Chapter Forty-Six
Chapter Forty-Six
As soon as Bella picked up the phone before she could even speak, the voice on the other end spoke first. [Have you received my apology gift? Why haven't you replied to my messages? Are you still angry with me?]
"I've already said it, I'm not angry. What our relationship is, don't you understand?" Bella sighed, her mood unsettled, but her mind was clear. She is very aware of the relationship between herself and Levi. The thing that must not be violated is having feelings for the other person. Levi's actions right now are like the two are lovers, but Bella knows clearly that he is just doing so on a whim.
Arbitrary people like Levi can easily do actions that make others misunderstand, especially women. It's not natural that Levi is so loved and admired by most women, not only because of his handsome appearance but because of his misleading actions that make others think he is a kind and warm person.
Bella only recently realized this, not through a specific moment, but she just felt that a man like Levi was ten thousand times more dangerous than ambitious people like Max.
[What's wrong with your voice? You seem to be in a bad mood.]
Bella heard his soft laughter clearly; she didn't doubt how he knew, merely assuming that perhaps she couldn't hide her discomfort, and he sensed it through her voice.
"No need—"
["Ah... I know, I'll come pick you up at the company. Just five minutes."]
Levi said, promptly hanging up before Bella could say more.
Bella stared at the now dark phone screen, bewildered. She wanted to ask how he knew she was still at the company. Could Levi really gauge her emotions and whereabouts through her voice alone?
As Levi had said, as soon as Bella stepped out of the company, there was a supercar waiting. The car itself was striking and drew the attention of many.
Bella furrowed her brows slightly; she didn't want anyone to notice or suspect her and Levi's ambiguous relationship. Yet, this man paid no attention to the stares, pulling up in the supercar, and making Bella feel unable to escape.
"Get in the car. Hurry, you don't want to be discovered, do you?" Levi said with a pleased smile.
Bella had no choice. She glanced left and right before hastily getting into the car. As soon as she sat down, Bella voiced her discomfort, "Why did you install a tracker on my phone? Are you a stalker?"
Levi wasn't flustered by being found out; on the contrary, he chuckled, "Oh... caught by you, I thought you'd figure it out sooner. But it's not too late now that you've discovered."
"What? Do you mean you've been tracking my phone for a long time? Since when and why would you do that?" Bella interrogated angrily, her mood already sour from witnessing her husband and best friend committing shameful acts in the basement parking lot. Now, her emotions were at rock bottom because of this man.
Levi didn't answer directly, just laughed, "Seems like your husband and best friend have gone home, right? Your workload must be heavy for you to still be here?"
The atmosphere lightened slightly. Bella sighed, crossed her arms, leaning back comfortably, "They probably haven't gone home yet. They're still fooling around in the car at the basement."
Speaking of which, Bella couldn't help but smirk sarcastically.
"You speak as if you actually saw them doing that," Levi glanced at Bella and remarked.
Bella shrugged, "Indeed, I stood not far away and witnessed everything they did. It's surprising even to me why I can remain calm and return to the office."
As Bella finished her sentence, Levi burst into laughter, finding the situation, though not funny and rather painful for a woman, quite interesting.
“Your husband is truly a beast that thinks with his lower body. Last night, he even went to dinner with you, but tonight he could have done something embarrassing with your best friend. What's even more interesting is the reaction of a wife like you, aren't you angry?" Levi glanced at Bella and saw that her expression was very calm. He wondered if Bella had completely ended her love with Max, that's why she had such an expressionless expression.
Bella didn't want to answer; she simply waved her hand and said, "Let's not talk about this anymore. Tonight, I don't want to go home."
"It's rare to see you not wanting to go home, you know. When I came here, I thought you would definitely insist on going home. You must be feeling really bad tonight," Levi chuckled.
Normally, that would be the case; Bella felt safest and most comfortable at home. Despite knowing her husband was having an affair, initially, she was devastated and shocked, but somehow she still only wanted to be at home whether Max was there or not.
