Chapter 89 Learning the Truth
After a long pause, Bane said with a shudder, "I, I don't know what you're saying. I'll go. I'll wait for the doctor."
With that, Bane turned around and hurried off to the emergency room.
Bert saw Bane's face showing no expression, especially calm, and finally said directly, "You had twins six years ago."
At this, Bane's pace stopped short.
Her eyes suddenly widened and froze.
"Norton, your child too."
Bane exploded. She turned and rushed to Bert's face, clutching at his clothes and contorting her face.
"What? Say it again!"
"The two children you had that year, Norton was taken away and brought to me."
Immediately Bane felt himself in a dream, and everything around him became a trance.
Is she, uh, Norton's mom?
Norton and Sophie look so alike.
It looks very frightening.
Bert continued, "When I sent for you at your house, I was impersonated by Betsy Reed, whom I had not been able to find out because I was dealing with an enemy. She impersonated you, and brought Norton to me, while she left Sophie there."
He told Bane the truth.
Bert was going to tell Bane about it later.
But Sophie had so nearly died this time that he realized there was no point in his concealment.
If anything had happened to Sophie, not only would Bane not forgive himself, he would not forgive himself either.
"You lied to me...
Bane's eyes went red, her hands trembled, and Bert's skirts were almost out of his grasp.
"Norton."
"Cried Bert suddenly.
Norton, standing not far away, runs to Bert's side.
Bert deadpanned and said, "Call Mama."
Norton is stunned. It takes him a few moments to react, then he throws his mouth open, looking nervous.
"Daddy, Daddy... I......"
Bert gives him a look, and Norton's eyes fall back on Bane. The name is simply a word, but Norton is too excited to shout it out for a long time.
And Bane, seeing what Norton looks like, is sure that Bert is not lying to her.
Norton and Sophie are so much alike...
She wanted some excuse to lie to herself, but when she thought of the faces of the children, there was suddenly no excuse.
Moreover, every time she sees Norton, she can't help but feel soft and want to care about him, care about him.
Now she knew why.
Bane was a little overwhelmed by the news.
Norton stifled his excitement and shouted at Bane, "Mother! I may call thee mother!"
Norton's words, "Mom," set Bane back to thinking.
Her lips tremble, she looks at Norton, and then watches him say "Mom" to her again, but this time it's not as strong as the last one.
Bane could hold it no longer, and the tears kept coming down.
Norton thinks for a moment, then walks up to Bane. He opens his hand and asks nervously, "Mom, will you give me a hug?"
There was a wistful look on Norton's little face. Bane repressed his confused thoughts at the sight of Norton, but he did not hug Norton.
Norton's eyes dimmed as he stood there and his mother did not respond, but he was adamant, his hands still open, unwilling to let go.
Bert, on the other side, didn't say anything, just stood there.
Norton's arm was starting to ache from holding it up, as if he was about to burst into tears, and he didn't let it down until it trembled.
Finally, Bane crouched down and pulled Norton into his arms.
The moment she took Norton in her arms, that missing piece of her heart just vanished.
Norton gives a big smile and hugs his mother tightly.
Bane slowly lets go and calms down, but without a word or a look at Bert, she leads Norton to the emergency room door and waits quietly.
Bert stood there, erect and quiet, looking at Bane and Norton, who caught his father's eye and turned his head to smile at him.
The corners of Bert's mouth curved and he threw his head back to look at the ceiling.
It was not long before the doctor came out of the emergency room, but Sophie's condition had stabilized and she had been brought to the hospital just in time, which would have been a very serious event. Sophie's temperature had now dropped.
All the people hanging the heart will be put down.
Bane and Norton entered the room together. Sophie was fast asleep when Norton shook his mother's hand and said, "Mom, Sister will be all right. Don't worry, Dad won't let Sister."
Bane paused, still a little uncomfortable with Norton's "Mom."
Anne stood aside, her face filled with surprise, and she turned sharply to look at Bane and Norton, her mind filled with thoughts.
Bane didn't say a word. He just touched the Norton field.
"Sister Norah."
Annie reacted and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Take care of Norton for me."
Norton, alarmed, grabs his mother's hand and looks at Bane with an aggrieved look.
"It won't be long before I come back. I just... There's something to ask your father."
Norton drops his hand and sits delicately in his chair.
Anne guessed right away, but said nothing more. "Don't worry, Bane," she said. "I'll take care of the children."
"Please."
Bane walks over to the hospital bed, touches Sophie's cheek, then places a kiss on Sophie's cheek. Turning around, she sees Norton looking expectantly at her. She hesitates, but finally kisses Norton and leaves the room.
Corridor, just also in the figure disappeared.
Feeling ill, Bane hurried off to Bert with a frantic step.
"Here I am."
There was a familiar voice behind him.
Bane turned around and saw Bert approaching, still carrying food and milk.
Before Bane knew it, she had a bottle of hot milk stuffed into her hand.
"Drink the milk before you catch a cold."
It was a caring remark, but there was a touch of impatience in the tone in which Bert said it.
Bane took the milk in his hand and gritted his teeth. "Did you know that already?"
