Chapter 52

Scarlett’s POV

I got home and for the first time in what seemed like a lifetime I felt like I could rest and actually enjoy what was left of my holiday even though I had a week and a half left before school starts up again I felt elated I could finally catch up on my holiday reading and be ready for when school starts up again. I looked around expecting mom to pop up from somewhere then I realised that she was probably at the ceremony, I took a shower got my books and settled in on the couch with a steaming cup of hot chocolate, I had my economics, accounting and entrepreneurship books all laid out before me and I felt so happy to finally be myself again, I dived in, page after page my life was renewed, chapter after chapter the Scarlett I thought was lost forever was returned, my dreams became real again, the strain and worry about being Luna has gone and I can finally concentrate on me. I can’t believe it’s been a week and a half since I came home but it has felt like a lifetime.

“How can so much happen in such a short space of time?” I thought to myself, and I shook it off,

“no distractions, like Cal Newport says it’s time for deep work” everything around me faded away as I sunk deeper and deeper into my studies.

“Scarlett…Scarlett honey wake up” I heard my mother’s faint voice calling me from my deep sleep.

“What time is it” I asked rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

“It’s almost eleven pm, I see you’ve been hard at work” she said pointing at my books.

“Yeah, I had a lot to catch up on and for some reason I thought I could do it all in one day, I must have passed out trying to do the impossible” I said massaging the twinge in my neck from sleeping on the couch.

“You must be hungry, here I brought you food from the banquette” she must have put the food on a plate before she woke me, I took the plate and started eating.

“Speaking of the banquette how is the Luna doing?” I asked realising that I left Aiden at a time when he needed me the most.

“He didn’t act like he needed you though” my wolf said in a snarky way.

“Why else would our bond have broken, typical Alpha, they just use you and then toss you aside like…”

“That’s enough” I snapped back at her

“he is going through a lot right now” I said

“I know, but after everything he said and everything he promised us why was it so easy for him to sever our bond” my wolf said starting to whimper, making me feel her pain.

“I don’t think it was easy” I said allowing her to feel her pain,

“I’m not sure why I’m not in pain shouldn’t I be devastated over losing my mate?”

“Scar did you hear what I said?” Mom said bringing me back to reality

“Huh, sorry I spaced for a second”

“Are you okay?” I nodded in response,

“Okay if you say so” she said with a quizzical look on her face.

“Why are you home so late anyway?” I asked trying to avoid a long conversation about what happened between Aiden and I,

“Well as I was saying after the Luna collapsed and you took control, that was badass by the way” she said the look of pride in her eyes made me blush

“The Sentry is the one that took control not me, anyway, tell me about the Luna” she smiled and continued

“The Alpha came to the hall and told us the Luna was fine, and that the days event must have drained her anyway it seems she will make a full recovery” I breathed a sigh of relieve

“I’m glad” I said feeling relieved enough to take another bite

“I must say being Alpha really suites him, he is really articulate and the way he took charge of the situation and addressed everyone it really showed that he was meant to be an Alpha”

“What do you mean?” I asked with a mouth full of food

“Aiden, he makes a good Alpha”

I coughed chocking on my food

“What?” I asked after managing to swallow with a look of shock in my face

“Oh yeah, sorry I forgot that you were not there, the ceremony went on, the Luna wasn’t there of course, but I’m curious as to why you weren’t there? I mean one minute you are in his arms and the next you have completely disappeared, did something happen?” I nodded.

“It’s a long story I can’t get into that now, I’m tired, I’m going to bed, goodnight mom” I put my plate on the table still full of food

“You know you can tell me anything right?” I nodded in response

“See you in the morning” I said kissing her on the forehead and heading to my room.

I laid in the dark the heat overpowering me, and I couldn’t sleep, first I kicked my blanket off, that wasn’t enough, I took my pyjamas off, and I was left with my underwear I opened the window and the cool breeze of the night hit me and I welcomed it with a sigh of relief, I laid face up with my arms spread across the bed and finally I felt myself drifting off to sleep.

“You are so sexy Scar” I heard Aiden's voice in my ear, his hands brushing my face I slowly opened my eyes still half asleep.

“I should have never given up on you, please forgive me” I nodded and slowly started to drift off to sleep, his hand started up my thigh, his lips brushed against mine, my body started getting hot again and my sleep slowly drifted away, his hand reached my centre and my eyes popped open I was wide awake now,

“Aiden what are you doing my mother is in the next room” I said with as much strength as I could master which wasn’t much, I was surprised at how little strength I had to resist him.
