The days flew by. The Alpha had Tyler pretty busy and I had barely seen him. The twins had been with their mate almost continuously, and I'd spent most of the time with Milo. He had panicked quite a bit, since he would become an omega on the coming full moon.
Anyway, it was now the one before the full moon. After the day tomorrow everything would be a whole lot different. Tyler and I were in our room, and our remaining room, respectively. It was the last night we would spend in this room, which wasn't really a shame. Although we've been in here for quite some time, there was nothing personal about Tyler or me. Only our clothes were in the closet.
In hindsight, it was a bit strange that there were always clean clothes here. I had absolutely no recollection of Tyler doing any laundry, and neither did I. We always put our things in an extra basket that was in our small bathroom.
But did that mean that someone just came in here every day and took our things to wash and later put them back in the closet?
That was a bit weird in my opinion. You could also have said that you take the laundry to a certain place and someone else washes it there. It was just a lot more work if you always had to get the dirty clothes out of every room first.
"It's kind of weird knowing they're throwing a party downstairs and we're not invited, isn't it?" Tyler asked me, laughing lightly afterwards. Yes, that was right, too In the evening there was a big party to say goodbye to the old alpha, the luna and the beta pair. They would leave the pack's territory tomorrow during the day and look for a new home somewhere. I didn't know if it was really so necessary that they would have to leave the territory, but honestly I could imagine that there could be trouble if the old and new Alpha had different views, and that Tyler was different from the last Alpha was pretty obvious I think.
It was celebrated quite loudly downstairs and we, or Tyler, were clearly told that we weren't wanted there, since we weren't yet an official part of the pack, or Tyler. As a person, I was still a little off the mark anyway.
They wanted to say goodbye to the top of the pack. From a werewolf perspective, this Alpha had led the pack to gigantic size and prestige. The fact that I saw it a little differently as a person was probably self-explanatory.
If I understood correctly, the alpha room on the top floor would probably be renovated in a hurry tomorrow. At the pace that werewolves were capable of, I didn't put it past them. But I really wondered how the rooms were. Since it was the alpha couple's private quarters, no one else apart from them had probably been in the rooms for decades. I also couldn't imagine walking up the stairs to the top floor several times a day. That wasn't a problem for a werewolf, but as a human I really didn't feel like it. Even though I knew that there were definitely people who had to walk up to such a floor several times a day, I was already exhausted when I had to walk up to the apartment Maria and I shared on the second floor.
The Alpha, the Luna, Brandon and Bea had left early in the morning. There was a kind of controlled confusion in the pack, after all the pack was leaderless at the moment, but everyone seemed to know what they wanted and should do. Tyler and I were kind of an over. There was no real task for us.
In any case, the hours passed until something would finally happen, painfully slowly.
Tyler was getting noticeably more and more nervous. I could probably understand that, after all, today was probably the most important night of his life. He would finally become an Alpha and lead a pack of his own. As a person, I probably couldn't understand how important this night was for him.
Did he think it was a pity that I wasn't there?
I've been wondering that ever since the twins asked me to look after their mate that night.
I mean, I was his mate. Did you want to have her with you, even if she was still a human being? Or was that just a pure werewolf thing?
They were in their animal form throughout the whole thing. I would only stand by as a human anyway.
It was slowly starting to get dark outside. Tyler's gaze wandered nervously towards the window more and more often, as if to gauge when it would finally be late enough to leave. Eventually he had to wait until just before sunset.
When the time finally came, he obviously had to restrain himself from storming outside like a small child. With deliberate steps he made his way out, I followed him.
Outside the door he stopped and turned to me. This is where we would part ways for the next few hours.
"I have to go now.", Tyler said and breathed a small kiss on my forehead to say goodbye. "Are you sure that you can find the way on your own or should I still accompany you?" I shook my head. It wasn't that far and Tyler and I had wasted enough time already. I honestly didn't want to imagine the consequences if he missed the still alpha of this pack. The final meeting of the Alphas was, Tyler told me, one of the most important things that would happen at today's meeting.
"Okay, but take care." I nodded and squeezed his hand. How I would have liked to say 'you too' now. After all, Tyler was important to me and I was kind of afraid of what would happen today. After all, I knew I wasn't really used to it. All this werewolf stuff was still a bit alien to me. I'd spent some time with werewolves and I'd learned a couple of things at school, but I felt like I was in a book with a thousand Turn pages only in the foreword.
Tyler squeezed my hand as well. He pulled me towards him and hugged me. "I love you.", Tyler whispered in my ear and let go of me. He smiled at me one last time and turned around. With a loud crack he turned into a wolf, tearing his clothes. He shook himself briefly and then ran to the woods.
I was still looking at the spot where Tyler had disappeared between the dark shadows of the trees long after I could no longer see him.
His last words were still buzzing in my head... 'I love you'.
"Lily?" I turned around, startled. I hadn't realized that anyone else was outside besides Tyler and me. Milo was standing behind me. He was shaking all over and had a panicked expression on his face. I looked at him questioningly. I mean It was also an important day for him. "I- I... I'm scared." Tears ran down his cheeks.
