Chapter seventy nine
Drew
After every steaming session with her, we always ended it with a fight. This was not good especially if i wanted to go far with her as regards our relationship. She had me on a tight leash. She wanted to know everything i did which was something i couldn't just tell her
''Laura, you make this so hard.'' I muttered.
My phone which sat on a nearby table lit up and I knew that I had an incoming call or message. It was a call, one I didn't want to answer. it was the same unknown contact i ignored earlier and for the life of me, i just couldn't understand why he was calling me after so many years.
''What.'' I snapped.
''Good of you for picking up my calls.'' the voice said.
That voice gave me nightmares and today wasn't an exception. I knew who that voice belonged to and I didn't know if I could continue with the call because the voice gave me the creeps.
''What do you want, Juan?'' I snapped.
''What I want you to do is give me a breakdown on the job I gave you earlier on.'' he said.
''Juan, I've told you already, I have no intentions of working with you and for you anymore. I have my own organization now with my own men and it's best for you if you let me be.'' I snapped.
I was sick and tired of him trying to lure me into his organization that wasn't of any benefit to me. I preferred being on my own but like the idiot he was, he just couldn't get that.
''You know the consequences of disobeying the order.'' he snapped.
''I know and I do not bloody care. Do you hear me? I do not care.'' I screamed.
I was angry, beyond livid. Laura had left me till God knows when and this idiot thinks he could guilt trip me into joining something I had no intentions of ever joining.
''We'll see about that.'' he chuckled.
''Yes we'll...''.
I glanced at my phone and I discovered that he had already cut the call on me. I seethed, flinging my phone at a far corner of my living room.
I stalked towards my liquor cabinet, pulling down a bottle of scotch even though it was late in the night. At that moment, I just didn't care what happened. I was ready to bear the consequences of how I reacted to him.
My phone beeped again from where I flung it. I was tempted to ignore it but I had a feeling that it was important.
''Yes.'' I said, placing it on my ear.
''Boss, it's me.'' Killian said.
I had a lot of enemies, that much was certain and I needed someone who would give me first hand details about anything that was going on and to be honest, Jack and Killian had been helping me so far and if i was to lay down my life for them, i would do it without blinking an eye.
''Any news?'' I asked.
''Yes Boss. The target has been spotted leaving a warehouse on the outskirts of the city.'' he said.
''Great, keep a tail on him and tell me the minute you get anything.'' I said.
''Noted boss''.
''I want you to take up another assignment too. i want you to put a trail on a certain lady, i'll send you her pictures and her address. Under no circumstances must she get hurt.'' I said.
I had vowed never to let Laura out of my sight and it was time to fulfill that vow. She was mine and mine alone and even though we might argue and fight at times, she was still mine
''Noted boss.'' Killian said.
''Good. Be discreet as possible, this lady is very observant and would know when something is up''.
''I'll keep that in mind.'' he said.
''Thank you. if there is any other thing i need to relate, i'll let you know.''said.
''Sure boss.'' he said before cutting the call.
I sighed, placing my phone on a nearby table. I was fed up with how my life was going, fed up with the constant fights I had with Laura. I knew where the problem was coming from but I just wasn't ready to reveal that part of my life to her. It was beyond me and i knew that it would only take a large amount of bravery before i could do that.
''I just hope you understand Laura.'' I muttered.
I downed the rest of my drinks, going over to my room to take a rest. I had a pretty busy day today and I had no idea how tomorrow might turn out to be.
In all honesty, Laura was the woman of my dreams and there was nothing I wouldn't do for her. I felt like she understood me better than all the ladies I had dated in the past. The truth was I had never loved any other lady like how I loved Laura. There were times when I just stared at her especially in the throes of passion and wondered how I got so lucky to have her.
If it was that easy, i'll elope with her to a far away country where we'll never be heard from again. I was rich enough to adequately take care of her and I knew that nothing would stop us from living the life we wanted.
I glanced at the wall clock in my room and I discovered that it was almost midnight. Laura should have gotten home by now but the thing was that I was too scared to call her, scared that she wouldn't answer me when I called. I hated rejections, especially from the people I loved.
Nevertheless, I dialed her number, waiting with bated breath whether she was going to pick or not. She had left angrily this morning with my child, no doubt to the house i had bought for her a few weeks ago as a pregnancy gift. She picked at the last ring and we remained silent, waiting for the other to speak.
''Laura.'' I muttered.
''Drew.'' she fired back.
From the tone of her voice, I knew she was still angry. She hadn't noticed it but I knew when she was angry. She talked faster, sometimes mixing up her words in a haste to let her anger out.
That was a gift I had, the ability to observe someone's behavior within a short frame. Some call it weird, some call it demonic but that was just who I was.
''I hope you got to the house safely?'' I asked.
''Yes I did.'' she said.
We remained silent yet again, waiting for the other to speak. I knew I couldn't let this go on and needed to do something about it as fast as possible.
''I'll be over soon.'' I said.
''Over where?'' she asked.
''To the mansion, we need to iron this out.'' I said.
''Don't bother, it's no use.'' she said.
''Too late, i'm already on my way.'' I smirked, cutting the call.
