It was well past midnight when Tyler and I finally got into our new room.
The elderly gentleman had actually kept his word and even woke up the housekeeper who was already asleep.
According to his own statement, he had been told that we would not be back until tomorrow and therefore had not counted on us today. According to her, we were lucky that she had already prepared the room.
Actually, the woman was quite nice, she was just a bit grumpy because she had been woken up so late and she probably had to get up early.
She also disappeared right after we were in the room. Which was understandable considering the time.
The room itself was quite plain. A double bed, a wardrobe, two bedside tables on either side of the bed, each with a lamp, and a door leading to a tiny bathroom with no windows. The main room itself had only one window with plain white and gray curtains.
"If the other rooms here are like that, I can understand Jared and the many werewolves with their own house in the territory quite well. This is tiny, you can't live in here!" he said indignantly. I, on the other hand, just looked at him with a raised eyebrow. The room was only slightly smaller than the standard apartment for families in the cities. Although this one Yes, they only consisted of bedrooms and a bathroom. After all, since the revolution, we humans had to go to extra facilities to eat. There were only exceptions for the sick and bedridden people. Therefore, according to the werewolves, people needed much less
space and the dwellings became considerably smaller as a result.
Only from the fifth resident of an apartment were people entitled to a larger one and then it became fewer again, because someone moved out, they had to go back to the smaller one.
But it was probably the worst for single people. They did not get their own apartments but lived in shared accommodation. Since nobody really wanted that, many people, especially young people, lived with their parents for a long time until they found someone they wanted to live with. And my sister will probably be living in such a communal accommodation by now. According to some stories, these should either be rooms that were like mini prison cells or consist of large shared dormitories.
We had both in our town, so unfortunately I didn't know what type of institution Maria ended up in. But if Tyler really kept his word, I could finally see my sister again and if Tyler had the position as alpha, I could also try to influence him to make things better for the people.
"Oh Lily, don't look like that." Tyler spoke to me.
I was briefly confused myself, but remembered why I looked at him so skeptically. I could only shake my head at his sentence. For a human this would be Room normal, even if they weren't just the two of us, like the two of us, but the four of us His room with his parents, where he lived alone before me, was an incredible and unattainable luxury for people today.
"But you have to admit that it's quite necessary to set it up here."
I had to agree with him, but we probably wouldn't stay here in this room forever, because I couldn't imagine it with the best will in the world "That the Alpha and the Luna lived in such a small room. After all, they live in a huge shack and certainly didn't think too little when it came to the room layout. And since Tyler would soon be the next Alpha here, then he would probably be entitled to the premises of the current Alpha, at least that's what I assumed.
Although I wasn't all that excited about his closeness right now, Tyler had been snuggling up to me all night. He slept like a baby while I barely closed my eyes. Accordingly, I was pretty exhausted when Tyler woke up in the morning.
He probably noticed right away that I hadn't slept much and looked at me with concern.
"Oh Lily," he sighed, pulling me closer into his arms. "The next few days are going to be a bit stressful for both of us, but I promise I'll always be by your side and once I'm Alpha, I will I'll do everything I can to get you to see your sister, but until then it's probably best not to say anything to the current alpha or his pack, after all they're all still committed to their alpha and he might thwart our plan. "The current alpha is a strong believer in the position of strictly separating human mates from their families once they've been recognized. I just think that's crazy. That only alienates the mates and their families."
Tyler sighed loudly once and sat up.
"We both have to get up now. It usually doesn't go so well when the alpha couple, or in our case, us as the future alpha couple, don't show up to mealtimes with the pack." With that
he got completely out of bed and waited for me to get up.
Under his sympathetic I struggled out of bed and out of the warm blanket with a look that assured me that he too would rather stay in bed.
Tyler turned to the closet, which we realized the night before had clothes in there for us. These didn't fit us 100% perfectly, but that would probably have been a little too weird.
So we got ready and then we made our way to the main room, stumbling a bit behind Tyler as I was just exhausted from the night before.
When we arrived there was still a lot of activity, although it was apparently a little later. For the first time I saw, or for the first time registered for the first time since I was here, children. A few women and men and a horde of children were sitting at one of the tables.
There were easily 20 of them, between the ages of four and twelve, who weren't as quiet as the other adults here, but didn't make an insane noise like such a large group of human children would have done.
But I didn't have long to get a closer look at the group of children as Tyler was already pulling me over to another table.
Luckily this time it wasn't upstairs where Alpha and Luna were currently sitting and having breakfast.
Among other things, I could make out the twins at the table, even if there were a few more people sitting here. They even made two seats free for us, which irritated me a bit. After all, it was a rule made up by the werewolves that I was supposed to sit on Tyler's lap. But since nobody said anything and the people here have vacated two seats, I sat down on one of the empty seats. I actually waited for someone to say something about it, but nothing happened.
However, Tyler remained standing, which unsettled me a bit. when he tapped me on the shoulder, I pretty much expected him to tell me I was doing something wrong. However, he said to me: "I'll get something to eat for both of us. Do you want anything special?”
I just shook my head and stared in amazement at Tyler as he walked away from the table. None of the others at the table seemed to notice my confusion.
