HUNT BY THE BAD SEED
CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT
UNKNOWN POV
The look on his face was priceless when he saw me. He wasn't expecting to see me in a big gathering and more to his surprise, a friend to the person he wants to sign a deal with.
"So, tell me Mr Malcom, what made Mr Russell angry to that extent when you came? Could it be you both are enemies or what's going on?" Mr Hopkins asked, which made me chuckle.
"It's not that sort of thing. He just hates my guts, that's all. What could an easy going man like me possibly do to him?"
"But why do I feel there's something you're not telling us? I find it strange seeing Mr Russell that way. He has never shown that side of him to everyone I've asked about except to you which is a first." Mr Hopkins added, with knitted brows.
"Come on, Mr Hopkins, you can't possibly allow those negative thoughts to fill your head up."
"Oh... okay. So, where were we?"
I don't know why he's really curious to find out what's the relationship I once shared with his client but sooner or later, he will know because I've got a plan to execute at the party.
Let's see for how long the b**** can withstand me. I want everyone to know the monster he is and I'll make him show it in the presence of all guests at the party.
SARAH'S POV
"You can take a look at yourself in the mirror now, ma'am." The makeup artist said.
"Wow! I can't believe this! I look so different." I uttered in excitement.
"I'll take my leave now, ma'am."
"Yeah, sure. Thanks once again."
"You're welcome ma'am." She beamed me a smile before exiting the suite along with her two female escorts.
I can't imagine looking this beautiful for a single moment of my life.
It was already time for the gala and I don't know if Mr Russell was going to come pick me up or if I'd have to go to him. He never mentioned coming to pick me up, which means I've to go and meet him in his suite.
I walked over to the sofa to put on my shoes when a knock came on the door.
"Yes, come in." I gestured as it turned out to be Mr Russell all dressed in a white suit and a black pants with his hair gelled and styled to the back.
He looked extremely handsome like one of those Greek gods that are mentioned in books. I didn't know I was staring at him for too long until his words jolted me back.
"Enough with the looks, are you ready?"
"Oh... yeah. I just need to put on these heels but I find it hard to fix on." I answered, trying to make the heels fit in my legs.
"We don't have much time. Let me help you." He said suddenly and walked over to help me with the shoe.
I was astonished when he went on one knee and asked me to pull out my leg, before slowly helping me get in the shoe and hooking the heel clip.
"Shall we? You need to put in your best performance. Once the contract is finalized, we'll leave for the States tomorrow morning." He stated and got on his feet before offering me his hand which I grabbed.
"I'll try my best and try to be natural."
"Don't say too much. I'll do most of the talking. All you have to do is follow my lead."
"Okay sir."
"Make sure you don't address me that way in their presence."
"Okay." I nodded in response before we both locked hands together and walked out of the room.
I was feeling butterflies dancing in my stomach as well as my heart racing beyond control. Having him this close and inhaling his strong cologne was driving me crazy which is the first time I'm experiencing such feelings.
After some moments, we arrived at the gala which was so outstanding and perfect. Everywhere was looking so beautiful and adorable which I couldn't take all my time to praise.
I knew I needed to act like a classic lady in the presence of everyone since the gala was for elites and billionaires across countries.
"I want you to meet someone." He whispered to me.
"Is he the man you were talking about?" I inquired in a whisper.
"Yes. That's him over there coming in our direction." He replied, as I saw the man holding a big grin on his face as he approached us.
"Finally! You're here! I've been dying to meet you, Miss..." The old man uttered with a short pause to catch my name.
"Sarah. Sarah Weston." I responded with a warm smile.
"You're indeed beautiful as Mr Russell had described. It's such a great honor to meet you. I'm Tom Hopkins." He smiled, holding out a hand to me which I accepted and only for him to place a kiss at the back of palm.
"Shall we discuss the contract now, Mr Hopkins?" Mr Russell uttered suddenly as the old man flushed his set of yellowish teeth.
"Of course. Let's go." He responded, gesturing us out of the party.
**
I was beyond happy when the contract deal got finalized and both parties signed the contract with a good negotiation.
"You can head back to your suite since everything is over." Mr Russell announced, the moment we walked out of the room where the negotiation took place.
"Okay." I replied and was about parting ways with him when the words of a man made me stop.
"Wouldn't it be so rude to send her back to the room without introducing me to her?" The man added, which made me twirl to see a middle aged man dressed in an expensive suit.
"You don't deserve to know anything so stay out of my business." Mr Russell replied with gritted teeth.
It seems that Mr Russell doesn't like the man one bit but who is he and what must he have done to make Mr Russell this angry?
"I'm sure you're wondering who I am, darling? Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ryan Malcom, your boyfriend's late wife's father-in-law." He introduced, with a cruel smile at the corner of his lips.
"Listen up, ladies and gentlemen. I've an announcement to make mostly to Mr Russell." He uttered loudly as all the guests' attention fell on us including Mr Hopkins.
What is he trying to do? I hope he isn't going to create a problem that will lead to Mr Russell showing his anger.
"There's something you all should know. As we all know, this celebration is mainly for Mr Russell here who happens to be my late step daughter's husband. But do you all know, he had never liked me from the very beginning and prohibited me from seeing my step daughter after marriage as well as his son, my grandchild." He announced as most of the guests gasped in shock and disbelief.
I knew Mr Russell was already boiling from inside and was trying to control himself from reacting and moreover, I didn't believe anything the man had said. I believe there was a reason why Mr Russell had done that which is only known to him.
I summoned lots of courage and held Mr Russell's hand and moved closer to him and whispered in his ear.
"Let it go, please. You don't have to react or do anything. He's only trying to get your attention so you can show your anger in the presence of the guests."
We stayed that way for a while before he let go of my hand and walked out of the party.
I can't believe his own father-in-law could do such a thing just to make him angry. I don't want to know what happened between them but I could tell the man has only bad intentions towards Mr Russell.
I just hope Mr Russell doesn't hurt himself for this great humiliation his father-in-law has caused.
