I’m her father
“Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it is morrow.” – William Shakespeare
A heavy feeling settled in Xavier's stomach as his body went extra stiff and rigid. A sudden coldness dreaded in his being when Evelyn said with a horror-stricken face, "Kids! They are in the hospital!"
Aiden's eyes widened in alarm as he held her arm in a firm grip, "Let's go." And started dragging her towards the elevator.
His feet were glued to the surface and wasn't able to make any movement.
What did she mean by kids? Whose kids?
Are they hers and Aiden's…?
No-no, no, NO!
Meanwhile, "I'm sorry, it's an emergency. I'll make it up to you later, we better leave." Aiden said in a hurry to Mason and Katherine.
"Rubbish we're coming along, let's go," declared Mason, turning his head, "Marcus!" Before Mason could finish, Marcus came with his car keys, saying, "Let's go."
It was hard for Evelyn to grasp any voice as she herself reached the elevator and pressed the button, not waiting for anyone else. It immediately opened as all of them stepped in. As she stood there with sweaty hands folded in front of her, she watched Xavier's shocked and concerned-filled forest greens watching her. Their eyes held each other only to be broken by the elevator doors closing.
"Snap out of it!" Someone yelled in front of Xavier's face, giving a shake to his rigid muscles.
Xavier's eyes found Ethan's face as he said, "Move a muscle and fucking leave."
Katherine squeezed his shoulder, saying, "She needs you, Xavier."
"Yes, don't worry, we'll take care of Alex." Said Carolina, holding Alexander's sleeping figure in her embrace.
Ethan handed Xavier his car keys and Xavier immediately rushed in a hurry.
In a matter of minutes, Evelyn found herself in the passenger seat of Aiden's car tugging her necklace, nervously, silently praying that her twins were alright. A warmth covered her left hand, as she looked at Aiden who was looking back at her mirroring her worry.
"They'll be fine." He assured her.
Holding his hand, tightly, "I know… I can't help it… this-"
She started but got cut off by Aiden in between as he said, "Don't. Just don't overthink, they'll be fine."
Evelyn let the comfort from his words wrap around her and released his hand. Her head was now pounding at another level, also her nerves got the best of her and her hands couldn't rest in peace as she continuously tugged on the Rose pendant around her neck that had been there for the last five years. It's the only thing that had been there from her past along with her two hearts, she wasn't going to lose any of them.
"What happened to them? What did Linda say?" Aiden's voice broke her train of thought and when she opened her mouth to answer, words froze on her tongue.
"I… I just heard the news of them in the hospital." Answered Evelyn to which Aiden shook his head.
As Aiden drove towards the hospital, Mason trailed behind with Xavier driving behind Mason's car.
"She has a kid," Marcus mumbled to himself.
"Twins actually," corrected Mason, while driving the car.
Narrowing his eyes, "How do you know?" Asked Marcus.
Running his fingers through his hair, "She herself mentioned her kids to me and Kat. I hope everything's fine."
Soon, three cars were parked in the parking lot of the Hawaii City Hospital. As soon as the engine got cut off, Evelyn unbuckled herself and got out of the car.
Rushing through the sliding door, and slammed her hands on the reception desk, asking for Her children's room number. The receptionist pointed towards the elevator, mentioning 'OT-07'.
Aiden held her hand as he started rubbing her back, but it didn't have any effect on her as she could still feel her erratically beating heart in her chest and her sweaty no matter how many times, she wiped it on her dress.
There were so many doors, and they all looked the same, her head felt lightheaded as she walked deeper into the hospital. Too many memories were forming, and Evelyn managed to push them away. The longer she walked through the hospital, the colder she felt.
"Here," Mason said after he led them through halls and elevators as he inquired about everything from the receptionist. He stopped in front of another set of double doors and opened it up. Inside there was another set of hallways that branched out. Mason took the hallway to the left and instantly found himself standing in front of a petite lady sitting on the chair that was placed out in the hallway.
Aiden approached her, as he was the first to speak, "Linda, what happened?" She immediately bounced from her seat and wrapped her hands around him, crying loudly.
"I… I don't know…" Pulling away, Linda was wringing his hands and staring at the ground as Aiden had one hand around her shoulder, supporting her.
"Don't know." Evelyn cried as frustration laced her face, "Weren't you there?!"
"Rose, calm down," Mason said softly.
"Calm down?" Evelyn pushed her fingers through her hair. "Can someone just please tell me what happened?"
Linda didn't answer, causing Evelyn to shout trying to get her to answer.
"Linda!"
