Chapter 18
Josh and I made it to the hospital in no time. We ran in our wolf's form to get to the hospital faster. As soon as we returned to our human forms, we found ourselves completely naked in the hospital. Immediately, the nurses rushed to get us hospital gowns.
The two of us rush to my mate's room, where we find her with only one child and wailing. When I pick up the baby, I smile at her, but I am wondering where my son is?
My mate is still crying and not making any sense to me. So, I tucked my little girl into the bassinet. Keeping her close, I rub her back and hold her. As soon as she calmed down, she could speak coherently.
Constance -
I couldn't seem to stop crying, what I needed to be was mad. No one asked me to cremate my son. I don't get it, his sonograms showed he was a healthy baby.
"Cameron, our son is dead per the nurse, and she had him cremated right away. His sonograms showed he was a happy, healthy boy. Cameron, do you have any idea what is going on?"
I could see Cameron's wolf showing with his yellow eyes as he got up and punched a wall. When the nurse returned with ashes, Cameron grabbed the nurse by the neck and pushed her against the wall. "Where is my son?!?"
The nurse groaned loudly as she lifted an urn containing ashes and handed them to Alpha Cameron. The moment Cameron saw the urn, he dropped the nurse to the floor and picked up the urn. Shaking his head in disbelief, Cameron couldn't believe that this was his newborn son. His face is red with anger as he looks at the nurse. The wolf in him wants to rip her apart. Josh told the nurse to "LEAVE NOW" while holding Cameron.
Cameron instructed several warriors to question the Nurse, the Cremator, and anyone else in the room. No one knew anything, and they all backed the nurses' story. Cameron and Constance still didn't believe it. The nurse's family and the coroner's family were investigated. They had them followed by the Alphas' men. Still, they could not find their son or any proof that he was taken.
Around a year later, they gave up searching. They had searched, thinking maybe they sold their son on the black market. Constance had fallen into a deep depression; she knew those ashes were not those of her son. She hadn't slept for a long time and had lost lots of weight. She would sometimes go into her closet and cry her heart out, laying in the closet in a fetal position.
Cameron sr. had a grumpier disposition. Whenever someone asked him how he was, he snapped their heads off in a matter of seconds. It was impossible to converse with him. He tried to be strong for Constance, but sometimes, when he felt as though he himself would cry, he would run into the forest and run to the lake. He would shift backwards and cry. Cameron felt he let Constance down since, if he had been at the birth, they would not be enduring this pain now without their son.
Once a year on his birthday, they would celebrate the twins' birthday, Colts and Clair's birthday. They knew in their hearts he was still alive out there somewhere. When he was born, they had named him Cayden. Then they looked at Colt's memories, and when they saw who really had taken him, they felt betrayed, this was their best friends, Rosie had been more of a sister to Constance, they had played with each other since they had been in diapers. Constance never would have entertained the thought that it was Rosie. Constance was now heartbroken. How could her best friend betray her is such a painstaking way?
Once out of the trance, Constance broke down crying, for losing raising her son, for her friend being the kidnapper, and they never knew or suspected. Colt having felt their emotions on a personal level in the trance, rushed over to his biological mother, crying as well, and hugging her.
Colt also, through his mother's memories, saw Cameron jr. profess how he would protect his baby sister from harm, as he couldn't protect his baby brother. Thus, the overprotectiveness of Clair's brothers began. Colt had never realized how much he meant to them, and how sadly this affected their lives. Colt and his mother cried in each other's arms.
Cameron Jr.
"I will have the people in the meeting room take a break and we will reconvene in about two-hours. Take a break yourselves."
Colt -
As I thought about Clair's reasons for leaving, overprotective brothers came to mind. In a strange sort of way, I was partly to blame for it. If I hadn't been kidnapped, they would never have made the promise to always keep her safe.
I hate what my parents have done to my biological parents and the pain they have endured. I feel conflicted because my father was a wonderful father. Not only did he play football, but he also taught me how to be a responsible Alpha. Not only were they fun to hang out with, but they were also kind to me.
As I look back at all my parents' and my memories, I must admit that it was cold and calculating what my kidnapper parents did to their best friends (my biological parents).
I haven't gotten up to leave the meeting table; it lost me in my thoughts and trying to deal with my emotions. My brother Cameron walks over puts his hand on my shoulder and says, "Come on brother, let us get something to eat."
I nodded yes and stood up, "Yes big brother, I can say I am starving, let's go eat."
They set a huge wooden table up in the middle of the chow hall where everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves to the fullest. I walked back and served myself food and then sat next to my mother, who had saved a seat for me. I am sure that she would like to make up for lost time, just as I would.