In the past year, Max had spent very little time at home with her, to the extent that it could be counted on one hand. During the day, Max worked at the company, and in the evening, he used work as an excuse to handle documents, meet urgent partners, meet clients... anything to stay away from home. Before Bella discovered her husband's affair with her best friend, she had trusted him, and since then she had learned how to endure loneliness in her own home.
"Just assume you're right. I want to go to the bar we went to last time," Bella said.
In this big city, there were many different bars, so Levi didn't know which bar Bella was referring to. "The bar we went to last time?"
"Where we first met," Bella didn't want to say much, just this sentence made Levi immediately understand.
During the journey, neither of them said anything. Bella looked out at the street; the cityscape at night was beautiful, especially when she was sitting in this expensive supercar. But right now, Bella didn't have the mood to admire the night scenery at all.
"Hey, tonight I'll pay you to be my drinking buddy, my personal driver," Bella broke the silence between them. She made the offer without realizing whose supercar they were sitting in.
In response to Bella's offer, Levi just laughed and asked back, "How much are you planning to pay me for those two jobs?"
"Let's see... I've just started working so I don't have much money. I'll pay you according to market price and tip you a little extra," Bella said, opening her wallet and examining it before nodding.
Levi glanced at her and said, "I guess you have enough money to pay me."
Looking at the bar in front of her, Bella felt a rush of excitement and indescribable interest inside her. She couldn't tell if it was the excitement in the air or not.
As soon as Bella stepped in, she attracted many eyes because her attire didn't fit the place. Everyone was dressed very provocatively and revealing, but Bella was in office attire, looking very serious.
Bella noticed the eyes darting towards her and leaned closer to Levi, asking, "Do I look strange? Why are they staring at me?"
"Because you're with a handsome man; that's why they're looking," Levi immediately replied with a self-satisfied tone.
Bella immediately regretted asking him, quickly walking to the bar counter. She wanted to drink a lot and get so drunk that she couldn't wake up anymore. To forget the sadness, discomfort, and feelings of failure, alcohol was the first thing Bella thought of.
"What can I get for you, miss?" The handsome bartender with a warm smile and sunny disposition asked Bella.
Bella recognized him as the super handsome bartender she had met the first time she came here. Just as Bella was about to order her drink, Levi next to her spoke up.
"Two Old Fashioneds, please. Thank you."
"How did you know I was going to order an Old Fashioned?" Bella furrowed her brows, questioning. She had been planning to order an Old Fashioned too, though she thought it was just a coincidence. It was an easy and common drink to order.
But Levi's next words made Bella quite amused; he said, "You forgot already? The first time you met me, you also ordered an Old Fashioned. Since I'm your drinking buddy tonight, I'll naturally be drinking with you. After all, you hired me to do that."
Just a few words from Levi made Bella feel more comfortable; she couldn't help but laugh at his humor.
Bella felt the blend of spicy, sweet, and bitter flavors, balanced with complex and deep aromas. Bella couldn't remember how she felt the last time she was here, but this time she didn't feel any pain or exhaustion; instead, she felt quite comfortable.
"Wow... this feeling isn't bad..." Bella shook the glass of liquor in her hand, the warm brown color of the liquor evident in her eyes. She couldn't help but smile.
Levi sat right beside her, sipping his drink but never taking his eyes off Bella, even for a second. Suddenly, Bella tugged at his shirt, and he heard her ask, "Levi, do you think they feel remorse or guilt towards me?"
Levi raised an eyebrow, "If they felt guilty, they would have stopped."
Listening to Levi's answer, Bella chuckled softly, shaking her head. “You are wrong, although I am not a psychologist, I think the two of them at some moment or moment really felt guilty and sorry towards me. But they cannot overcome the exciting temptation of adultery.”
“The temptation of adultery?” Levi softly repeated her words.
