Chapter 82
Clair –
The anger I felt toward him may have been unwarranted. Throughout my life, I have demanded independence and been outspoken. Prior to speaking, I need to think a bit. He is worried about me and the pups.
It is apparent that rogues have breached the perimeters and he is our future upset king. I will send some men to follow him. Keeping him safe is our responsibility. Granted, Xander can take down ten men; however, he may be distracted by running and being upset while doing so. I ordered the men to let me know when he is in sight. I warned them not to approach, just watch from a distance. It is more likely that Xander and his wolf will fight first and then ask questions later.
In the end, I made it back to the electronic security department of our company. It was my decision to move the manager to a new part of security. As a result, he has assumed the role of guard at "the dump". The logs indicated that our camera had been inoperable for more than a week, so I demoted him. Furthermore, I am having the interrogators question him as well. My hope is that he is not a mole for our organization. There is no way I will take any chances, as we have been breached today, and we could have been breached every single day if we were not careful.
I am having the interrogators interview everyone in my department as well as conduct more in-depth background checks.
Taking a seat one at a time with each employee, I observe what everyone does while taking notes. Seeing the employees' nervousness, I carry on a friendly conversation, asking if they have a partner. If they were born into the pack. Have we had any company parties? Do they want to be involved in such activities? It was during this time that I documented what this individual was responsible for.
While sitting in my office, I consider who the rogues might kidnap if that's one of their goals. There is no doubt that royalty is at the top of the list. However, there are others as well. For instance, they kidnapped the beta's sister, thank goodness she escaped.
Extra guards are stationed at the palace to keep the inhabitants safe. Castles often have hidden passages and forgotten doors. Currently, the wolves are studying schematics that date back as far as they can. Hundreds of years have passed since the castle was built.
The two betas, Michael, and Zach have advised me to stay out of the forest and send several men to scout the perimeter of the forest. Additionally, I will have them visit the different homes in the pack. The houses I would like to visit are the pack doctors', the Gamma's, our pack scientists, the gate guards, and the personal guards. To gain information about us, rogues will attempt to find weaknesses and use that against us to manipulate us to exploit them.
The Emerald Kings brother Andor -----
There is something I dislike about the rogue king. He is always so needy, and he is, for lack of a better word, stupid.
I have made a pact with the rogue king; he will kidnap females who are capable of bearing whelps, and I will support him in his small petty conquests. As opposed to female wolves, women dragons do not produce multiple offspring. He is kidnapping both dragon women and young female wolves. To achieve my objective, I intend to build an army which will be larger than any dragon's army.
The army I have is quite large. I am simply preparing for the future. The fact that my father denied me my right to the throne will be regretted by him. To claim the crown, I will kill his favorite son, the little brother he gave the crown to. That was supposed to be my crown, however, I have never been loved by my father.
The rogue king is so inept, he keeps kidnapping females and they either escape or are rescued by none the less his own right-hand man. I am about to set him free and kick him and his wolves off my land if he can’t produce females as he had promised.
I have given the rogue king one more chance. He better start delivering on his promise.
BACK at the Castle—
Xander –
I had to get away from everything, as my wolf was upset that our mate did not care about her own life and that of our pups.
I knew that I was being followed by some of my men. It didn’t bother me as they kept their distance. I had finally run out of hostility and energy to run any longer. I instructed my men to quit hiding, I knew they were there and it was okay.
There were a couple of females being dragged out of the pack by the rogue king's men. With their mouths gagged, the rogues dragged them by their hair. There was one rogue who grew tired of one of the women digging her heels into the ground and slowing down their movement. A punch to the head knocked her out of consciousness, and the rogue hurled her over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes.
Xander and his men found the faint scent of the rogues. As they shifted back to their wolf forms, they followed the terrible smell emanating from the foul rogues. Having seen the rogues engaged in an abduction, Xander and his men quickly picked up their speed in an attempt to free the girls from the clutches of the rogues. At the time they had arrived at the rogues, they were just outside the pack grounds.
The rogues had been lifted into a helicopter that was hovering above them to transport the girls away from the pack. In spite of the fact that we were not able to grab the girls in time, my men and I were able to catch the rogues. As a result of my bad temper today, I had to refrain from tearing apart the rogues, but I know my wolf would have enjoyed doing so. It was when I glanced up at the helicopter that I realized that it was none other than the rogue king himself who was staring out of it. There was a burning hatred in his eyes, and I am sure I also reflected that same hatred in my eyes as he glared at me.
