Last chance
I had to get out of there. I nodded my head in her direction and walked away. I saw her hurt but I couldn't linger on it. If I turned then I couldn't have left her. She was the love of my life, my heart and my soul. There is no redemption for me anymore if I repeat my past mistakes. When I was with her my wolf took over me. Though I was grateful for its strength and instincts, it still focused on protecting its mate. It couldn't see or hear past my mate. If I want to make any solid decision I should move away from her putting as much distance between us.
I was only in my boxers but no one looked for a second because we were fine with the body as much as essentials were covered. There wasn't anyone except security outside when the sun had just risen around the horizon it was beautiful, just like my mate. I once again pulled my thoughts away from her. I didn't know how long I would last the sexual tension and the need to possess her was consuming me. I think the marriage won't make any difference to what I feel for her, only worse. My mind and body wanted a release very badly. I was thankful because when I moved out of her bed my body didn't betray me. It could be embarrassing walking out with a hard-on.
I went to my room and changed into something comfortable and went to my office. I was greeted by my Secretary. "I'm surprised to see you here early", I commented as I passed. " It's because I don't have a life outside", she said mechanically. "Greta hopes that that's going to change once I take a wife as my Luna", I said. " I hope so because if not then your sacrifice will go down the drain", she said casually. Her attention went back to the files. I sighed and asked," why do you think I'm sacrificing", I asked. "I'm only 20 years old so I don't know the extent of the relationship between you and your mate in the past year's. But so far what I have seen is the chemistry between you guys is cracking. I can't wait to find a mate", she said enthusiastically. " You don't know what you are saying", I told her absently. I finished my work within an hour and decided to have a go at training.
When I reached there the scene was pretty pathetic guys all sitting side by side. Most of them were wearing dark glasses. It made me smile. "Hi everyone", I greeted them. I got murmurings from them. " What is it you all couldn't handle your drink"? I asked them. "Alpha, you practically ran away from your party after arriving late. We celebrated in your absence", said Tony. " Cuz did you see last night Li was showing those women how to shake ass", Seb said. I chuckled while Liam groaned.
"This is why I never drink but seriously where did you go?", asked Seb. " Nowhere", I said, gritting my teeth. "Ok as long as you did not go to your mate", said Tony laughingly. My look confirmed that his joke wasn't far off. I warned him to shut up. But the truth was out but no one batted an eye. I guess it wasn't that surprising considering she was my mate and Luna my wolf had chosen and it wasn't something that could be taken lightly.
I looked away for a second to see a woman training hard. I asked around and understood that she wanted to join the patrol but her skills were too good. I went there and she bowed before me. I stopped her in his action. I wasn't God, there was no need to know before me every time. I was the one who believed in equality and not the archaic system. I knew that ours was a close-knit group but it was lacking a woman. I should include her in my gang so little girls take it as an example. Her name was Marina who was very delighted to see me. I complimented her on her killer moves which I came to know was taught by her grandfather who fought with me but was maimed in the last war.
My group was all single, that's why they remained as ageless as me. Only Brian discovered his mate recently if they complete the circle and stay together he also might age and die. The rest of us will remain as we are till we find our mates and live with them until we complete a life circle. She was very excited to join our circle. I asked her to keep practising and training. They were ok about her joining her in the group but worried about her being the infiltrate. But I was assured that it could be anyone. When the time comes we will get to know who it was. They looked convinced and after the initial awkwardness, they started training her.
I stayed for a few more minutes and decided to go back to my office. I was greeted by my Lana who looked a little worried. " What's it?", I asked her. "I think you should see something our security forwarded today", she said. I took the tab from her and was in shock to see my mate doing a pool dance. I asked Lana if it was life. She nodded her head and my mate looked intoxicated. I asked Lana to get out of there as soon as possible. She nodded her head.
I tried to concentrate on my work but it was hopeless. Finally, Lana came back. " is she ok"?, I asked her urgently. She shook her head and I grew impatient. I had promised myself that I won't go back to her till I'm positive about what I wanted from her. It seems now she was all I wanted. "She is in pain, Alpha. I hope you leave this nonsense about her staying for the wedding", she said.
" I'm not forcing her to stay here. She would leave if she wanted", I lied. "You know it's not true Alpha if it were then you wouldn't have allowed her to become the maid of honour thereby torturing her", she said slowly. I wasn't ready to hear anything. My head was swimming already with the information. She cares for me the same way I do for her. Hearing it from another person confirmed that. It wasn't a tough decision, only a reasonable one considering the level of tensions we each had to go through with a minimum amount of time. It's a miracle we are all alive. Once it's made my life wasn't hard anymore, I only wished I manned up before but I guess this is the right time.
The right time for everything.
"I have to go somewhere important before it, I wish to see Annabeth '', I told Lana. " She is in her room I guess so very drunk I assume ", she told me. " It's alright as long as she can talk there is not going to be any problem. When I knocked on her door she was lying on the bed with her hands on her face. "Annabeth, are you ok"?, I asked her. She removed her hands and looked at me. " Besides being heavily drunk. I'm ok", she replied.
"I never saw you party this hard before", I commented. " It's not much of a party anymore after your secretary took her away", she slurred. "She was heavily drunk while dancing on the pole. I didn't want her to break her head", I told her. She didn't say anything so I continued. " Why did you breakup, with Reed?", I asked her. "Many things for not being Alpha, not fighting for me and most of all leaving me", she said her voice broke down. I went up to her and hugged her. She cried and I held her. " Why did you ask "?, she asked in-between her cries. " Because I wanted to know if you are happy as you claim to be ", I told her. " And", she asked.
"I got my answer", I told her. She nodded her head half asleep. I put her gently on her bed. I walked towards my car and got in and sped away to the night and tomorrow was my wedding. When I passed the reservation and reached the roads I pressed for more speed. Now the weight has lifted off my shoulder I was more happy and content.
When I reached the small home and saw the light I was glad. Frankly, I didn't think to call before popping up all of a sudden. I went to the door and knocked slowly. It opened slowly and I met with a long lost brother.
" Hello Reed", I greeted him. "What a surprise welcome home", he invited me. I went inside the house and it was cosy and he was alone. "So you live here in exile. Do you talk to your folks?", I asked him. " Yes, I call them occasionally and allow me to congratulate you for your upcoming wedding", his voice breaking with emotion.
"Do you mean that brother? Is your mate only worth your compliments or a happy life with you?", I asked him. He was spellbound. " Do you love her?", I asked him. "More than my life", he answered. "Then do that idiot instead of hiding away". His eyes were misty, he bowed to me and said," I only moved away because I thought she didn't love me". I raised my eyebrow so he said, "I now know she is my salvation. I was an idiot for trying to change her,". "I think we should go now", I told him. He readily agreed.
This is our last chance to be happy. The past won't determine our future anymore. Our past is now forgotten. I only wished to think of our future together.
