer “Why are you here but to annoy me forever?"
In response, Tobias responded respectfully, "I am also a king, and do not forget that fact.". It is my duty to assist you in this war, which has barely begun. However, I am only able to assist you if you ask me. I can teleport us to the next location where your mate's scent can be found. Is that something you would like me to do? ”””
The anger I felt had to be contained. I needed Tobias's assistance. "Tobias, why didn't you tell me about this earlier? Is it possible for you to assist me in tracking my mate's scent? ”””
Tobias –
“First we need to get your men out of this room. Because we will be shifting into me. We need to keep the existence of Unicorns secret. Make certain your Lieutenant takes over and let him know this is a trap, there are rogues hidden everywhere waiting to pounce, he can handle it though.”
I have shown all the men out and have notified my lieutenant that I am pursuing something and that he should take over leadership and warn the men that there are many rogues hiding. Having said that, Tobias assumes responsibility for shifting into a unicorn. Never before have I felt such a sense of power throughout my body. There is nothing more powerful and magical than this animal. In the blink of an eye, we find ourselves in the land of fairies.
