In bright light it was undeniable that some new little scars had appeared on my neck. I couldn't help but stare at her the whole time.
"You know, we've been thinking about how best to do the bites. Usually the companion bites one side of the neck and the alpha bites the other. It can be quite problematic when the companion bite overlaps with the alpha bite. We finally worked it out so that my bite is on the same level as the alpha but a bit higher on the neck."
I looked into my reflection searching.
"Here." Luke said, pointing to my right side.
"The bottom scars are from the alpha bite, the others are mine. The ones on the other are Jared's."
Uncertainly I ran my fingers over them, but they were really almost imperceptible. Almost as if they were already a few years old.
"Is it really only a few days ago?" I asked him quietly.
"Yes, you woke up almost 48 hours after the full moon. The bites from Jared and I are almost four days ago. The wounds heal pretty quickly "However, most people who have experienced the bite complain of pain for a few days. However, this is phantom pain, i.e. pain that is not real but only imagined. People are simply convinced that such a bite must be in pain for a few days and then have the corresponding symptoms. Only the symptoms after the alpha bite, which leads to the transformation, are real."
"This is all pretty confusing," I confessed quietly.
"I believe you. It probably is for anyone who wasn't raised in a pack."
"What I just don't understand.", I began hesitantly: "Why three bites? If I understood you correctly, only the last one would have been enough."
"That's a perfectly valid question and quite simple to answer. It is forbidden to walk a man who is not a wolf's companion. Without the constant companionship that provides support and direction, bitten people are pretty lost.
Most of the time it's also accompanied by quite a psychological problem." "
That still doesn't answer my question."
"The mate's bite binds the human to the werewolf. Only then is it possible for the wolf to be the support he needs." "
You still decided my life. I never wanted that. Damn it! I still don't want that!" I literally screamed at him at the end.
"I understand that you are angry. And yes, it's your life, but your life is vital to our bond." "
It's just a wannabe obsession!"
"It's not an obsession. It's a fact for us werewolves. Life without companions is meaningless for most werewolves. We're not imagining it. We feel what we feel and as soon as you transform yourself at the next full moon you will feel it too. The bite created an inseparable bond that not even our deaths can sever."
The whole thing would have been easy for me if he had also yelled at me. But he just stayed calm. He explained everything to me in a calm voice. You could think so I was the crazy one here.
After all, that's what he and his brother did to me.
Damn it! They turned me into a beast.
My father himself would even put up with it.
I've become what my family always feared. A werewolf.
A beast that must transform into an animal on a full moon.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
"Please don't worry. Jared and I are here for you. You are our mate and
Slowly and still a little unsteadily I trotted across the forest floor.
It had taken me some time this morning, but I was able to get back into wolf form.
It was still unfamiliar, but it hurt a lot less each time.
My gait wasn't quite smooth yet, but in my opinion it was relatively passable.
Every now and then I got tangled up and almost fell down, but somehow I managed to make up for it.
I probably had to struggle the most with the uneven ground, which constantly tempted me to stumble.
Meanwhile, Jared and Luke accompanied me in human form.
"Oh ha, I don't think so."
I looked up in surprise.
Tyler was standing a hundred yards in front of us.
"Lily will be so upset that she wasn't the first to see you on your first outing as a wolf. At the last full moon she spent almost the whole time around your house to see you first.", the alpha started chatting with me, although I obviously couldn't answer. In the meantime, he approached us and nodded in
greeting to the twins.
"And how else does it work?" he asked, then directed more towards the twins.
"So far so normal. Gina is rather cautious and a bit reserved, but seems to be fine so far." Jared replied.
Tyler nodded, "But if I may ask so indirectly: Why is she changing so suddenly? Wasn't that a pretty unpleasant topic yesterday?" "
We clarified that last night.", Luke said: "And then one thing led to another and Gina transformed herself for the first time last night and took her first steps made."
My predecessor would probably have had a slightly different opinion than me, but please take as much time as you need. Unfortunately, you didn't have the choice yourself when it came to the conversion, so you should now be able to use it for as long as necessary."
I looked at Tyler in surprise.
I really didn't expect that statement.
"But please excuse me here. I have to rub my mate in the face that I saw Gina as a wolf before her." the alpha joked, grinning at me and the twins. A quick
flashback to Luke and Jared assured me that they seemed equally confused by Tyler's actions like me.
We watched the alpha briefly as he disappeared back between the bushes between which he had just appeared. Slowly
we started walking again.
"Okay, I'll say Lily will be diving here in the next half hour up." Jared said amused.
"No, I won't give our Luna that long. As long as nothing gets in the way of Tyler and her, she'll be here in the next fifteen minutes.", Luke countered and seemed just as amused as his twin.
