Chapter 94 - The Sacrificial Leader
CELESTINA VILLARAMA'S POV
I screamed to stop the Moon Goddess from erasing the portal's existence. I've been desperately waiting for it to show itself for years, and now that I finally have the chance to get back to my world, I won't let Sarina ruin my dream.
"Don't do it, Celestina. Do you know what will happen to you if you kill Sarina?" Siege questioned me. His voice was still filled with authority, but there was also a hint of concern in it. "You're going to end up with the same fate as her; you'll die the very second that she dies. That's why there still wasn't anyone who dared to take her life, since it's the same as killing themselves," he explained.
Sarina chuckled upon hearing the alpha's explanation. "If you don't want her to take my life, would you do the honor of killing me?" she asked out of pure curiosity.
I glanced at Siege, waiting for what his response would be, but his mouth remained shut for minutes. That silence was enough for me to confirm that he's not prepared to offer his life for my sake, and that wasn't an issue for me since I would've thought the same way.
Ice approached me from behind, and he placed one of his hands on my shoulder. Although he immediately removed it when he felt the strong gaze of Siege on his hand. "Your mate is scary," he commented with a trembling laugh. "Anyway, would that portal really lead us back to our world? Doesn't that mean..." He couldn't continue what he wanted to say.
"What?" I looked at him with my eyebrows raised, but he still refused to finish his statement.
"Ice, don't tell her about your plan. You know that she's going to stop you if you tell her about it," Ace stepped in between, pulling his twin away from me. "I know that I might've been rough with you these previous days, but I hope the thought of sacrificing yourself for the sake of all of us here to live wouldn't cross your mind," he told me with a serious look in his eyes.
"I don't have any plans on dying, Ace. I still have to give birth to the next heir of the Crimson Moon Pack and fulfill my responsibilities as Luna, their mother, and Siege's mate," I confidently said, gaslighting myself that I had the ability to take the Moon Goddess down without putting my life at risk.
While we were having a conversation with regards to our plan, we suddenly heard numerous howls and cries of the wolves living in the forest. We roamed our eyes around, only to realize that most of the forest was already on fire.
"I don't think that Sarina is kidding around about setting this realm into ruins," Stella commented. She had her clenched fist in front of her chest, sympathizing with the rogues who were crying, as if she were close with all of them.
I couldn't feel the same for the rogues, since I experienced nothing good from them. "Those rogues were astray to begin with; they deserve to die," I replied.
"Sarina is probably trying to let us feel that she can do anything, as long as she can think of it," Kris muttered, holding his chin while contemplating a possible plan that will let us succeed. "Can't you think of any of Sarina's weaknesses, Celestina?" he asked me, making everyone's focus be directed at me.
Heaving out a loud sigh, I shook my head.
Ace pointed over to my necklace. "Isn't that pendant connected to Sarina in some way?" he asked.
I held onto the golden necklace, and I removed it from my neck. "I'm still unsure of what this pendant can do. Leo was able to utilize something from this, though," I said, letting them hold the necklace.
While they were busy, I took a peek at the Moon Goddess and was instantly creeped out when I saw her staring right into my soul. She was patiently waiting for us, and it made me feel like she could easily defeat us, no matter what the outcome of our plan would be.
I crouched on the ground, hugging both of my legs. "Can't we just get this over with? I want to go back home and be with my parents," I softly mumbled.
"Are our parents still alive?" Stella asked me, and I couldn't help but look at her with disbelief. "I mean, didn't Sarina destroy the world you lived in? I wasn't there to begin with, but we're blood-related in this realm, and that's because we were born as sisters in some alternative universe," she explained.
"I'm not sure where the portal would actually bring us, Stella. If we enter that portal and it leads us back to my world, then that means that I'd end up being Ice's lover instead of Siege's mate. There are no werewolves residing there, so I don't think that mates and titles still matter," I mumbled, hesitating whether it was the right statement or not.
I don't want to let the alpha think that I still have feelings for Ice.
The alpha wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Whichever world that portal brings us, we would still be the only ones for each other, Celestina," he whispered in my ear. His forehead was touching the side of my head, and he was softly rubbing it on me. "And besides, Ice won't have the courage to steal you away from me, even if we can't take our wolf spirits there, since he clearly knows that you no longer have feelings for him, not even admiration," he added.
Siege wasn't mistaken. I can only see Ice as one of my friends now, and that goes the same for everyone here except for the alpha.
I stood up, and everyone else did. "I know this plan might pose a huge risk, but are all of you ready?" I asked, wondering if they still wanted to continue or surrender.
All of them nodded their heads at the same time that Ice advanced. "Let me be the one to lead our team, Celestina," he mumbled.
His eyes looked lifeless, and it made me worry that he was thinking of something risky, but I still gave him my permission to be the leader, even if the alpha was around.
But...
I shouldn't have let Ice go if I knew what was running through his mind.
