Chapter 42 - Beta of Silver Moon Pack
CELESTINA VILLARAMA'S POV
From what I've felt with Siege's hands on my body, I knew that there was something wrong with him. The alpha who acted so rudely towards me, suddenly changing his way of approaching... just doesn't seem right. "Did you have a drink or something? Why are you getting clingy out of the blue? You're making me feel awkward," I murmured as I gently tried to remove his hands.
I heard the alpha clicking his tongue. "Maybe I am drunk..." He immediately stepped backwards as soon as the beta arrived in front of us. "Go back to the pack house with Kris. I'll be roaming around the area first; I have doubts that Leo really left; he's not the type of person who would willingly obey my words," he said before he disappeared from my sight.
"What was that all about?" Master Kristoffer questioned me with his eyebrows raised. "Did I just witness my brother showing his love to you?" He faked a laugh before he invited me to walk beside him.
I shrugged both of my shoulders. "I don't know; he said that he was drunk," I honestly answered, adding that I was shocked by how the alpha acted too. The two of us were silent until we reached the insides of the mansion. There weren't a lot of people gathered in the lobby anymore since it was past midnight. Though I can still sense some guarding outside.
Raising one of my hands, I gestured to the beta that I'd be making my way to my room. However, he stopped me before I could reach the staircase. "You still haven't had dinner, have you? I could hear your stomach rumbling." He pointed at my stomach.
I showed a small smile. "I don't have time for that, Master Kristoffer. I want to have a rest; I still need to process what just happened today..." I sighed to express my exhaustion.
Master Kristoffer walked behind me, placing both of his hands on my shoulders. "We can talk about what's running through your mind as you eat. It's better to have someone to talk to anyway," he insisted as he pushed me to the dining hall.
Maids who were still awake instantly served us a meal. The beta had to return some of the portions that would just be wasted if not eaten. He sat right beside my chair as he gave me the sign to begin eating. Minutes passed, and he asked, "Are you curious about the reason why Leonardo blamed us for losing his mate?"
I nodded my head. "I could see the agony in his eyes when he held me captive that time. I was terrified, yes, but the feeling that I should keep him company was stronger than my desire to run away. I felt that he wanted to have someone to stick around with him," I replied.
Leonardo was the only person who made me think that way. I knew that I placed my life in a risky situation earlier, but I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't choose to understand him.
Kristoffer leaned his back on the chair, placing his hands behind the back of his head as he glanced at the ceiling. "Leonardo was the beta of Lucas in the Silver Moon Pack. He used to be so happy whenever the four of us were together, but everything changed after a certain day..." he began telling the story of Leonardo.
Leonardo's mate was named Lara. They have been friends since birth, and fortunately, they were fated mates. She was the only woman meant for him, and despite the constant chances that the moon goddess gave Leo, he never accepted anyone else to be his mate. His heart got completely blocked by a thick wall.
The Crimson Moon and the Silver Moon Packs were actually allies before. They had no intention of harming one another, and they didn't crave superiority and power because they had equal strength when it came to hunting prey.
Although their perspectives began to change when Leo turned his back on their alliance.
Kristoffer was the person tasked by Leo to protect Lara while he was away with the rest of the hunters in the Silver Moon Pack, and he knew that Siege would also be there, so he was confident that nothing would happen while he wasn't around. Not until he heard the news in the middle of his hunt that Lara was killed by a rogue. It was the beginning of Leo's hatred for the two.
Leo urged Lucas to take Ice with them, which explains why Ice betrayed the Crimson Moon and sided with the Silver Moon Pack. Both Lucas and Leo played mind-tricks on Ice, hoping that his life would be better with them as his leaders.
"Why didn't Beta Leo just take his mate, Lara, with him in his hunt? She's not a kid; she could've just stayed at their pack house or something... I can't understand what led Beta Leo to ask for you and Master Siege to protect her," I commented while continuously shaking my head, making him stop talking.
"I also have no clue about that, Celeste. After Lara's death, both Siege and I had no chance to converse with him about it. Lara also had no opportunity to speak, since she had an instant death... No one among our healers could recover her health back, and she couldn't regenerate because of the wolfsbane," Master Kristoffer answered with a soft sigh.
"Why do I feel like you're missing... Beta Leo?"
"Who wouldn't?" Kristoffer scoffed. "Go on and ask Siege. I'm sure that even Siege misses messing around with Leo and Lucas. We could have stayed as friends and allies if only Lara didn't die that day," he added.
I scrunch my nose. "Master Siege doesn't seem to be close with him though... I mean, even Beta Leo feared the alpha's strength." The maids cleared up the table as we were still in the middle of our conversation. "Did Master Siege already have a fight against him?"
Master Kristoffer shook his head once. "They aren't children who would carelessly fight, unless there's a war involved between the packs." He stood up, slightly bowing his head to face me with a serious look. "You better be careful from now on, Celeste. Leo wouldn't just stand by and watch either Siege or me having fun with a woman," he warned me.
My lips formed a frown, knowing that Leo might still be mourning for the death of his mate.
"You're not Celestina's mate, Kris. Stop acting like you are."