"I don't know," Linda placed her hands on her forehead. "I don't know, please stop yelling." She started crying on the spot making Evelyn angrier and more worried. "They… I found them both lying unconscious… maybe… they fell from stairs."
Fresh tears cascaded down Evelyn's eyes as a gasp left her lips, and her feet trudged backward in shock. Aiden wanted to calm her but Linda was leaning against him for support.
Evelyn sobbed and started muttering under her breath as one of her hands covered her lips, "Kids... my...kids…"
Suddenly a strong hand pulled Evelyn from her forearm towards his chiseled chest and hugged her close. "Hush... they'll be fine…. breathe in and out slowly." Xavier's voice kissed her insides as he placed one of his warm hands around her back, rubbing it in rounds as another was holding her head, keeping it in place against his chest.
"Xavier…"
Evelyn didn't care about this pretense right now, she knew she was somehow connected to Xavier Knight, and she was unable to deal with this tormenting feeling inside her right now. Xavier wouldn't leave now; she knew he wouldn't.
He tightened his arms around her and Evelyn felt somewhat protected in his embrace, somewhat familiar. It's been a long time since he hugged her like this, where he was trying to soothe her because she was scared… scared for her kids. It was like he could feel how terrified she was. All that stuff that people say about star-crossed lovers being able to have some telepathic ability wasn't entirely wrong.
While comforting Evelyn who was on the verge of fainting, Xavier held her close to him, as he asked looking at Linda, "Are they in there?" He asked silently.
Linda understood his question as she shook her head, "Doctors said we have to wait here. Izzy is in a different room; they don't know what's wrong with her, so they didn't place her in surgery. They'll move their beds into normal rooms once they're better. At least, that's what they said."
Xavier took Evelyn towards the seats in the hallway. Mason and Marcus stood leaning against the wall as Aiden held Linda in his arms. He had his back against the wall, sitting on the chairs and staring at the clock in front of them. They were quiet for almost thirty minutes, each of them having their thoughts. The world around him seemed to have crashed down as he stared into space.
While Xavier had his arm around Evelyn's shoulder her head was laid on Xavier's shoulder.
Her continuous mumbling, "My... kids…" grasped Xavier's attention as he made out that she was a single mother. All he could think of was, how could this happen?
Are they… are they his too? But they never-
His eyes widened when he looked down into their memory lane, they did make love when they were in California, he clearly remembered the hurtful words he said to her a night later. He remembered her outburst when she confessed about him being the one who took her virginity, the night she left, the night she had an accident.
Before his thoughts could strike more, it was one in the morning when a doctor in a white lab coat started walking down the hall hurriedly. He stopped in front of them causing them all to straighten up, "Miss Clinton?" He said directly looking at Evelyn somehow.
"That's me," Evelyn answered, as by now everyone was on their feet.
"I just thought you'd be pleased to know that your son Isaac is doing fine. He had a very deep cut on his forehead and a broken elbow. While he was asleep, we took the advantage of stitching the wound. The nurses bandaged everything up, he should be okay to leave in maybe less than a day. And it's going to take three months for his fracture to heal." The doctor said as they all sighed in relief when they got the news.
"We'll bring him into this room shortly." The doctor pointed at one of the doors before placing a clipboard on the front.
"Wait," Evelyn called when the doctor started walking away. "What about Isabella? My daughter."
"We got-" Before the doctor could finish a nurse rushed down the hallway towards them as she called, "Doctor."
"What happened?" The doctor asked as everyone's eyes traveled between them.
"OT-07 patient had severe blood loss; she urgently needs a blood donor." Informed the nurse, handing him the clipboard where every detail was mentioned.
"AB negative… damnit," The doctor muttered under his breath, "What's the position of the AB negative category in the blood bank?" He asked the nurse.
"It has been used in the morning surgery." The nurse informed the doctor.
Immediately turning towards Evelyn, "What's your blood type?"
Her face was even more pale than before, "B positive," she mumbled.
"Did anyone have an AB-negative blood type in your family?" The doctor questioned.
Everyone went quiet as Xavier immediately answered, "I have, I'm AB negative."
"Great," The doctor said, turning towards the nurse, he said, "Let the Doctor know, we have a donor. Prepare everything." The nurse nodded and left.
Looking at Xavier, "We'll measure your blood pressure," the doctor informed Xavier as he wrote down the necessities on the paper, keeping his on the paper, the doctor asked, "Name and relation to the patient?"
Taking a deep breath, "Xavier Knight… I'm her… father." said Xavier, shocking everyone out, but mostly the one who was in his embrace, who has been denying this possibility since the day they met.
