HYBRID HOOK 24
Abbie had been awake for a few minutes, her head throbbing even after taking pain medication, she felt groggy and sleepy as if she hadn't just woken up from a fifteen hour sleep.
She was alone in the room after the nurse Paul had given her pain medicine and changed the drip sticking to her arm. She was stressed about not having news from Megan, when the nurse was there she couldn't ask because her throat felt closed and dry, her voice was unable to come out.
Suddenly the bedroom door opened and a familiar face walked in, Hook looked at her with his beautiful, exotic green eyes making her heart race immediately. He was wild looking and tired looking, he was all in black with an OH (Hybrid Organization.) uniform and his hair was messed up.
Abbie found the sight sexy.
- Hey. he said huskily and smiled at her.
Abbie frowned in confusion. Hook smiling at me?
- Hi how are you? she asked worriedly.
— I ask. How are you? His gaze was filled with anguish.
“My head is exploding and I'm a little dizzy. Where is Megan? She is fine?
- Yes OK. She broke her leg and spent the night here for observation but was discharged, Blade took her to our house.
Abbie took a deep, relieved breath.
— Her house... — he lamented — Was it really bad?
“The front has collapsed, there are only two full rooms left, it's impossible to live there for now. The OH (Organização Híbridos.) will cover the expenses of the repair of the house, your friend said that she did not have insurance.
"What about bloody Adam?" She felt anger stir in her at the memory of her brother.
- Stuck. It's all under control now, don't worry about anything but getting better. Need something? Are you hungry? Hook stroked her cheek.
“Thank you so much for coming to help us. — she thanked sincerely — And yes, I'm hungry.
"I'll have them bring you breakfast." He pulled a radio communicator from his waistband and ordered.
He sat on the edge of the bed and looked deep into her eyes, Hook's expression was soft and the way he looked at her was as if she were important to him.
“What's wrong, Hook? Abbie swallowed hard.
- Anything. Why do you think something is wrong? He tensed suddenly.
I didn't know where to start telling her that I had gotten her pregnant.
— You're so kind to me, you answered my questions without telling me to shut up, you touched my face affectionately and even smiled. YOU SMILED. Whatever it is, say it, I can handle it. Am I going to walk away? She moved her legs feeling them normally.
"Don't fuss, you need to lie down." he said placing his hands on her shoulders to keep her lying down.
"Then why are you here and talking to me normally?" As far as I know you don't care about me or anything like that, you even hate me for being human as you made a point of emphasizing very well. Am I between life and death? You lied and Megan didn't make it? What terrible news do you have to give me?
Abbie saw the blood drain from Hook's face. He inhaled and exhaled and decided to just reveal.
- You're pregnant.
- How it is? Abbie cocked her ears at him thinking she was hearing things.
“You're pregnant, Abbie. Hook repeated.
She just looked at him in astonishment and then gave a forced laugh.
“I'm not in a joking mood, Hook.
“I'm not kidding, Abbie. Dr. Ali noticed a change in her uterus, a gestational sac is starting to form and you can hardly see it, but she said it's there.
- This is impossible! hybrids are not sterile?
“We can impregnate human females. I smelled you and I wasn't in heat, otherwise I wouldn't have dumped my seed inside you. I'm sorry.
- In heat?
“Ovulating.
- Holy crap. - Abbie swore under her breath - But... What do you mean? It's only been three or four days since we slept together for the first time...
— It's a fast pregnancy, so everything develops fast, the doctor said that from three to five days it can already be detected.
Hook hated the tears he saw come from her eyes. She didn't know anything, she thought she could never get pregnant, but he did. It was yet another burden of guilt on her shoulders.
"I swore you were sterile." Why didn't you tell me? —more tears welled up and the male started to feel miserable. A common feeling lately.
“Humans cannot know. No human knows except Brenner Smith because his daughter Rebekah is mated to Brawn, a hybrid male and they have a calf.
"I must be dreaming…" Abbie squeezed the skin on her arm.
"Don't do that, don't hurt yourself!" Hook growled.
Abbie sighed, it hadn't sunk in yet.
"So... are there hybrid babies?" she asked, still incredulous.
He hesitated but Abbie needed to know as she was carrying a hybrid baby.
