HYBRID HOOK 19
Abbie whispered the address for tech support her cell phone was at and the taxi driver nodded. The trip was a little long, more than thirty minutes, when she arrived, she paid the driver and got out. He entered the store and smiled at the attendant.
- Hello remember me? - she said.
- Clear. Your device is ready. — the boy went to the back of the store and brought the cell phone.
- Thanks. Is everything alright now?
“Yes, fixed and paid for, your brother paid for it when he brought it in last week.
- Thanks.
Abbie picked up her cell phone, walked to a more discreet spot, and sat down on the sidewalk to turn it on. It was loaded and several messages arrived from the telephone operator and from Megan, her friend with whom she had been in touch again by phone after running away from Markus.
She saved Breeze's number and then texted Megan.
"Hello all well?" It didn't take more than a minute for the answer to come.
"My God, Abbie, is that you?"
"Yes. Long story. Can I come over?"
"Take the old road, jump over the old neighbor's wall and go under the back fence. I'll be waiting for you behind the house. Your brother came looking for you here."
"Shit. Did he hurt you?"
"No, he was even kind. He said that you had disappeared and he suspected that a Markus had found you. He was badly hurt."
"Motherfucker. He lied, I'll tell you everything but please don't say anything to anyone, please."
"Never, Abbie. Come soon."
Abigail blocked the cell phone screen, checked if the location was activated but it wasn't and then she started walking, she still had a little money, the taxi driver charged a lot for the distance and wasn't going to spend what was left, she didn't know for sure her destination.
As he walked through the shadows, he thought of his feelings for Hook. She fell in love so fast it scared her, being far away was like feeling like a piece of her body had been ripped off. A piece of your heart.
He also thought about that human woman with an innocent appearance that he trusted and betrayed him, he didn't know who she was or the whole story but he hated the bitch.
She felt a little aimless, she didn't know what her life would be like from now on but she was a survivor, she was resilient and she would overcome all of this, the betrayal, the sadness, the longing for Hook, the danger. If Adam was still alive and looking for her, surely Markus was too.
He hoped the bruises Megan saw on him were the result of being hit by a car. Son of a bitch, motherfucker. If I had a gun and knew how to shoot it, you would be dead. He can suddenly imagine how Hook felt with his thirst for revenge, he also wanted to hunt down Adam and Markus and make them pay.
The culprit, however, was his father in the first place, but the bastard had already died of cirrhosis a year ago.
Abbie walked quickly and looked around and back seeing nothing suspicious. Nobody was following her, maybe Adam and Markus doubted her ability to think and took a while to find her. By then, she would already have some way to defend herself.
He would get a job and stay in a cheap hotel, he couldn't stay with Megan, that would put her in danger, he would just stay there for now.
Almost forty minutes walking, Abbie felt her legs aching and wobbly, but the pain was nothing compared to her aching heart. She spotted the back of Megan's house, passed the old neighbor's yard, jumped the wall, ducked and went through the fence and finally was in her friend's yard.
Somehow she felt safe.
Megan quickly appeared in the doorway, her eyes lit up when she saw her best friend and she smiled with emotion. The two hugged and shed some tears.
— I miss you. - Megan sniffled - Let's go inside, come on.
- I missed you so much. Abbie said as they entered.
Megan locked the door and opened the fridge taking out a pitcher of juice, went to the cupboard and got a glass.
"Sit down, have a little juice." You look bad. I'm going to make us some food. Abbie sat down and poured herself some juice.
- Thank you for the compliment. You look great. - she smiled.
— I gained a few kilos in the last few weeks, but my life was being hell, I found refuge in food. Megan said walking around the kitchen preparing lunch.
- What's up?
“Johnny was chasing me.
"Your ex fiancé?" Didn't he work with the Hybrids ? I remember you telling me once...
- Yea. I'm really scared, I already told the police but the bastard is the sheriff's son, it didn't help. I live locked in this house and I only go out in hiding, I even put cameras in the backyard.
- Our! And how are you doing for work?
— I said I caught a contagious virus and I'm working remotely, I shop on my cell phone and I get everything here. The last time I ventured out, he followed me and tried to…you know.
- My God! I didn't imagine your life was like this, you didn't say anything when we texted.
— I didn't want to make you worried, I have the situation under control. He never tried to break into my house, thank God.
— How sick! Has he ever hurt you?
— He attacked me and that's why we broke up, he didn't accept it and kept chasing me, he said that I left him for another man, that I didn't sleep with him but with another and that if I don't go back to him my life will be hell because he will not let any man near me.
“He's crazy! Abbie was outraged.
“He's tri-crazy. That's why I sent you around the back. Although I haven't seen him watching my house for three days, he might still be out there.
Abbie got up and hugged her friend.
"You're not well, are you?" Abbie asked her best friend.
“No, I'm in shit. Is that you? His look is sad.
“You know how to read people. We're in shit, friend.
Megan walked over to Abbie and brushed a lock of her hair out of her face.
“I missed you and someone to talk to. Should I get chocolates?
— I miss eating chocolate. - she smiled.
- Damn it! Sorry Abbie, you've been in trouble and you've been listening to me talk about myself. Please tell me, what happened to you? I'm really sorry, please.
“Hey, calm down. It's okay, you're in trouble too. Take the chocolate, I'll tell you everything.
Abbie has spent the last half hour telling Megan everything, from when her father sold her, what she suffered with Markus, Adam helping her and then betraying her. He stopped at the last part, when he had said goodbye to Hook the night before and left the gates of HybridFalls with a broken heart.
Megan finished making lunch and was gaping.
- Wow. “Wow!” he whispered. she exclaimed, biting into a piece of chocolate.
Abbie laughed at her friend's reaction and smiled.
"Adam is a son of a bitch, your father is a bastard, that Markus is filthy and that Hook... I don't know what to say, shit... You suffered so much and had sex with a Hybrid ... Yeah... Give me a hug. You are so strong. Abbie hugged Megan for comfort.
“I know I'll get over it. I am well. he lamented.
— I know you're not well but I admire your attitude of not whining about a man. It was good?
“Good is an understatement. It was wonderful. Tears filled her eyes.
"Why aren't you with him now?"
"He doesn't feel the same way about me." Hates human beings and we only had sex because we were alone and turned on. She remembered him saying that to her.
— Oh, friend. I'm so sorry...
- Everything is fine. — she said, wanting to cry — It's not like he tricked me, I did it myself. I felt too much for him. He has traumas and... —he let some tears fall — I wanted to be able to help him, but now it's gone, it's gone, we'll never see each other again. He hated the pain in his heart when he thought that.
“I'll help you, Abbie. We are best friends forever. Stay here with me, no one needs to know you're here.
“I'm afraid Markus and Adam will find me and if they find out you've helped me… I don't want to put you in danger.
“I deal with a maniacal stalker ex-fiancé, he's not that dangerous but he's crazy. — she lowered her voice — I bought a gun and I'm training self-defense online. Please stay, we will deal with our problems together.
Abbie hesitated, afraid for her friend, but she knew Megan and her determination.
- It's all right. But you're going to have to teach me self-defense.
Abbie smiled. He had to move on even though he had the feeling that his problems were far from over.
