Chapter 13
Xander –
My wolf is crazy; he cannot wait a month for the wolves to get my princess. Although it will be difficult, I will do everything in my power to find her. One of my friends has a lot of experience tracking people down. For this reason, I will follow him closely to ensure we don't make any mistakes.
Clair, you cannot shake me. I will find you and take you home with me. Clair, you might be smart, but I am smarter than you. You will become the new Queen soon, so you need to grow up and accept your responsibilities.
Clair –
I am planning to run until I smell humans; I need to mix my scent with theirs. There is no reason for me to keep running. I just need to see who I am without my brothers in order to understand who I am. Unless I know who I am and who I want to be, it is impossible for me to be a suitable mate.
There is a part of me that feels guilty for taking off, because I know that my brothers and parents will be worried about me. There is no way that I can keep away from them forever. I simply need time to mature, so that I can experience what life is like without being controlled by anyone.
My mate is a prince, and he has gotten used to getting his way in all matters, and so I would have more men trying to control me.
I decide to go behind a tree, transforming back into my human form, and then change into the clothes of the Rogues. Getting dressed, I wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. It is then that I put on a pair of sketchers tennis shoes, lacing them up, and tying them up.
To a pack wolf, rogues smell like feces and urine. Humans cannot smell rogues like wolves can. As a result, it will throw my brothers and my mate off my trail, but on the negative side, other packs will seek me out because of resemblance to a rogue.
To keep myself safe, I want to get out of the woods and walk along the freeway to keep myself away from any wolves that might want to kill me. Also, I would like to stay away from packs, in case they find out who I am and turn me in to my brothers.
The hoodie is one of my favorite items of clothing. When I wear it, the camera feeds of the security system won't see me. The prince and my brothers both have the money to search for me through surveillance feeds. One of the first places that I go to is to get hair color and to change my hair color. There's a possibility that I can find a witch and have her cast an illusion spell on me to change how I look. In addition, witches also sell potions to hide the scent of wolves, which is nice.
With my wolf running along the side of the freeway behind the trees, it only takes me a few minutes to make my way to the freeway. Upon traveling along the freeway, I notice a gas station; I hope that a town is not too far away.
I go to the gas station to see what towns are nearby. I also want a candy bar as I really like health bars. As I walked into the station, I walk over to the food court and pick up a health bar and then a bottle of water. The man behind the counter is a human; he smells like a human.
He is a young man; I am estimating he is around the age of eighteen. The human has dark brown hair, sapphire eyes, and he is cute for a human. There is not a single human on earth that can compare in looks to a werewolf, as werewolves all appear to be straight out of a fitness or fashion magazine.
As I do not want my face to be captured on the security cameras, I keep my head down at the register. After paying the cashier for my items, I ask how far I am from the nearest town. When I inquire about its location, the cashier informs me it is within five miles of the gas station. I thank him and walk away with the items I has purchased.
Despite being a werewolf in human form, they can still run much faster than the normal person. In the end, it takes me about fifteen minutes to run the five-mile stretch. I am told by him I should take the street to the left to find the town about one mile up the road. Compared to humans, a werewolf has better eyesight, he/she does not fall ill, and he/she does not have deterioration of the ocular nerves as well.
As I stroll into the town, I love the cobblestone streets, the old buildings, and the clock tower in the center. I walk into a small café where everyone seems to know each other; they are all happily talking to each other having a good time. They stare at me when I walk in; I am sure they probably don't get many strangers in town.
I sit down at a booth and order a French Dip, French fries topped with nacho cheese, and a Coke. I make certain to ask to read the town paper, of course the server asked questions like if I was visiting family, etc. I am evasive about my answers.
Server: "Hi Hun, you just traveling through?
Me: "Not sure."
Server: "Oh my do you have family here"
Me: "Not that I know of."
The server then repeats back my order to me.
Me: "Do you have a newspaper for this town, I would really like to read it if you do?"
The Server nods and brings a newspaper that is taken apart in sections.
As I wait for my food to be delivered, I browse through the rental ads in the newspaper. The one that catches my attention is a room for rent with another older woman. That would be great; I would live with a human and mostly keep my scent hidden.
As soon as I finish eating, I ask where the nearest drugstore is. In response to my question, the server smiles a sweet smile at me and tells me to go up one block to the corner barber and then turn left on that street and the pharmacy will be up two blocks on the right.
Because I am sure the town is so small and that there is little opportunity to get large tips, I leave a 20.00 tip for the server. Once I leave the tip, I am heading out the door and I say goodbye to the server. From there, I will head to the pharmacy to pick up my hair color. As for the hair color of my hair, I have decided that I am choosing to color it with a shade of auburn.
I will change the color of my eyes tomorrow from blue to brown. After having purchased the hair color, I made my way to the address where the room should be listed.
After walking up the wooden stairs to the porch, I open the bent screen door and use the knocker to knock on the wooden door on the front porch. A lovely middle-aged woman opening the door greets me, although her scent differs from a human or animal.
