Two longing hearts
“I can't let you go.
Trust me, I've tried, and I swear I'm Still trying to know.
How to move on
If somebody told me, I still wouldn't know where to go….”

It had been almost an hour when I asked Evelyn to help herself and I haven't seen her since then.
'Why is she still in the room?' I scratched my chin in confusion and then made my way towards my room, passing through the corridor which was illuminated by a warm light.
Entering the room at the end of the corridor, casting a brief glance all over my room and the closed bathroom door. I was about to return when I observed a small movement beside my bed which caught my attention.
Walking towards the bed, I angled my neck and saw Evelyn on the floor, her back resting against the bed. Furrowing my eyebrows in confusion, I took a few steps towards her, my shoes making a noise against the hard floor but she had not noticed my presence. My eyes zeroed on the photo frame that she held in her hands that I had hidden in the drawer years ago. Her eyes were closed as she was silent, her face looked emotionless, but the stains of tears in her eyes said otherwise.
Kneeling down beside her and that was when she acknowledged me. The moisture brightened her honey gaze, like a shiny diamond as she stared into mine.
"You lost the right to grieve over us the night you left me." I whispered, pulling the frame out of her hands. Her lower lip trembled and she scrunched her nose, tears once again welling inside her huge eyes.
"Don't…"
"The night you left me waiting for you to come back, worrying over your safety and you were with someone else, someone you loved, right?"
"Please…. Just… don't." She mumbled, her face dripping with sadness.
"Why? Didn't you love him? Or did you get bored after some time?" I leaned closer to her, my gaze flickering to her lips covered in cherry tint.
Taking a deep breath, she looked at me with her red puffy eyes, "You're enjoying it. Aren't you?" Said Evelyn, a deep red color rose to her cheeks.
"Very much." I said, our noses almost touching. I was not planning on kissing her but suddenly, I felt like an invisible string pulled us together. My cheeks heated due to our proximity, her warm breath tickling the lower half of my face.
Evelyn closed her eyes and my lips briefly brushed against hers, for a nanosecond. It was too short that it could not be considered as a peck but it was long enough to cause my veins throb with longing and desire. I didn't know what I would have done if it was not for the photo that caught my attention again in which I saw her face, the frown she wore that day, the emptiness of her eyes and the events that followed our wedding.
"Once a cheat, always a cheat." I taunted, jerking myself away from her. She opened her eyes as they glistened with confusion as her lips were slightly parted.
"Just get the hell out of my sight." I spat and flushing in embarrassment, she stood up. Her eyes didn't leave the floor as she walked past me and exited my room.
Why the hell did she come back? Why the fuck she had to betray me at the first place? I was fine without her. It took me five years to forget her and now she is back, to turn my life into hell. Having her sharing the same house as mine made me want to do something, anything that would calm the negativity brewing inside me.
Worse, her presence is exciting my heart in a way no girl ever did.
Standing up, I walked towards the window hiding behind the curtains of my room. Sliding them aside, I peeked through the glass. Except for the honking sound of cars, not a single voice could be heard from outside. I stood there, fighting the countless thoughts brewing inside my head, weaving a tangled mess inside my mind.
After a few moments, Evelyn walked out through the street bare feet, tightening her arms around her. Her face had lost all the color that was decorating it before and a mask of indifference had coated it now.
I didn't know where the hell she was going this late at night as I saw her walking to the opposite side of the street where after a few minutes a car came into sight. A man stepped out of the car, the same man she hugged in the restaurant. When she reached him, he stepped nearer and snaked his arm around her.
He looked at her and was saying something to her and she immediately started crying as if she was pouring her heart out in front of him. The man was patting her back in circles, trying to comfort her, whispering something in her ear. The image added to my fury and my hands itched to push that man away from my… Ugh! from her.
"Some people never change." A voice sounded from behind, a voice I haven't heard in four years.
"What are you doing here?" My tone was dry. I could not bring myself to look at his perfect face that ruined my happiness once.
"How could I miss my friend's invitation?" His hand moved to my shoulder but I stepped away.
"Nobody invited you." I said and walked towards my bed to sleep.
"Please Xavier. I'm seeing you after four years. Do I not deserve at least a smile?" He complained.
"Let's forget the formalities and especially not talk about what you deserve or not." I mocked, a taunting smile hovering over my lips as I shifted into the bed.
"It's because of her. Isn't it? Consider it an advice best friend, stay away from that leech. She is a liar, a cheat, a fucking-who"
"Get the hell out of my sight Ethan before I ruin this ugly face of yours." I fumed, my eyes throwing daggers at him. He began to say something but then the sane part of his mind must have stopped him. Muttering something under his breath, he exited my room.
Why the fuck hearing him say these words against Evelyn hurt me?
