THE BITTER TRUTH
CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT
SARAH'S POV
"Don't you think Jay is acting totally different towards you?" Aunt asked, balancing the pillow over my head and pulled the duvet over my body.
“Yes aunt but he's only showing concern."
“I doubt if that's all, Sarah. I've never seen him act that way towards a woman in the last five years. I've a feeling he's in love with you but isn't aware of it or he's not ready to accept his feelings yet."
"But how are you going to know if he's really in love with me?" I asked, curiously.
"I'll put him to some test and if he passes all of it, then it shows he's definitely in love with you and doesn't want to accept the truth."
“But, aunt…"
“No buts, Sarah. I know you're in love with him all along but I didn't want to say anything to you first. I thought you were going to open up to me but I understand how shy you can be at times.”
“I'm sorry aunt."
“For what, my dear. Is it for falling in love with Jay or for not telling me about it? Oh please, it's actually good to see you having feelings for a man for the first time." She uttered, with a smile.
Mr Russell isn't actually the first man I'm in love with. I once fell in love with an unknown man I saved back in New York. I couldn't see his face but I could tell he was a handsome man and funny enough his voice sounds like Mr Russell which is normal for different people to sound the same.
I wish I could see the man again because he happened to be my first love.
“Thanks aunt but what kind of test are you going to put him to?"
“Don't worry darling. You'll get to see it with your own eyes." She smirked.
I cant believe aunt is willing to find out if Mr Russell is in love with me but what if it turned out he's only being concerned for sustaining the bullet shot?
I know I'm not his ideal type of woman but I can try my best to be one for him if he can accept me to be there for Max. I don't think I can do without him. He has become such a big part of my life that I don't want to get separated from him in any way.
I feel selfish for saying all these but I can't help it because I'm head over heels in love with both father and son. I love Max as a son and his father as a man.
JAYDEN'S POV
I was able to reconcile with the old friend who promised to help me find who was behind the attack and as for Sarah, I still don't have an answer to the question, aunt asked earlier.
Am I really in love with her and when did it all start? I need to pull back a bit and try to redeem myself back to my normal self before I lose to a woman.
But even if I try to stay away from her, a strange force keeps pulling towards her and sometimes, I feel I've been around her before but I don't know where and how.
I need to seek someone's help and I think I know who it can be. I pulled out my phone from my pants and dialed the number of the one person who can help me out.
“Hello Godfather. Can I come over to the mansion? I've got something on my mind and I need someone to discuss it with. Are you free now?"
“Yeah, sure, my boy. You can come over. How's Max's nanny's health?" He responded from the other end.
“She's out of danger."
“I'm glad to hear that. Is she still in the hospital?"
“No, godfather. She's back in the mansion. I had the doctor make arrangements to further her treatment here so the police won't get involved."
“You don't have to stress yourself, son. I'll come over instead. I want to meet her.” He insisted.
“Okay godfather. See you soon." I replied and dropped the call.
I'll talk to him about how I'm feeling towards Sarah man to man and seek his advice on what to do.
**
"David!" Aunt called out, godfather's name, the moment we stepped inside the mansion.
“Kathy, how have you been?"
“I've been doing well. How have you been as well? It's so good to see after all these while." She uttered, embracing him.
"Me too, Kathy. You're always getting younger, each time I see."
“Come on, David. Stop joking around, already." She chuckled, as they both pulled away.
“You haven't changed a single bit, Kathy."
“Really? What brought you here today unexpectedly?”
“Oh I came to see Max's nanny. What's her name again?"
“You mean Sarah?" She answered, giving me a strange look, "How did you know about her?"
“I was with Jay when Henry came to inform him what had happened."
“She's really a brave girl, I must say." He added.
“She is also a sweet loving girl with a big heart and beautiful as well."
“Really? I can't wait to meet her."
“You will of course. Jay can show you to her room. It's so nice to see you, David. I've missed you a lot."
“I missed you more, Kathy. I'll schedule a day for us to discuss old time matters together."
“That would be so great, David." She replied as they both kept staring at each other.
I forget that these two were once high school lovers who were so much in love and till this moment they still love one another.
“Uh.. Godfather, can we proceed since you both are done exchanging pleasantries?" I uttered, breaking the silence between them.
“Yes, sure. I'll see you later, Kathy."
“Okay, David."
We got to Sarah's bedroom and found her playing with Max who rushed to his grandfather's arm when he walked in.
“How are you, my little boy?"
“I'm fine, grandpa."
“That's good to hear. I miss you, my little boy."
“Me too, grandpa."
“How are you feeling, child?" He asked Sarah, who was trying to get up, "Don't get up, dear. You still haven't healed. I'm sorry such a thing had to happen to you."
“I'm much better sir. There's nothing to feel bad about." She replied, while I helped him to sit right next to her bed.
“You're indeed beautiful as Kathy had mentioned. I'm David Pam, Jayden's godfather." He introduced himself.
**
"I'll come see you another time, dear." Godfather said to Sarah, while I helped him get up from the seat.
“Thank you sir."
“Get some rest, okay?"
“Okay sir." She answered, while godfather and I walked out of the room.
We were already halfway to my bedroom when he stopped suddenly which made me wonder if he forgot something.
“What's wrong, godfather? Did you forget something back there?”
“No, Jay but I think I know what you want to discuss with me.”
“You do?" I asked, a bit surprised.
Did he notice how I kept stealing glances at her when they both were talking about random stuff? No, that's not possible. He can't possibly notice that.
“Sarah is indeed a decent girl and will make a good mother to Max. You want my honest answer about your feelings towards her?
“What are you saying, godfather? I don't have any plans of accepting any woman in my life. I'm just having mixed feelings about her."
“She's the one, my boy. It'll be best if you embrace your feelings and accept her before it gets late. It's not too late to make the decision now. I think I'll be leaving now." He smiled and strolled away leaving me in confusion.
Why are they saying all these to me, now? Why isn't anyone thinking about Amanda who still remains in my heart? I can't be in love. It's not possible. I think the feelings I'm having towards Sarah are nothing but lust and that's it.