“Yes, some. But no one outside the gates or any humans who aren't mated to hybrids can know that. Children would be in danger, they have tried to kidnap females just because they were involved with our people, you can imagine what they would try with children. Medicinne tried to get us to breed, but thank God the attempts were never successful. Even the anti-hybrid fanatics think that we will die with time and they won't leave us alone anymore, if they know that we can have our offspring, our life and that of the children would be hell.
"I see..." she murmured looking down at her lap.
She refused to look at Hook, she was confused and stunned by the news, not knowing what to say or what to do next. I just needed to digest it all.
— Abbie, I know that humans sometimes terminate pregnancies, I would like to ask you not to do that. Please. If you don't want the child, you can leave it with me at HíbridoFalls, you just have to sign a confidentiality agreement. It will be a strong and healthy baby even though you are human. She finally looked at him with pain expressed in her eyes.
- What? Do you think I would? Hate me so much that you think I'd leave my child with you and walk away? And you still say the baby will be healthy DESPITE I'm human? What you mean? What human being would be a disability for a child? he exclaimed angrily. He felt his blood boiling and his emotions out of control.
'That's not what I meant…' He tried to rephrase but Abbie cut him off.
“You must be very worried now that you're going to have a baby with someone you hate and despise, but don't worry, I won't demand anything from you. I don't want your hate around an innocent child because she will also be part of me so that means you will hate her.
Hook growled in annoyance that his assertions hurt so badly.
"It's no use growling at me."
“I'm not snarling at you.
"So what's that noise over there?" she gestured.
“It's not directed at you. - he replied trying to remain calm - You need to calm down.
“There's no calming me down, Hook. - She looked at him narrowing her eyes - I'll have to live here forever, won't I?
- Yea. If anyone found out that we might have children, Medicinne officials who are still at large would do anything to get their diseased hands on the children. They would do the same or worse than what they did to us.
- I get it. Abbie whispered with tears in her eyes.
"What did you mean about not wanting me around?" Are you going to forbid me to see my son?
"Will you recognize a half-human child?"
“Hybrid babies are full hybrids, they're practically miniature of their parents, and they're all boys.
“Oh, is that why you're showing interest? Why is it going to be fully hybrid and its miniature replicated image? If by chance children had traits of human mothers, would you want that child? Your insinuations only reinforce what I think you are: a big idiot. But you know what, Hook? Your son will come out of a human, he will feed on one and he may not have my features but he will have my human blood running through his veins.
“Abbie, let me explain. You're getting it all wrong, that's not what I meant. I want the child regardless of everything, I want to be his father.
“Of course you're the father, as far as I can remember I've been with no other man than you.
“I'm saying I want to be a part of creating it. I want to take care of my son and you too.
— It's okay for children, but I can take care of myself, you hated me until yesterday and now just because I'm pregnant with your child, doesn't mean you have to pretend you care about me.
“Abbie… I care. I feel guilty for letting her go when I knew she was running from Markus and in danger. Now I feel guilty for getting her pregnant too. When I saw you under that rubble, the reality hit me that I would go crazy if anything worse happened. I was desperate. What I mean is, I hate human beings, but I don't hate you, I never have.
Abbie's heart skipped a beat and tears welled up in her eyes. It felt like a dream for her to have Hook say that. But it quickly dawned on her that if she wasn't pregnant none of this would be happening, he wouldn't be in that room to give her the information and he wouldn't be telling her.
"So you feel guilty about me hurting myself and being pregnant, and you think taking care of me will lessen your guilt?" You're only here now saying this because I'm pregnant with your child.
“It's not—” she cut him off.
“It doesn't matter now, Hook. Don't feel obligated to me for this, I'm a strong woman who's been through a lot, I can deal with being pregnant even when it wasn't part of my plan. You don't have to feel sorry for me and keep saying things to make me feel better. I'll be fine, I always say that and I know I will.
“Abbie, listen to me, you've got this all wrong.
— My head hurts, I'm sleepy and hungry, I'd like to eat something and be alone, I need to think. she said with tears sliding down her cheeks.
“Your food should be coming soon but I'll check anyway.
- Thanks. His voice barely came out.
Hook left the room with a lump in his throat. He'd stated so many times that he hated humans for all he'd suffered, and that included Abbie just because she was human, that it would now take some convincing to convince her otherwise.
He didn't hate her, he hated the attraction he felt for a race he had always despised. However, the feeling of almost losing her brought her feelings to light, but maybe it was too late, she wouldn't believe that he wanted her just because she fell in love and yes just because she got pregnant.
He had screwed up and he didn't know what to do to fix it.
