With my heart pounding, I got off the elevator and was now on the right floor. I wasn't scared, nor was I nervous. My heart beat faster and faster when I saw Ava or was about to meet her.
"Sir, can I help you?" a woman spoke to me. I stopped and gave her an annoying look. Wasn't that the 5th woman who stopped me and wanted to "help" me?
"No, I don't need any help!", I replied coldly and finally went to the reception. I stared at Ava, who was bent over a stack of papers. She hadn't noticed me yet, so I cleared my throat.
She lifted her head and all color drained from her face.
"What are you doing here?" she asked angrily.
"Is that how you talk to an important guest of your boss?" I asked her with a grin.
"Even if you were the king, I would talk to you like that!" she hissed at me.
"Miss Mason!" someone suddenly scolded behind me. Ava widened her eyes and got nervous. The older man stepped in front of me and gave me his hand, which I accepted.
"I'm so sorry she's talking to you like that. She's relatively new here. You must be Mr. Black. Come with me."
Now he looked at Ava, who still couldn't speak, nervously.
"I'll have a nice chat with you in private. Later!"
I didn't like the look he gave her at all. It wasn't an 'I'm mad at you - look', but an 'I know how you'll make it up to - look'.
Over my corpse. He won't even dare to even look at Ava anymore.
The old horse ushered me into a meeting room and immediately started talking about work. My mind wandered back to last week's day.
After Alex had stormed into the room and confronted me, I explained everything to him in detail. Seth and Alex decided to help me directly. They also told me that Ava had been working at this company for a week.
That's why I decided to contact the manager. Of course, he was immediately enthusiastic when I said that we wanted to work with his company. Although it wasn't a world famous one like the Black Cooperation.
"What do you say to that?" came a voice.
I hadn't heard a single word he was talking about. But I didn't care. Even if his business idea was absolute nonsense, I'd say yes anyway. I just wanted to come here more often to see Ava. So I answered him: "My lawyer is preparing the contract. I have to go now. I don't have much time."
He nodded and walked me to the door. I said goodbye and looked for Ava, who was no longer at her desk. I followed her scent and stopped in front of the women's bathroom. I could hear her having to stand in front of the sink. She had turned on the faucet and said softly, "He's not that special, girl. Pull yourself together."
I had to smile slightly. So I still had an impact on her. Maybe it wasn't that hard to get her trust back. She felt the attraction between us, just as I felt it.
"Why do I have to meet him of all people? Why can't I just forget him? Damn it, Kian."
Without hesitation, I opened the door and saw her splashing water on her face. When she raised her head and saw me in the mirror, she was startled. She quickly turned off the water and turned around.
"Kian, you must be crazy! Stop chasing after me. Especially here. What do you do if someone comes in?"
I take a few steps toward her until I'm standing right in front of her. I removed a strand of hair from her face that had gotten a little wet from the water. I didn't break eye contact for a second. Her heart was in her throat and she just looked at me in silence.
My eyes wandered to her full lips. Would she push me away if I kissed her? Should I dare? Before I even had a chance to lean forward, another woman walked in. She looked at me in shock and said, "This is the women's room. You can continue cuddling outside."
I laughed as Ava blushed and shyly left the room.
"Sorry!" I said smiling and followed Ava.
"Ava, stop!" I said, gently grabbing her arm.
"Kian, I have to keep working. Can't you just leave me alone? Preferably forever!"
I looked deep into her eyes and answered seriously, "Never."
She looked at me desperately and broke away from my release. With quick steps she went back to her workplace. I smiled painfully and finally left the building. I would stay close as I had a fear something was going to happen later today.
(...)
I saw that many employees had already left the building. Ava hadn't come out yet, so I re-entered the company.
"Sir, we have to lock the building. You are welcome to come back tomorrow morning!" said an employee.
"I'm just picking up my wife. She's still in."
"Who is your wife?" he asked curiously.
"Ava Mason. She just started here."
"Ava? She's married?" he asked disappointed.
I grabbed his collar angrily and said menacingly, "Yes, she is my wife. She is mine alone. If you look at her the wrong way, I'll finish you off. Got it?"
He just nodded anxiously.
"Make sure everyone knows tomorrow."
He nodded again and finally I let go of him. I knew Ava would hate me even more for it. But what should I do? I'm just jealous. I didn't want anyone making eyes at her. Especially not when I wasn't around to kill the guy.
A bad feeling suddenly came over me. I sensed that Ava was near and scared. I quickly walked the last few meters and stopped in front of a door. I could also see the presence of her stupid and soon-to-be-dead boss next to her.
"You embarrassed me, Miss Mason! What would I have done if Mr. Black hadn't been interested in working with us after your performance? Do you know I can terminate her without notice?"
Ava didn't answer. I should help her and protect her. After all, it was my fault too. Besides, I couldn't stand it when someone treated her like that. I put my hand on the doorbell when I suddenly heard words that made me seethe.
